Title: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: DannyNickelov on 31-10-2010, 10:10:38
''It's an illusion that the Zone is under lock and key, and the army has all the ways in and out sealed and all that bullshit. Think about it, these days unique items found only in the zone can be found all over the world, and your stalker buddies never had a shortage of canned meat, vodka, ammo or equipment. Somebody's gotta be responsible for that, right?'' - Docent Suslov

The Zone of Alienation, or simply "The Zone," is the 30 km wide area of exclusion that was set up around the Chernobyl NPP following the 1986 disaster and perverted by the second Chernobyl disaster in 2006.

''The Zone''

The Zone of Alienation stretches between the borders of the Ukraine and Belarus, and is kept protected by the Ukrainian authorities. Due to the radical decrease in human presence and activity, wildlife has flourished in the Zone and the area is often described as having been "reclaimed by nature". Following the 2006 disaster, animals and plants have been grotesquely mutated and deadly anomalies abound.

Wildlife roams freely in the remains of the former USSR.

Supposedly, the area is kept under lockdown by the military. However, the prospect of lucrative looting and treasure hunting has led a large number of opportunists known as Stalkers to jump fence into The Zone itself. These people are either operating for themselves, or in factions. Among the more notable groups are Duty, Freedom and the Ecologists.

Research is constantly ongoing to find out the nature and origin of The Zone, as well as a means to counter it. There are many different beliefs concerning the truth of, and reasonable response to, The Zone. For example, Duty members are attempting to "fight the Zone" while Freedom believes that the entire area is a gift to mankind and should be shared equally by all of humanity. During the course of the games, some characters express concern that the Zone might be growing and increasing its influence on the world; which eventually turns out to be the case.

''Origin''

The Zone of Alienation, and the many psi-emitting facilities (such as the Brain Scorcher), were set up as a means to protect the activities of the C-Consciousness from outside interference. As the people who make up the C-Consciousness, and the equipment with which they operate, are located within the city of Pripyat, the Chernobyl NPP, and very likely the town of Limansk, the dangerous and mysterious Zone was acting as a barrier all around the core of the C-Consciousness project.

So... GSC is working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and maybe patches for Call of Pripyat.

Whadda you think of S.T.A.L.KE.R.?

SoC is one of the best games I've ever played. I also liked CoP a lot but CS wasnt nowhere near as good as the two others, but still enjoyable.

I have not yet finished SoC and I have also bought CoP.

If you like the games, I would suggest you to read the novella Roadside Picnic by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky. That is, of course, the story that Stalker is based on.

I play SoC with Complete 2009 mod and it adds so much to the game in graphical and sound department without changing the game mechanics. It also enables freeplay if one finishes the game correct way. I cant think of many games which had the athmosphere that sucked me in totally. The feeling of being there in a world that lives around you is great and even thought I have finished SoC, I still love to go around for hunts occassionally. I liked the story too.

Call of Pripyat was a great game and I was completely into it from start to end. But it didnt appeal to me as much as SoC did. Also I didnt really fancy having only three areas, altho Pripyat was amazingly good and felt extremely lonely while strolling  the streets, only to see a humanlike figure stare at me from the other end of the street and then disappear around the corner. Things like that are spooky and fun!

Clear Sky is a nice game aswell and it has a lot of things original SoC didnt but all in all it felt just out of place to play it AFTER completing SoC since it is a prequel to the original game.

Now I only hope the project name "S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2" wont suck and wont fall into the problems many multiplatform games do. I read the game is a sequel to Call of Pripyat, so I expect to see Major Degtyarev again, but I hope it wont be the first game to not have Strelok, which seems likely considering Strelok managed to finally leave the zone in the end of CoP (proper ending).

What I also hope is a Stalker MMO. Take the map from SoC & CS and stick in the areas from CoP, open up the world so you can travel everywhere, join factions of your choosing, modify your weapons and gear, have professions and so on. This would be an amazing opportunity for MMO-gaming. I personally find a lot of potential to it.

Nice review, Flippy.

'S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2' is based on better multiplayer then SoC, CS and CoP. I read it on a Russian 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.' site.

Indeed. Multiplayer isn't that great in S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it's ugly. I had a fail in SoC so i have to start over with SoC.

SoC is the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. out there, like Flippy said, it gives the player an eerie feeling, more then in CS or CoP, But CoP is a little bit scary too, Pripyat and some underground tunnels etc, Brrr, i love those feelings in games, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is the best with those!

I only played SoC but couldn't finish it. Somehow near the end I got into highly radiated part of that level (after the big assault) with nothing on me to resist that much radiation and I couldn't go back anymore because of the game's script so I just kept dying. Since I have to do it all over again I had to have a bit of a break from the game, but now that I'm a little bit more experienced with this type of game (after playing through Fallout 3 2 times in a row) I'm soooo looking forward to beginning STALKER al over again, mods and all.

You 2? I always enjoy S.T.A.L.K.E.R. when i didn't played it for months. I also had to begin over, i was at the Brain Scorcher and then somewhere in Pripyat where a sniper with a GAUSS rifle is shooting at you, there, somewhere with high radiation level, i died.

2 days ago, i was at 1000 Rads bar, when i had a side-mission called: Find the family weapon. You need to load a map to find that weapon, it is at a Merc base. At that time the scientists and the Merrcs were in fight and you need to help the scientists. Ih elped them and found the weapon. So i wanted to return the weapon to that giuy in the bar. So i loaded the map, and then the message : Task Failed: Meet Krugov.

Damn what a waste...

Looking forward to start over ;D

And the '2009 Mod' Torondor was talking about is the BEST S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mod out there, but you need a goddawn good computer to play it.

( Sorry for very bad English )

Oh and Flippy, do you play SoC over steam? I just downloaded the complete 2009 mod, too and wondered if it will work with steam

But S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is the best, the atmosphere, the feeling you're not alone, the mysteries of the zone... Magnificentos!

Like Thorondor said, mods do work with SoC/CS/COP over Steam too. I myself play Steam SoC with Complete 2009 mod enabled, so does Thorondor afaik. Nothing too special to do either if I remember right. Just install the files and follow readme instructions.

Nono. I played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl when it was released on an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Single Cored), 2 Gigs of RAM and a Geforce 6800.

There are so many video options, you can play the game even on weakest computers. Most important is to select the lighting. You can choose between static lighting (DirectX7-based) dynamic lighting of objects only (DirectX8) or complete dynamic lighting(DirectX9).

Static lighting sux and suits for a Geforce FX 5700, the other settings require better video cards.

Evenmore the density of grass is pretty scaleable, as much as view distance, object detail, shadow quality and both AA and AF.

So, honestly, if you can play FH2 at medium settings, you can play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl at medium settings as well.

Don't tell me my medium settings of those days look that bad:

But anyway, does anyone know a little more news or details about 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2'? I read it on a Russian site, a site with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. skins for Counter-Strike: Source. There are also some fake trailers on YT.

Only the Stalker wikia, pretty much.

I once compiled an excel file containing all weapons, suits and artifacts and their attributes, made is super easy to pick out good things from bad things. Sadly I lost the file.

How did you like X18? I thought it was the scariest bit of the whole game. Let's redirect the convo to Stalker thread.

I think X18 is in Dark Valley, the lab that has a shitload of Poltergeists and a few Snorks and Burners, X16 is Yantar, lovely place full of Snorks, Zombies, Controller, moar snorks, pseudogiant <333

And i think X19 or osmething its actually the Brain Scorcher, thaths where im heading today. I'll wait before it gets dark to move in, damn monoliths can see me from anywhere

I also finished original SoC.Must try CS and CoP.

Another great eastern game is Necrovision.

God noes, i hope STALKER 2 gets some nice, realistic Coop for MP.

It'll be awesome, something like L4D or a Massive Multiplayer with servers up to 100 People in it, a big ass map (Something like Lost Alpha's map), moar items, moar mutant spawns, moar NPCs in different campfires, not always in the same and a super realistic weather system, with atleast, Winter and Summer!

Coop would just kick ass!

Coop would indeed be awesome. But I'd also love a Stalker MMO. Imagine having the Zone ran by players belonging to different factions, fighting over territories in order to reach your faction goals. I'd fap for that.

Well afaik there is "Coop" in SoC, but not Over MP D:

Afaik, again, Oblivion Lost enables NPCs to follow you (Pretty much like in CoP, when you get a group of Stalkers to follow you to Pripyat) but i dont know if its buggy or not (heard it was), what i know, is that Supermod is doing this thing again in their 2.5 Version, that'll be hopefully, relased soon. Cant check out now, Modb doesnt let me log in or view mods in their Website so im Stuck.

