37mm HE Splash Damage Increase

well, i noticed this a long time ago and i also saw other players talking about it:

in my opinion the splash damage of 37mm HE shells is pretty low (even lower then that of a grenade). you basically need to hit the ground in a radius of about 1.5 metres next to your target. this is pretty annoying when operating a stuart or greyhound. i can say that most of the kills those things do are done with the mgs.

an example is a game i had yesterday: it was lüttich, i was in the (center) village, a stuart saw me and came close, all i had to do was ducking behind a fence. the stuart then tried to kill me by hitting a wall that was about 3 metres away with HE-Shells to no effect, after that it hit the ground (also close to me) but couldnt do anything either and then had to drive away.

im not sure how realistic that is but it sure looks ridicolous sometimes, so my suggestion is to increase the splash damage of 37mm guns (especially on stuart and greyhound) to make their main guns at least a bit usefull. considering they get 1 shot anyways, and if its only a minor increase i think balance wont be thrown over.

your opinion?

The 37mm HE DID in fact, have less splash damage potential, than a simple hand grenade. That is why it was rarely used, it was useless.

This has been discussed before. The 37 mm HE shell had very little explosive filler. A basic hand grenade had much more explosives in it.

37 mm: 40g
M24 Stick grenade: 170g

problem is with the stuart at normandy that it does not have the canister shot, cause it was bugged.
So the stuarts just have the MGs and those silly HE. I hope that the next patch will give it the canister shot back.

yeah, well at least that would make the main gun a bit usefull and not just decoration :P

aparantly , the 37 fired around 120 pellets, in FH2 they fire 14  i think? at least 50 per shot would make a bigger pattern with more chanses of hiting something.

Yep. +- 120 pellets. had a muzzle velocity of 788 m/S

The canister in FH2 appears to fire 14 .50cal ammo (except the 2.3 beta M5A1 which fired 14 37mmAPC :o).  Would be quite fun I think with 50 .30cal projectiles with a reasonable spread.

yep, but ofcourse with a range. is that possible?

these things could easily kill stuff at 100 meters though

well, bf2 engine allows bullets to loose power over distance, not to mention the drop and evrything else.

Well, change the explosion animation at least. Its too BF2 vanilla. The Panzer II got its changed nicely.

I think 37mm explosions, as well that for armored cards like the marmon herrington need to be updated. It doesn't agree with the current graphics of the game.

2.0, sure - But not 2.3 - and certainly NOT 2.4