Tried Oblivion Lost yesterday, after beating the Game in Complete, i will beat the game again in OL, this time with Chimeras thingies, Dwarfs and new shit.

The thing i LOVE are the weapons. They're lovely.

First mission and the Wolf dude gave me a Arisaka Carabine o_O, then i found a AKM, later i killed a bandit and the boy had a PPSH-41 O_O, then i found the first trader sells...

Lewis, BAR, Thompson, StG44, Mosin Nagant, Mosin Nagant Sniper, K98, SKS, Arisaka these weapons to kill rare mutants and stupid monoliths assholes! woo

And i know the barman sells a PPD-40 :O

I bought the StG44 straight, sadly i dont like its animations and sounds, so its not worth but i just have it for the lulz.

Blowouts or Emissions are great in this Mod, after these emissions are over, you get insta pwned by Controllers, Zombies and sometimes Izlom dudes. Its just awesome. I had one night with some Duty guys in Army Warehouses, we had a blowout, we returned to the campfire and we were attacked by a controller and a few zombies. Later on, the surviving Dutys went towards the abandonned village and i got attacked by something i couldnt even see, it was 03:00 AM (Worst time to go out for loot) and that thing killed me ;__;

Couldnt kill it with mah ppsh!1

Sure, if you have a good PC you can run it well. It says it requires like 4GB of RAM wich i really dont believe its true. Fraps tells me it runs at 20-23FPS, Complete runs around 30-35FPS and Clar Sky with that Dynamic Lighting thingy, at 20FPS.

I dont trust Fraps, i can see almost no difference between the FPS in Complete or Oblivion Lost.

OL main DL links seem to be down, and noone is doing nothing to get them back up, i wanted to DL it like a week ago, JDownloader loeaded them or something but they suddenly stopped, since then i still get the File Server Busy thingy. I'll give you this links

I must tell you, Complete is 100% more stable than OL, in my PC it crashes often and Complete (In +100 Playing Hours with it) crashed around 4 Times or something. OL has like 15 by now and i just finished the Agroprom Underground Mission.

Yes Odball, its some sort of Freeplay game. Survival actually, finding food, ammo or anti-radioactive drugs and stuff like that, finding a safe place to spend a night or sleep. Its an awesome game because theres just a few, Free Roam, Survival games and the few you can see are just not that free roam (excluding Fallout) and i believe noone of them is set in modern times with actual weapons and stuff.

I think CoP is more "dynamic" than Shadow of Chernobyl, i mean in Call of Pripyat you have people walking around and mutants moving from place to place, not standing idle like it happens in SoC.

----

I was quite dissapointed with SoC's Pripyat, its too small and theres enemies everywhere!, in the center you have Monolith's HQ, South some Monoliths and a few Loners, North some Pseudogiants and more Monoliths.. i will wait for CoP's Complete and see the so called Pripyat city...

Imagine some kind of free roam on a Battlefield map. Which means you can lurk enemies or attack them from behind. Several maps are connected with transitions to represent a complete area. You have a main storyline leading you through the levels. Apart from the main story which is rather easy to follow/solve there are side missions not necessarily to be solved that grant extra money or objects. Sometimes you can choose between good and evil, for example when it comes to working with bandits, and even in between by joining factions with different alignments, goals and inner organization structure.

Mah,Kar 98 and Mosin Nagant are kinda crappy, because they set the handling of these guns to zero,so you turn slowly with it,but K 98 haves a great firepower.
Infortunately,Mosin Nagant is weak, that makes no sense at all, since both guns have similar caliber.

Bar is shitty as well,it should a lot stronger. The P-38 otherwise is pretty strong,as the Broning Hi Power is.

This mod I have installed makes the player as vulnerable as the enemies. It´s life or death. No armor can save you.

Yeah i noticed that. I found some badass soldiers in Cordon, quick save and i attacked them with a stolen Sniper SIG SG550, got one of them and i made a little mistake, i just ran towards a rock to save some ammo, and the Soldier with the Kriss thingy just pwned me.

I just had an awesome attack on Freedom base. Blowout and then, Zombies and a Controller came rushing from the main entrance (And the only one :D). Freedom guys went MAD, Skinflint the gun dealer (Sells SCARS and probably a Steyr Aug later, with many other NATO guns) died in his spot, the first guards were insta pwned, i ran towards the barracks when the Freedom leader, Lukash came out from the building with his Bodyguard, a dude with a Exoesqueleton in a good move, trying to keep the controller out of the main building, hell i just seen these two guys rushing and shooting the controller and zombies... fap.

I got psiattacked by that controller and got surrounded by 3 Zombies, no big deal for me and my M16A2 bro!, killed two zombies, saved a Freedom dude from death then killed the Controller with a USP .45 Hydroshock Rounds.

Then i alt tabbed the game and fapfapfapfapfapfapfaped and im writing this., now i'll load a save because they killed the gun dealer ;___;

I was playing with a friend over Skype and he told me the K98 is awesome, almost no deviation at all and you can buy a Scope for it. But i'll make a stash with all the WW2 weapons you can get. i mean ALL

No. I did all the way into Garbage. Did all possible Cordon sidequests from Sido and all the stalkers that give you sidequests... Not a single non-vanilla weapon. NONE! Even Sido sold only the regular guns, sawn-off shotguns, makarov pistols and a random AKSU...

Weird, my first weapon was that Arisaka Carabine D:

I will get Super mod pack 2.5 when its out, uses Oblivion Lost 2.2 as their base and adds alot of new stuff like the Atlas spawn mod, like the Wish Granter in Complete Clear Sky :D

What i dont like of LA is that they're using Vanilla Sounds and some Vanilla textures, after playing Complete, well, it'll feel weird :(

Ok I play this game since it's out. I played CS and CoP too, CoP got a BIG ambiance too, I love the huge map like the swamp, you just turn your gamma for a scary night and it's really scary.

One time I was with some random stalker at night near fire. I was too scare to go back to the boat, so I said me to spend the night with them. 2 mins after a Chimera jumped out of the darkness in the middle of the camp starting to kill everybody, I freaking run to the boat that night  :D

But I mainly play SoC cause of the REDUX MOD.

YOU need v1.0001 or 1.0003, and then downlaod the last version on filefront.

The mod aim for realism and survival, ammo are rare and mutants are really dangerous. IT'S REALLY scarier and you watch for your life, really.

Don't forget to set difficulty to MASTER and save often.

Hmm... you got me interested. How is the SoC Complete 09 mod compared to normal Call of Pripyat for example, I mean does it really bring the game to todays standards and many new things. Does it have anything that CoP doesn't have?

I might reinstall SoC and download that mod but if it's no better than CoP I don't see too many reasons.

Right now there is no CoP Complete. Only CS and SoC Complete's. What Complete mod does is basically:

- Improve graphics in the forms of HD graphics, light settings, skyboxes and background images
- Fixes a ton of bugs from vanilla game
- Adds possibility to sleep (Sleeping Bag) and repair your items with either a pickable tool kit or at some traders
- Improves sounds and therefore makes the game more immersive as the ambience becomes awesome
- Tens and tens of new campfire songs (most important add! :p)
- Free roam mode if SoC is finished properly. Freeplay in CS if you do a certain trick, which unfortunately leaves out some annoying little bugs, therefore not entirely worth it.
- The Wish Granter options, which allow you to give you weapons, suits, artifacts, move you to specific locations in the Zone (only use this once you've finished the game IF you want to, not necessary)
- Does not alter the overall gameplay or story, only improves the overall experience

-

CoP will get it's own Complete mod hopefully soon.

If you liked or generally like Shadow of Chernobyl / Clear Sky as vanilla, then Complete mod is definitely for you since it only makes it more immersive and improves the looks. And add the fact that if you finish the game in the one and only right way, then you will be allowed to play freeplay, which is imho the best bit of SoC Complete. Like I said about CS's freeplay, it leaves a bit desired due to bugs thats caused if you decide to "tinker" yourself the freeplay with Complete 09. When I finished CS with Complete 09, I didnt stay around for freeplay since SoC is far more appealing to me.

Cant wait for Call of Pripyat Complete. It looks very good as expected and hopefully its not going to take too long to be released. :)

A friend of mine logged in Modb this morning and saw that Complete CoP had been Released, like Complete Call of Pripyat Beta, but now the Download is gone >:

I've got modwatch on that, so I'll know when its released. :)

Games I had last evening were so nice. I thought I'd go for a hunting trip to the center of the Zone and journeyed through Red Forest and to my surprise there were a lot of new monolith goons around even thought when I played through the game I had wiped out pretty much everyone. So naturally I waited at Bar, packed stuff that I thought I'd need for this journey and when the morning came, I dashed out to army warehouses and into the Red Forest. But like I said, there were a lot of monolith stalkers around so I had to fight my way through and once I reached the hillside road that leads to Pripyat... I had ran out of anti-radiation meds, I was low on ammo and I had only a couple of bottles of vodka. I decided to cancel my trip and made it safely back to Rostok. Only mistake I did was to run through the forest parts itself, which was naturally filled with dogs, pseudodogs, snorks, zombies and couple of bloodsuckers... and lets not forget theres parts in which the radiation levels rises up so high and not having meds with you is helluva bad.

I managed to get to the warehouses and tried to find some drugs from some stashes and tried to buy them off from Freedom members but barely anyone had them. Then finally one of the Loners at the camp next to Bloodsucker village had some drugs and I could stab myself with some of those. I felt like a junkie.

Red forest is kinda Annoying.

When you get the Disable the Brain Scorcher task, and you fight against half of the Monolith faction, you cant just take cover!

Every vehicle is heavily contaminated, unless you bring 30 Antirads with you, and a good SEVA suit with Auto Injection system, then you're a dead man.

Hell, i wanted to go look for the F2000 at the Sarcophagus, but when i reached the Railways to the South, i found i just had 3 Antirads. I said fuck it and walked inside the Sarcophagus, with the WG still talking "Didi camniev!", made it to the reactor with a single Antirad, no FN2000, nowhere to be found, ran out of Antirads, i had to use Canned foot to heal myself.

Hell, i finished the game twice, first time i didnt find the FN2000 and the second time, loaded a save in the Secret Lab (Wich is, for some reason, not contaminated at all :/) just for a FN2000, and then the NeverEndingSuperBoring outside Mission, wich seems to be kinda pointless.

Meh, Installed COP and Crashes as soon as it opens the game, hell, it doesnt even come up with a black screen, just dies in there. No apparent reason.

Must be this fucking Windows 7 ;____;

"Lost World Requital" is a work-in-progress mod which, to my understanding, will include all areas from all three Stalker games under one mod and also areas from old builds thats been scrapped by the developers of the games and also their self-made areas are added into the Zone. Unfortunately all the info I find is in russian, but comments on various youtube videos indicate it hasnt been released yet... but this is conflicting since there seems to have been torrents for this mod already which are now either dead or have very low seeds.

Seems interesting thought.

Oh man i dont know

Shoc may have the worst Savegame system of all time. I mean, i had my Complete 09 saves in My Documents/SHoC etc. Then i uninstalled Cmplt without removing the saves, installed OL and guess were are the saves at?

Documents and Settings/DOCUMENTI whattahfuck?, Documenti looks like Documents in Italian :| THERE?

Now i installed CoP and it kinda works, but i cant load the first Level?! i mean it just freezes, took me 20 minutes to realize it crashed, just a few bits needed to be loaded in order to play the 1st mission or first fucking time in the silly zone! WHAT A WASTE.

Installed SHoC again with OL to finish the X16 Lab Part, scary :3, BUT GUESS WHAT; the fucking save system is back to kick my balls, and i cant find it, ANYWHERE!

AGAIN.

This AMK looks soooooooooo nice,  the map itself is fappage, looks like all STALKERS are all in one, even the other side of the river!

Some interesting read about STALKER 2, my comments in green:

Quote
GSC-Gameworld developers have published the first Q&A on their Facebook page. Not much new information, but some facts are estabilished:

Q: What will be the biggest difference between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the previous games, if any?
A: In brief, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will offer new story, new set characters (with some good old ones) and, of course, the new engine powering it.
F: Im hoping for the return of Strelok and Nimble.

Q: Will there be more of a survival element to STALKER 2?
A: Yes.

Q: What features have been removed/compromised in the PC version due to the multiplatform release?
A: Since we develop primarily on PC, you won't see any compromises in the PC version. The key difference between the PC and console versions will be the beauty of      graphics (meaning PC will offer more of visual effects).
F: Well it sounds promising that they arent going to tailor the game for Consolers on the expense of PC'ers, but vice versa.

Q: Will there be any new kinds of interaction with NPCs?
A: How do you mean? It's difficult to answer this one.
F: Perhaps this means for example the squad system in which you could recruit yourself a group of stalkers to follow you and fight for you? I dunno.

Q: Will Sidorovich be in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?
A: I will refrain from answering this one for now.
F: Oh sounds like a spoiler alert in this one huh?

Q: Will the faction wars return?
A: No.
F: Faction Wars as in what it was in Clear Sky or Faction Wars as what it is in the STALKER storyline? The ongoing battle between Factions no matter what the player does? Confusing question with confusing answer to it, but I believe that they meant the Clear Sky feature. At least I hope they did...

Q: Will the interface (inventory, map, etc) on the pc version suffer (like other games have) by trying to cater for console systems?
A: No, whatsoever.

Q: Will there be any new mutants?
A: Yes.
F: Sounds interesting, but I hope it doesnt mean like mutant cats or other previously cut monsters that are finally put ingame (such as Burers and Chimeras were before).

Q: How many weapons will be in Stalker 2?
A: It's difficult to give the quantitative figure at this point.
F: Honestly I expect little to no new weapons but a lot of the good ol' guns we've had since SoC.

Q: Which part of the zone will it take place? Or is it the zone at all?
A: We'll be locating the game in the triangle of CNPP, the cities of Chernobyl and Chernobyl 2 (where the huge antenna is located).
F: At first I thought what crap they are throwing with Chernobyl 2 but then I googled it and it appears to be the Duga-3 antenna complex. Sounds very good. City of Chernobyl, Duga-3 and NPP sounds good enough, considering it follows the Call of Pripyat footsteps and only makes three areas. Still hoping for a STALKER game that has all areas from all games in one huge map that's not so compromised with borders and load checkpoints.

Q: Is Zone going to be a large single [area]?
A: Let's postpone this question for now.
F: I doubt, but would be cool if it was one big area.

Q: Will it support DX11?
A: Yes.

Q: Will we see more X-Labs and secret underground complexes?
A: Yes.
F: It wouldnt be a STALKER game without at least one underground level.

Q: Will GSC expand on the import-a-weapon feature introduced with Nimble, and allow players access to more varied and custom weapons from outside the Zone by importing them through specialist contacts?
A: We have some interesting new ideas on this matter.

Q: Will artifacts be something we can go out and transmute through Anomalies?
A: No. However, the area of artifact application will expand.

Also, it appears there will be female STALKERs. I dont know, kinda interesting idea but we have gone so far without any females in the games that is it the time to break the barrier?  :P

While that is a very fresh idea, I have my doubts. Since GSC has stated this is a sequel to Call of Pripyat, I am almost willing to bet that this will follow Major Degtaryev again and only females you encounter are npc's.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I am quite dissapointed with the map, i was expecting a massive, All in One map for STALKER.

Nimble is such a weird character in STALKER, first it starts as a lone Dude sleeping forever in the Newbie Village, in CS he appears sitting in a chair forever but in the Clear Sky Base, and in CoP it appears sitting forever again, this time as a experienced gun dealer :/

About recruiting people, well if its well done then it'll be awesome. And how about a STALKER 2 Forum? i want to spam Online COOP Suggestions :P

Im preparing a bunch of Duty members to raid the Bloodsucker Village in Army Warehouses, im friends with Duty and i can travel from the Bar to the Army Warehouses with them :o, ill make them follow me to the village (First taking two or three tasks related to the village like, getting X Artifact, Destroy Bloodsucker Lair and grab the Nade Launcher). I'll probably bring 6 Guys with me, i've done some recon on the Village and its quiet, as always. I found one bloodsucker by the Tower eating a dead guy, i opened fire with my Steyr AUG and headshot at a range of 100m minium, its the first time i 1s1k a Bloodsucker, then i waited a little more and spotted a Pseudogiant :-|

I Guess i'll buy a M95 Berret or a M249 xD.

Flippy, i can see you're an experienced player. Remember Red Forest? When you go up in the Hill towards the Brain Scorcher? Remember in the big road, at the end of it, a barricade with a BTR and a few Monoliths, there was a sniper on the Left Side, over a platform. Yesterday i found a way to get up there, and theres a door and i must use a code to open it. I have a code under Found PDA/Monolith Soldier PDA but it wont open it, i tried to glitch it by dropping a long weapon and ended up wasting 2 SVDs xD

Any Ideas?
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Flippy Warbear on 13-02-2011, 23:02:59
Yeah the code to the door is 1287975.

Speaking of siding with factions. In all of my previous plays I have always sided with Duty for obvious reasons. But for the first time ever in this play-through I have sided with both Duty and Freedom. Doing missions for both but not the ones that includes killing the opposite team's members. Works wonders since things like the assault rifle grenade launchers cant be found anywhere else than by doing missions for Lukash and Duty allowing me to pass through Rostok and Yantar.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Torenico on 13-02-2011, 23:02:41
Yeah, i joined Duty in my first game, because Sidorovich gave me a badass suit with Night Vision. I mean, joining Factions in Complete/SoC is just pointless, theres no Faction Wars AT ALL.

If you join Duty, then you'll have a tough time trying to get to Red Forest = The barrier dudes there, if you kill them all like i did, then there will be mutants invading the whole area. If you join Freedom, then getting to the Garbage will be impossible! the Bar is blocking the way and theres no way to go around it!

Thats why i hate just one LoadCheckpoint per Area. Like Cordon ---> Garbage, every time i want to go to Garbage from Cordon, i have to kill like 6 Veteran Army guys armed with Abakans and KRISS, just repetitive and ANNOYING.

What i loved about Clear Sky was that, theres two or three ways to get from Cordon to Garbage, or Garbage to Agroprom.

And Thanks for the code, i will still look around and try to find it, so i dont glitch the door or something ;) I hope theres a stash inside :)

I didnt care one bit for Faction Wars in CS. I didnt join a faction and didnt help any of the factions to fight for grounds. Hell, I was trying to be what Scar is supposed to be, a Merc! Doing jobs for whoever pays but not joining anyone's side particularly.

In SoC, I dont join a faction, I never have done that simply because by being neutral Loner, you get to places easiest and make it more frustrating when you need to get around places. Altho I cant say I was ever bothered by blockade Freedom dudes, shot them down and then the mutants poured in, so what, just run past them into Red Forest, its not like the NPC's can follow you instantly into new locations. It'll take them several minutes before they appear into a new zone and by the time they do spawn at the entry point, you are most likely long gone.

If I remember correctly, you dont even need the PDA to open the door if you just know the code. But if not, I dont suggest looking for it. I cant remember if there would have been anything for me in the past, but this time around there was literally nothing.

Never joined any faction anywhere. They're all morons. Duty is bunch of orderly guns nuts. Freedom are basically anarchists. Monolith are crazy believers and Clear Sky is just foredoomed.

And that is exactly why I think a STALKER MMO would be a blast. It would let players to join factions that they think are the best. Obviously Dukat here would remain Loner, perhaps? :)

*Sigh* If only there would be a game like that.

I opened that door and son, i am dissapoint D:

Good thing is, theres no stash wich is a bad thing but, you can drop your weapons in the ground, move to another area, come back and the weapons would be still there. Unlike that department in Pripyat were you drop your guns and items in the ground, go back to RF, go back to Pripyat and then into that room, and the items guns would dissapear D:, well not really as they will appear under the floor x3

I killed a bunch of monoliths (Bunch=millions) and collected these guns to sell them to Skinflint, many M16A1s, Steyr AUG A2s, IMI Galil, AKS 74s, AKMs, Ak 74 M to sell. In my second journey to the freedom base, by the RPG Soldier barricade, i got hit by a blowout. Now i seen that in Oblivion Lost, the closer your are to the NPP, the more powerfull a blowout will be :|

So i had to run for my life, theres not many shelters to speak, so i ran towards that misterius North-East bunker and waited there, the Blowout ended, i started to walk towards the checkpoint and near the abandonned T90 i got ambushed by a pseudogiant , got him, later got attacked by a Izlom + Controller + Chernobyl Dogs (?) and killed them after a long fight :/

In my second journey i found a bloodsucker eating a dead monolith and that thing scared the shit out of me, but no big deal for my Ak-104 yo

I spent the night inside that Room, went to the Roof (thx no fences mod) and scanned the Forest with my binocs, some movements (chimera perhaps) and a zombie wich i think i killed with a Steyr AUG with ACOG :o

fucking amazing

I dont give a shit if theres 6 guns in STALKER 2, all i want is a fucking coop mode!!

Oh man, attacking the Bloodsucker village with some Duty members and Loner Rookies is pure win!.

Armed myself up with a SVD, AK74 M and a Browning Hi Power. And man, we came from the north, quickly captured the Tower and we moved on to the House with the RG-6. AT NIGHT @__@ a Rainy NIGHT ;__;

HELLA SCARY. I mean we walked slowly and then ambush! bloodsuckers everywhere! One of them killed half of my team. Two of the Loners had Hunting Shotguns and they were no challenge for the BSs D: so i had to wait for a Duty member to die, grab his Bofors AK-5 or AK 74 and sell it to the Loners.

In the end, i made it to the RG-6 with just one guy, waiting for me upstairs and then he fell, directly into a Fruit Punch o_O

I ran away so fast.... that the game lagged :o

I just discovered that Oblivion Lost 2010 does not fully work on Steam version, which sucks donkey kong for me as all my STALKER's are the steam versions and they will continue to be in the future aswell. Oh well, Im happy with Complete mod's, however this has risen the question wether or not Lost Alpha will require a physical version of the game and not the Steam version. It confuses me as I've tried a few mods before for each STALKER game and all of them have worked just fine on Steam, which makes me wonder why is the case that Oblivion Lost 2010 doesnt fully support Steam version and wether Lost Alpha will be neglecting Steam users aswell. Sad if that will be the case since its the mod I wait the most right now.

Speaking of which, Lost Alpha had a terrible little incident which is presumably now settled. They had a hacker who leaked a bunch of files and I believe an old build of the mod. So they are now to my knowledge wrestling with the options wether they'll continue working on the mod or just drop it entirely. In my opinion the latter seems totally out of option and just tasteless idea that one gets to your head when frustrated, sad and angry. Here is the hoping that they will continue producing LA and that it will support Steam version of SoC.

Its compressed in parts, like 6 or 7, you'd have to unrar them with this 7zip thingy, wich i never use and its so sloooooooooow.

Up to you then, if i were you i would get atleast a physical Copy of SHoC just because it has the best mods and honestly, best STALKER. You dont need CS, Complete works with Steam version doesnt it? And the only worth mods for CS are Complete and FactionWars. CoP well, Complete continues to work with Steam version of CoP, and the other mods available for CoP honestly, are inferior to Complete imo. All that, photo-realistic stuff, mods for a few guys with NASA Computers, hate them bastards.

The only mod that may come to CoP and fight for 1st Place with Complete will be Supermodpack 2.6 or 3.0, the main dev said they'll be moving to CoP once they finish in SHoC. Kinda weird because they've been making 2.5 for a year or something, trying to reach perfection wich is impossible in a game, sad, looks like it is a great mod but why? WHY PERFECTION?!

WHY MEGAREALISTIC GRAPHICS, if you're gonna ignore them, im not going to sit 2hrs watching how realistic that texture is, how accurate these shadows are, how big is the sun, i just wanna run the game on 50fps, no lag at all, no freezing, walk around look for loot, hunt a bloodsucker or two, get the tentacles, go to Yantar, sell the loot to the Trader up there and use to money to buy ammo for a SVD, go back kill more stuff, get the loot, sell and perhaps buy a MG3 or something.

Jesus..

Excellent graphics in this game work only once, first time you jump into the game you see how awesome they are, how realistic or something. Second time you might remember, third time you dont give a shit and start complaning about how laggy it is.

Whats up with these CoP mods?

I seen two that add areas from CS and SHoC.

This one is promising tbh, looks like i dunno, OL + CoP or something.

 S.M.R.T.E.R. Pripyat (http://www.moddb.com/mods/smrter-pripyat)

Looks like he's adding new Mutants/Weapons and areas?. The mutant thingy makes me a happy man, new mutants are always welcome, it feels old fighting bloodsuckers and dogs... like i said new mutants will not hurt ^^

Judging by this Image, its clearly CoP and its in ShoC's Red Forest, or maybe this famous place called 'Radar' wich i dont know what it is.

Doesnt make much sense to have Yanov and Zaton south of Cordon.

Cordon is supposed to be the southernmost border of the Zone. And both Zaton and Yanov are supposed to be in an area that was originally affected by the Brain Scorcher, that is, in the heart of the Zone and close to Pripyat. Like you could see in Yanov when you journeyed to easternmost side of the map to the canal/trench which ends the area, you could see Pripyat in the distance.

Ordered myself a physical copy of SoC since it was 4€ including postal... so I'll hopefully get into proper mods rather than just Complete on Steam version of SoC.

Radar refers to old Red Forest. The radar in SoC part of Red Forest is supposed to be the Duga-3 radar, but this site will be reused properly in Stalker 2. Also, Duga-3 was originally planned for Limansk aswell, and indeed, there is a large radar station within the town but apparently its not Duga-3.

Great, stalker is an awesome game and its cheap too!

I agree Zaton and Yanov are terribly placed. But also is Pripyat. But the game was made to force the place to see every area before reaching the NPP. Slighty kills the game a bit but, dont tell me its not awesome!

Looking for a DL, the DL button is black and theres people talking about a .41 Version. I Will make COP with Complete and then try this!

Playing Narodnaya Solyanka with retail SoC.  8)

EDIT:

Initial thoughts: Due to proper lack of time and being more hyped about the upcoming release of CoP Complete, I will not have the time I'd like to play Narodnaya in order to fully dive into the mod. However, once I got the time to play it properly, I will then write longer review of it once I have playing hours.

At first I had problems getting the mod to run but after couple of attempts I managed to get it to run which was delightful. So I journeyed into the zone only to realise that damn, the loading times takes ages in this, longer than when trying to load Complete save in Rostok. Anyway, mod seems nice but difficult. Starting with no suit and half the health, the military checkpoint at the cordon trainbridge ended many of my attempts to reach newbie village.

Overall the looks are great and the randomization of anomalies and stashes is a nice fresh breath of air but I found it way harder to spot these anomalies, getting blown apart by something almost instantly started to get frustrating after 5th load...

Generally I liked what I saw so far, however it was very little. Only negative I found was that the mod tends to crash or get bugged and so on. But otherwise its alright.

Hopefully I'll have the time to give this a spin and play for few hours. :)

What should happen when emission occurs, should stalkers bodies explode, should they die or become zombies. Didn't stalkers turn into zombies during emissions?
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Flippy Warbear on 11-03-2011, 13:03:16
Well yes and no.

I set the emissions to kill all stalkers when the emission wave hits them (since now there is actually a visible wave) since in many cases an emission has killed all life forms when it came into contact with them.

For example when the first emission occurred and the Zone was created, all life forms died that got caught by the emission. In Clear Sky intro the emission is said to kill all of the others in Scar's group while leaving Scar unharmed. Also throughout CS the emissions are the killing type.

Only thing that should people into zombies is the Brainscorcher which is by the time of CoP disabled by Strelok. However, lets not forget that in the end of Clear Sky, the emission that hits the player and the rest of the people fighting at CNPP dont kill anyone but turns them into sort of a coma. After the emission had hit them and turned people into wrecks, the Monolith forces gathered everyone in order to start brainwashing the victims of the emission into ranks of Monolith.

So this makes me think there are two types of emissions. Ones that have increased amount of energy capable of simply killing all lifeforms it comes in contact with and emissions with less energy which are used to boost the ranks of the Monolith army.

Basically my opinion behind this theory is that the Brainscorcher was made to turn people into zombies and these zombies usually wander around areas as a scare and as another nasty barrier for stalkers who want to journey into the heart of the Zone. Powerful emissions are meant for killing those who reached the center (Strelok in CS) of the Zone and less powerful emissions are for boosting Monolith numbers.

I play CoP Complete with the option that the emission kills people when the wave comes in contact with unprotected victims. But you dont go wrong if you decide that the emissions are the "zombie turning type" and make it so that the people turn to zombies instead. You dont go wrong, its just matter of taste. :)

At least if we go along the theory of having two types of emissions.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Dukat on 11-03-2011, 13:03:07
The emmisions are full of antagonism. lt kills you right away, while animals don't die. And the emission shelters are full of holes, besides they are not really suitable to keep away the radiactive blow.

Accordingly to Clear Sky you're not supposed to survive a blowout in the open, thus it should not turn people into zombies. What makes em zombies are the psy emmisions, I think. But those are not related to blowouts. So, it always felt a bit strange when animals survived after the blowout. At the Duty HQ in Clear Sky you could watch out of the window during blowouts, and I watched the animals from there. Really disappointing. They should have died and vanished for a while.

But like said, go with either "dying during blowout" (no matter wether at start or end) or "turn to zombies" since those are both good options and neither of them are wrong.

The exploding option is just... retarded.

Ya, SMTER looks pretty nice. It has Giant Spiders, i hate spiders but for some reason i want to see them. Imagine a bunch of spiders in these dark caves... god :(. But these spiders are dead if i have a Gewehr in my hands.

I started CoP with Complete, i like CoP dynamic A-Life thingy, i mean you see mutants roaming the whole place now, unlike in SHoC were you see mutants in specific places. In SHoC, you can easily evade mutants by just checking their spawn points, theres always a super safe route to go from X point to Y point. In CoP However, you have to scan the whole place constantly in order to advance, its fun and adds alot of randomness, plus you can now REALLY go hunting.

Yes, CoP is better for me... lol SoC was way too easy  ;D

But man, just get REDUX mod for SoC to make it way harder, and realistic.

I play CoP with some other realism mod.

Really? I seen vids of Army Warehouses, Radar and a few others in SMTER, but i think 0.41 has these new Areas..

Weird...

Im actually replaying Shoc with Oblivion Lost, im right in the last Mission, inside the NPP. Trying to do it with a PPSH41, Mosin Nagant and Lewis. I just reached the stairs with the army of monoliths and a Burer or Dwarf attacked me, and im also out of ammo.

Your right, Photo released on Feb 22nd, thats a "Few" Days ago imho xD

Okay so, this Sarcophagus mission is impossible. I found a XM-8 with 11 Bullets, then i sit and wait for the monolith dudes to come in and i see a figure, a man running, i tought it was a freaking monolith going crazy. So i aim, fire a few shots, then it dissapears.

Yes, it was a bloodsucker. My XM8 suddenly Clicks, out of ammo, i pulled off my Walther P38 and empty two mags on the bastard, but he got me first.

So far, SHoC's Sarcophagus Mission had, Millions of Monoliths.

OL's Sarcophagus Mission has: Millions of Monoliths, Dwarfs, Poltergeists, "Invensible" Controller and Bloodsuckers. What else? I cant go back, my last save is in front of X16 Labs, MUST BEAT THE GAME!

MUST BEAT IT

I would go for it. OL is fun, the campaign is the same and blah blah blah, but it has a cool Faction Wars mod, the old Mutants are now back, shitloads of weapons and vehicles and blowouts.

Its a great Mod imho, we dont know how much time SMTER will take honestly, can be released tomorrow as it can be released in two years :/, also SHoC has Lost Alpha and SuperModPack (2.5 Coming, some day) and AMK (Flippy should give us more details about that Russian mod :)) and that is great.

I havent played Narodnaya since I got it working on my retail SoC. I been too busy with CoP Complete, which I'll propably continue to be for a long while. Anyway, I will need to concentrate on Narodnaya later on when I got more time for it.

About the OL Controller at CNPP, do you mean invincible? I know about that one. It takes like helluva lot of beating before going down and pretty much insta-kills you when it hits you with the... whatever it does to you.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Torenico on 13-03-2011, 19:03:04
No idea. Theres a document in the Bar that tells you about a Invensible Controller in the CNPP. I was like -FINE-. The dude recommended me some RPGs, Grenades and a RG6. To make it more like a challenge, i will use normal weapons. The controller IS there, that effect the "oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaooooooooooooaaaaa" is fucking killing me. It fucks up your aim, when you get that effect, either a bloodsucker, two dwarfs or a bunch of monoliths rush you.

PPSH41 does nothing to Monoliths with Exos, takes half a mag to bring them down!
Lewis eats Exo Monoliths, but you can only buy Boxes of 250 Rounds (A Box is like 5kg), so i must save some ammo for the Controller.
Mosin Nagant i think it can beat them but no, for some reason shares ammo with Lewis, and im saving it for the Outside battle.

I had 18 grenades or something, the Entrance to the Sarcophagus was a killzone. Lot of Exo Monoliths rushed me, then came the Veteran Soldiers plus beign in supressed constantly by RPGs and Gauss rifles. Somehow, i made it, and got into the Sarcophagus with 5 Grenades... 5!

If i go for the Monolith Control, wich i will probably do, then i must use cheats. Atlas Spawn mod will save my ass. ALL monoliths have weapons, but when you kill them, the gun has no Ammo at all, empty. Bodies: No ammo. Some have extremly rare artifacts like Mammas Beads or something, Shell, Crystal Thorn wich is pretty hard to find, etc. So i must cheat some ammo in order to advance.

Yes, question about Artifacts in CoP. I see theres big anomalies like in CS with artefacts there. So i look with my Detector, marks the location of an Artefact, i pick it up and thats all. Okay so, in CS afaik Artefats were "limited", in CoP, each emission spawns new Artefacts? So they're Unlimited?
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Flippy Warbear on 13-03-2011, 19:03:57
To my knowledge the artifacts reappear once an emission has occurred.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Torenico on 13-03-2011, 19:03:43
Finally i made it past the Stairs and killed all the Monolith dudes there, mountain of bodies. Must do quick search, running out of anti rads and the auto injector thingy will start using Scientific First Aid, and it takes the rad off, not heal up. So i'll cheat some Anti Rads.

Walked a few meters and got killed by a Burer and a Bloodsucker.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Torenico on 13-03-2011, 22:03:24
Yeah! finally finished this silly sarcophagus part. I had to download that Black and White Elite Night Vision in order to do it. I found a controller inside, but there was a Burer behind. So i dropped a grenade, but killed the Controller. Ran away...

Then, outside. Last Teleporter, my guy was tired, blurry vision and stuff, checking bodies for Artifacts. From nowhere i hear a BAbababahbaa, look up and i had a fucking Izlom-Zombie thingy. Got him.

Walked into the last Teleporter (Before, i had the Controller Effect, i tought it was because of a Emission that happend earlier, also seen a couple of Izloms and Bloodsuckers). It didnt teleported me to the Top of the tower, to end the game. No, teleported me to the ground. Bam, controller Effect. Seen one behind some columns, say hi to my Gun i said, he turned around (I had full HP), piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii buuuuum dead.

That's the controller i was looking for. He simply walks slowly towards you, you have some pillars to take cover, he hits you one time, and you're dead. He's unstoppable. Running out of ideas.

best mission of the game.

Wow. Faction wars can really fuck up the zone!

First of all: The army in Yantar Bunker. Dunno why but they're there now. And allied with Duty.
Second: Theres also an helicopter in Yantar, "Hunting" Mutants but more like Hunting me hehe. Sometimes, its fun to run away from Missiles and crap ^^
Third: Massive Bandit invasion on Bar :|, when i say massive its massive. First, bodies everywhere, some bandit bodies too. Tought it was some random event or a silly move by the AI. Then, after some time out of the Bar, tons of Dutys and Loners bodies, among them Bandits. Then, the bar, were the barkeep is, Loners and some Bandit bodies. Also 2 bandits. Some characters died (Find the Duty rifle dude= dead, Snitch dead, another character dead). I cleared the bar with Hunter, or the Family rifle dude.
And finally: 6 Dwarfs spawned in the Barrier, among them a Controller and 5 Zombies. F1 Grenade does miracles, a well placed one and you kill 2 Dwarfs.

AI can be really smart sometimes!

About Complete CoP, kinda dont like it. Its fine but game started to run bad, i mean bad. Lags quite a bit sometimes, got lost in some missions, gameplay kinda sucks (SHOC has the best gameplay), i dunno... might sit and wait for SMTER.

AMK didnt work, no idea why, ShOC+1.0005 Patch + AMK and nothing. I start the game, some intro showing nukes and then ctd.

maybe you guys can help me out:

I want to re-install and re-play STALKER but this time with mods. I was wondering if you guys have any tips and wether stuff like COP Complete works with Steam version of STALKER at all.

I now have only got STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl from Steam, but am more than willing to get the CS/COP add ons.

Basically I just want to get the best STALKER experience, with bells and whistles included. I played SOC a couple of years ago but didn't know anything about modding this type of game (and my then-PC was way crappier than the one I have now) and I want to relive that awesome experience! So tell me the do's and don't on this one.  :)

Thanks!

First, install any of the STALKER games you have (Steam or retail, doesnt matter).

Second, download and install Complete mods for your STALKER games.

Third, enjoy the best STALKER experience without too much of weird modded stuff, but only enhanced, fixed and improved vanilla STALKER.

--

All Complete mods work with Steam versions of STALKERs. Cannot say the same for every mod thought. Some mods do work, some dont. Best bet is to find out by yourself. I couldnt get Narodnaya Soljanka to run with Steam version, but I could do it np with a retail version.

I still believe that Complete 09 is the best Mod for STALKER out there. For now.

Its just amazing. The first time will be epic, remember my first night, a rainy one in the garage with a loner. God, i heard some many sounds coming from outside.. i was so scared i couldnt look trough the window. If it crashes, then its a pretty rare event, never crashed for me. OF course, i would be playing if it wasnt by Supermodpack and Oblivion Lost. Complete looks tiny compared to these two, in terms of Items, Mutants and weapons. Still excellent mod for a start!  ;D

Flippy, i downloaded Narodnaya Soljanka, but i cant get it to work.

First i had the one i believe you have, Narodnaya_Soljanka_DMX_1.3.2_dkz_02_English, and it crashed on Intro. Now i got this one, NS_v19.04+14.08+03.09 ( ???) but it wont start the game at all ;___;

But anyway, you playing it with 1.0005 patch? is it any good? Does it has +30 Areas? ARSENAL Mod weapons? Good Sounds? (Somewhere Around COMPLETE09 sounds, wich were awesome), does it crash alot like people say? x>

Playing Call of Pripyat here also, with the Complete mod. Missed it when it came out and it's nice, I did play the first one. Skipped Clear Sky. I caught a Belgian documentary at Easter about the disaster and it featured CoC, the first game. It was mostly about the sacrofag being placed.

Sad really, but hell of a series. Emissions scare the crap out of me, zombie mode on ofcourse ;D

So, it's been a week and completely hooked again... Complete 2009 rules indeed. Okay, it's been too long since the last time I've played STALKER to really tell the difference, but it just feels better.   :-)

I installed a weapons mod for Complete 2009 as well, but I mistakenly thought it was gonna add authentic/historical weapons too. Alas, not the case. So now I'm wondering if you guys know if there is such a thing as an authentic weapons mod for STALKER.  That is still compatible with Complete 2009, I'm in no mood to re-install and re-configure the whole game.

And also, I kind of hoped that weird freeze-frame lag from the original vanilla game would be history with Complete 2009. You know, you run across an area and every 200 meters or so the game freezes for like 3-5 seconds and then goes on like nothing happened. It has probably to do with the ginormeous levels in this game

Anyone know if there is a remedy for that? Thanks.

Another question:

Just ended the "find Ghost" mission (at Yantar Lab X16) and when I came back to the Bar area suddenly the Duty guys are green on my minimap and I've somehow pissed off the Freedom faction. Do you guy maybe know if that comes with that particular mission? Because before I went in to the lab me and Freedom were the best of buddies, and I swear there were no Freedom guys in the lab I might have shot...

I did sort of pledge allegiance with the scientists at Lake Yantar after that quest, maybe that's it?
Tried the Complete option of resetting allegiance and paid the barkeep 40 000 but when I came to the Freedom warehouse they still immediately opened fire again. :(

I can probably play on perfectly fine with the new balance, but this time around  I was gonna be as neutral as possible and I think I just messed that up.

If you chose to work with the scientists then things can go wrong. For some reason, Freedom seems to be in war with the Scientist, wich is totally Stupid.

Post by: Mud Buddha on 14-05-2011, 14:05:24
Ah well, after a couple of reloads with nothing changing (cutting allegiance with the scientists did get Duty after my ass too) I decided that I needed Freedom less so I stayed in league with the scientists. If you piss off Duty you completely rule out the whole bar area and I still needed to finish some quests there. Although I doubt I'll be going all the way back now that I've arrived in Pripyat.

But funny to see that stuff like that is different for each player. :-)

New request, hopefully someone here can help me out.

I recently bought Call of Pripyat on Steam, installed it and modded it to Complete. But where SoC (and "recent" games like the last Wolfenstein and Call Of Duty WaW) ran fine on my PC , Pripyat runs like crap. Microlag every 2 to 3 steps, firefights going wrong because of low framerate, etc.

I've tried to dial down on the details and stuff but it just seems like the game itself doesn't want to run or something. It's basically unplayable now, because it's simply no fun, and kinda sickening.

My rig:
Intel Core2 Duo 2,8 Ghz, 2Gb, ATI Radeon 5670, WinXP

If anyone here has some tips for tweeking stuff, I'm all ears. I couldn't really find anything when googling for settings on Pripyat, but I did see one picture of the game's settingsmenu with sliders and option I don't even have in my game. :s

Thats amazing, IMO.

And a Darkscape Shot, perhaps the map i would die to play. They say its big, really big, has a great Russian feel and its mostly abandonned/mutants. Its THE map.

You know Monolith Control was probably the safest place in the whole CNPP area. After you clear the place of Monoliths, nothing would harm you. Theres no radiation (totally stupid, radiation free area that is barely 75m  away from the reactor???)

Well guess what, our friend smrtphoneusr has added some threat in that place. Yes, fucking bloodsuckers ,when you felt you had enough of these bastards and head to the Control Room for resting, NO, Bloodsuckers will be waiting for you patiently.

Dont get the Steam version tho.

Try to buy it in your local gamestore if you can, Steam version is a bitch as many mods wont work.

IF you're getting SHOC:

IF you're getting Clear Sky:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/clear-sky-complete

IF you're getting Call of Pripyat:

Essential for STALKER, i believe it works with Steam version, i think Flippy plays these mods with on Steam.

Hehe, yeah. You can make good stories with your firsts days on STALKER. They're creepy, everything seems to be hostile. In Cordon, it took me 3 days (Human Life) to get to the other side of the RAILWAY, WTF, i was so scared. I trusted the other stalkers stories about the zone and shiiiiiiiit.

Correctomundo. I have Steam version(s) for Complete and retail version for any other mods. Complete is essential, since it only enhances the vanilla experience to the max rather than mod it too much to make it feel... too moddish.

so guys why should i buy STALKER?

yay, a new devotee! ;)

But seriously, I can pretty much assure you're gonna like this game. I've played Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Skies and am currently playing Call of Pripyat with the Complete mod and it is one of the best game experiences I've had. The first one is the better game, but if you like that one the other two are a blast as well. And it's dirt cheap on Steam.

To the others: is it possible to install other mods with the Complete mod (not game-improving per sé, but like more weapons and stuff), or is it one mod at a time? Tnx.

If there is a S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 incoming, i just cant wait for it

Together with Metro 2033 , S.T.A.L.K.E.R are eastren bloc gems

There was a weapons pack for Complete 2009 (SHoC) but i think it never got released.

Not many mods work with Complete, my recommendation is to go for mods such as  SuperModPack  (http://www.moddb.com/mods/super-mod-pack),  Oblivion Lost  (http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-soc-oblivion-lost-2010) (SMP and OL are basically the same, but diffenret...) there you have tons of new weapons and some new features, including new mutants!.

Then you have the huge texture improvements mods, wich none of them work in my system, but they're great.

 Particle Paradise  (http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-particle-paradise)

 Atumn Aurora  (http://www.moddb.com/mods/autumn-aurora-compilation-mod)

Sick mods, huge improvments on graphics and i think Particle Paradise works on Gameplay too.

Then you have the "Total Conversions", such as AMK, Norodnaya Soljanka, Priboi Story, POORMANS SOUP, DMX-DKZ, Lost Trails.

All of them are Russian mods, all of them has a new Story.

AMK is sort of, the mother of the stalker mods. Many mods have AMK features on them, for some its a base for their mods. I have not tried it yet, i think i will never do it. If i have to play something that'd be "POORMANS SOUP" Mod.

NS. It makes the zone a more hostile place, new mutants, characters, story, etc. Uh, i think the storyline is the same as AMK. Buggy, a common word in the worlds of AMK based mods. Sad.

DMX DKZ is some sort of NS with more stuff. I think its good for its NOT for everyone. Storyline is the same as AMK/NS.

POORMANS SOUP  (http://www.tecnobacon.com/), i think thats the name, i dont know. But i think it began when DMX-DKZ 1.3.4 got released. Many bugs were promised to be fixed, but since its a mod that takes the SHoC engine to its limits, well, there were bugs. Tecnobacon, this dude was making the mod i believe, he did an extraordinary job IMO. I downloaded it but had to quit due to unstability in my PC. But its SO SO recommended. Storyline i think it is AMK one, and ITS NOT A MOD FOR EVERYONE.

Priboi Story  (http://www.moddb.com/mods/priboi-story), some Russian dudes made it. I dont know, never played it. Heard its awesome but its too vanilla for me. Completly new storyline, people says theres a lot of things to do, tasks, missions, weapons to find, mistery, etc.

Secret Trails IIRC its a mod that is based on AMK. It has a new story and many people says its actually a good mod. Its a pain in the arse to find English Translations i think (One of the main problems of this mods, Ukranians and Russians develop it not exclusively for Western Population, wich is fine.). Well look at that forum and you'll find everything.

OFC these mods are for STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.

I think this game offers a great bunch of mods, of all sorts.

Have fun.

Thanks for the extensive descriptions.

But first I have to get my Steam-powered STALKER running again: I can't start up my Call of Pripyat anymore. Don't know if that's to do with the recent Steam hacking or that it's just a Win7 thingy I've overlooked. I've recently switched to Win7 and reinstalled CoP. It worked fine for a while, but since (I think) 2 weeks or something it won't boot anymore. I double click the shortcut or try run it from the Steam interface but nothing happens. Afterwards Steam does state I have played STALKER today... :-(

So I need help. Anyone?

I highly doubt it is related to the Steam 'hacking'  :P There might just be something wrong with your install. A simple check would be to go to Steam, your games, right click on Call of Pripyat, properties, local files and then 'verify integrity of game cache'.

If that doesn't work, well come back here and the real experts will help  ;D

I somehow got it to work on my own. Went to 'steam apps' folder on my PC and used the CoP icon there with 'admin'-blabla and it started up. Weird. But I'll look into your tip as well. Don't know if 'my' way is the right way, on the long run. ;-)

I wish Valve could come in and save STALKER, its a great Title that sold 4.000.000 of copies, it CANNOT die because of "Personal Reasons".

GSC can go to hell, i dont care about it, i care about STALKER, 383 hours into Shadow of Chernobyl, 106 hours on Clear Sky, 41 on Call of Pripyat, according to Xfire.

It seems that we will never get the Ultimate STALKER game, it seems that i will never be able to kill Bloodsuckers with flippy (?).

I mean, STALKER 2 promises so much, that its stupid to cancel it. Released both on PC and Consoles, Multiplayer Coop, better Engine, Graphics, its a STALKER, cmon! if the other STALKERs sold 4mil copies, how much would have STALKER 2 sell?

What a piece of shit day.

There will be an official announcemet this Monday by GSC.

Apparently, the original Ukranian Article was badly translated, leading to speculation that GSC was defiently closing down and the Ukranian Security Services was investigating GSC.

There are rumours that GSCwas just moving offices.

Also a tweeter account, perhaps the officla gsc tweeter, said that "GSC will not be closed" and that tweeter was deleted shortly after.

Thanks for the link. I saw a great little doc too, about a 12 year old girl who lived in the Chernobyl area. She had a braintumor and had to choose between life in Ukraine with her mother or a possible better and healthier life in Italy with a foster family.
The doc itself was part of a four-parter about kids around the world with specific troubles growing up, but hers was the more gut wrenching. I mean, these kids grow up with basically only geigercounters as toys...

I lent the DVD box it was in to my mom, so I can't look up the exact title just now, but will post it later. It was only like 20 minutes, but very interesting.

Anyhoo, my issue is this:
STALKER: CoP won't start up anymore. I run it through steam and never had any problems with it, but roughly after their troubles a couple of weeks ago I can't start up the game anymore. Don't know if these two thing are connected but they happened roughly around the same time. You get that 'pre-start up screen' that states it's loading or something, and then nothing.

Has anyone encountered the same, or maybe knows a remedy? I hope so, cuz I was quite far along in the storyline, and would hate to have to do it all over again... :-)

Thanks

Post by: :| Hi on 18-01-2012, 04:01:38
So I helped a few guys out around Cordon and I start walking towards the train tracks when 3 of em radio in:
"Hey Marked One, watch out, bloodsuckers have been seen around Cordon"
I take a bit more caution than usual and head over to help the guy being chased by pseudodogs, after healing and assisting him, he hands me a Mac 10 in perfect condition. I thank the guy, and head out.
As I start to get near the garbage entrance "Hmm, better check out everything with binocs"
./3 Bloodsuckers in area
"shit"
After identifying their positions, I dropped my backpack down and rooted through it, tossing empty Kalashkinov magazines aside, I pulled out my VSS. Back when fending off a mil-attack at cordon, I had picked it up off the cold hands of a private, along with 50 rounds. It had a few scratches, but it worked well enough to do it's job. I zipped up my backpack, and dropped into a low crouch, zooming into the bloodsucker's location, as they were all grouped up. I picked the closest one, and put two rounds in it's skull. Only to find out I had enraged it (from a safe distance). As it stormed to and fro, I drilled 2 more rounds into it's torso, and it slayed it. A quick reload later, I checked the bushes. The other two bloodsuckers were gone and nowhere to be seen, certainly a sign of imminent doom. I warily continued down the road, chucking the ocassional bolt in front of me. A pack of feral dogs slowly advanced towards me and I slid the Mac 10 I had out of it's holster, checking the barrel and doing a mental count of the locations for the one hundred and thirty someodd rounds I had on me. A small click, and I was on rock n' roll mode. The dogs took this chance to attack. Several bursts in, I had annihilated most of the pack however more and more mutants started to be drawn in. A Flesh and a few more dogs joined in, with a cat packing as the rear guard. Wave after wave fell, the sound of brass clinking on the dilapidated street and the Mac 10 sounding it's thunderous staccato. As I finished off the cat and the grass around me grew quite, save the sound of my reloading in preperation to move on, a claw buried itself in my right shoulder. Pain shooting up the right side of my body. I quickly leapt back and drew my Mac 10, whisps of smoke still ascending from the barrel, and restarted my orchestral symphony. My rounds hit dirt. The grass to my right shimmered as a mirage, the barely visible outline of a contorted man shown. A claw appeared, swinging towards me and fire erupted from my barrel. The bloodsucker flew back and just as it was about to connect with me, it crumpled. The last piece of brass in my magazine, dropping to the ground. I reloaded, mentally acknowledging my supply of only 29 9x19 remaining, and sat to patch myself up. It wasn't much damage, but those few seconds had felt like a lifetime. I mentally relived the moment, like the first kiss of a first lover, replaying it over and over. A few minutes drifted by, and I snapped out of it. Getting up, I walked towards the gatehouse to go to the Garbage with my VSS in hand. A solitary figure of a bloodsucker walking in the distance by a large rock, being followed by a loyal dog. I lined up the crosshairs of my VSS, waiting for the right shot. My finger slowly pressing down on the trigger. Hesitation. The blind dog had befriended something. It was alone from the other packs, but it had made a friend. A pang of guilt ran through me. Would it be right, to kill it's only friend, who was a good distance away from a regularly travelled road? I weighed the options in my head. Save Loner's travelling along? Or leave them alone? A round fired off, I had been subconsciously pressing the trigger still. The bullet followed it's path, breaking the skull of the bloodsucker and ending it's life in a flash. A second. The dog ran off a distance, obviously scared by the sound of the body hitting the dirt, but soon returned and started to sniff the corpse. I watched it lay by the body, patiently waiting for it's only friend to wake up. I put a round in it's head, an instantaneous death. An hour later I had laid the bodies to rest behind the large rock that they had frequented, together even in death.

Then I went to the guardhouse, killed two guys, and got more ammo for my Mac 10 \o/

Lmao, hope you didnt kill that dog -_-

RPK is loads of fun, try to get a PSO-1 Scope and mount it on the RPK, Jesus.

Want the MP40, MP41? (Iirc MP41 was in the game), Go to Yantar, get into the facility (Not underground, just in the yard) and kill zombies. DO NOT get closer to the center of the factory or you'll end up like them.

Yantar in Complete = BEST PLACE EVER.

First time i got there i was with a friend of mine playing the game, we were like, throwing bolts all the time and using our L85A1 Scope to snipe stuff.

We had two ways, the Bunker or the Factory. We went right to the factory, and it was hell. I heard something, i started to shoot like mad with my L85A1. something was watching me and i had to run.

Ran for the Bus parked by the road, i got in there, soon i was surrounded by a considerable number of Zombies and something else. BAM BAM zombies are falling but the other thing was still there, moving around.

After waiting for a while the little bastard showed up, it was a Snork. My first encounter with a snork. I think i ran away or killed him, i dunno.

But we couldnt get back to Wild Territory, we were too fucking scared. Before this incident, we were doing the scientist mission in WT, but night was about to come and there was little time of light left. Flashlight kinda sucks and no NV yet. We were by the abandonned construction where the Mercs are. And Jesus motherfucking Christ, like in a movie, a ghostly figure shows up walking, we, actually, my friend, emptied his L85A1 magazine into that figure.

Let me tell you, IF he actually hit something, we should consider him lucky, because he sprayed the entire screen with bullets and noone actually managed to hit the target.

So we ran trough the Tunnel at hight speed, doing something really bad. Spending the night in Wild Territory wasnt a good idea, so we decided to run for Yantar.

Night almost there, and we were in Yantar, for the first time.

:| Hi, when you get to the X16 Mission, or the labs you need to find in Dark Valley, i recommend you to do it the ninja way. I mean you get to the factory first, kill all bandits, get into the underground, HUNT DOWN THE TWO PSEU---- monsters, otherwise one of them will spawn with you in a 2x2 room and will fuck you up. Make constant saves.

So, bring a nice USP or something with a silencer. Kill the first guard you encounter and the rest of the mission, do it ninja style. Dont let them detect you, its loads of fun. IF you die with your NV on, and you load the game back, for some reason you start with your NV turned off and turning it on means DEATH. Probably might make things more interesting ;)

And get a SAIGA 12k as soon as you can, you'll need it for the last stages of the game ;)

Nono, he came to my house and we played some SHoC but no MP.

Unfortunely.

I was trying to get STALKER-Online working tho, but i cant get CoP 1.6.0.0 patch. Its just not available in the internet, and you need exactly that patch.

It amazes me that its all about Humans vs Monsters, and they're might be adding A-Life and Scripts like in SP.

Playing Misery for CoP.

Feels like the Zone is punching you right in the face.

So, in case you havent played...

You start out in the installation of the game, with one neat feature called "Classes". You have three classes with unique abilities (No super power shit).

Those are,

Sniper
Scout
Assault

Sniper you start out with a Mosin Nagant, you are specialized in Sniping, i think you have moderate spring and Snipers will not break down that easy.
Scour, you start out with a VSK-94, wich looks like a VSS Val. Anyways, long sprinting, you can carry alot of stuff and you are specialized in maintaining these kind of weapons.
Assault, you can barely sprint, you can carry more weight, you start with a Ak-105 and you are specialized in maintaining assault rifles.

So i've chosen Scout. As i started, i noticed that you have NO difficulty, the mod makers select the difficulty. So i heard this mod is actually a noob-killer, ammo is a valuable resource, money isnt abundant, traders are big motherfuckers and the zone is a big piece of shit.

So, i started with an "honorary PM" and my VSK-94, walked a few meters, got ambushed by the new lookin' Flesh, two of them. First one comes rushing at me! Boom boom, he's down. 18 Bullets left, i forgot to say that you start out with NO ammo reserves.

So i made my way to Skadovs, or whatever the damn name is, walked around, testing lag, then a bunch of loners and bandits came out to fight a pseudodog, 3 dogs, one boar and two flesh, one bandit died i took his stuff, knifed a flesh.

Now an emission, waiting.

My plan is to stay here in this ship for 3 days before moving on, looting nearby bodies and going to hunt with my knife.

I just mowed down 8 cats, 4 bloodsuckers, and took part in a gangwar between military and bandits in Dark Valley. I counted the dead NPCs and there were ~73, not including the phantom thing and controller. The only survivors were myself, and a friendly Loner who always camps by a rock. I make it a point to give him all my good weapons I don't need because he's survived so many waves of shit.

Super Mod Pack for Shadow of Chernobyl

http://www.moddb.com/mods/super-mod-pack/news/smp-25-news-update

I'm going through my second playthrough on it atm, its generally pretty good and I enjoy the large variety of weapons.

Love HSing Bloodsuckers from across the map with my AWP/Scoped Mosin/VSS. Great fun.
Getting funky in a sewer system with an Mg34 on bandits makes me giggle as well.

Quick edit: The Hello Kitty AK-47 you see in the picture, I once found on the corpse of a regular freedom guy who was trying to kill me. Was funny to turn a corner and see this big hulking exoskeleton start popping rounds at me with a pink AK.

On the AK issue, your typical AK-47 has maybe 3 or so represented manufacturers in this mod, based on the color of the wood.

IIRC ,just based off today what I have seen:
47
AK
AKM
AKMS

74
AKS
AK

AK:
101
103
102
107
105

RK 95 TP ( You ought to recognize that'n)

and a few others.
It's mostly a case of accuracy but some do a wee bit more damage than others (even within the same caliber)

If the rumors are true and they want to do it on the Gamebryo engine, we are screwed. Worst thing that could happen is a console version. Don't get me wrong, I like consoles but I definitely don't want to see S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in there because it will automatically restrict details and gameplay hence atmosphere.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: :| Hi on 31-07-2012, 19:07:15
My whole problem with it would be atmosphere, bad AI, and shitty combat.

For being a newer game, F:NV looked like ass. I know it is supposed to be the Mojave, but damnit I live in the mojave and it doesn't look that bad.

As for AI, the last thing I want are a bunch of Lydias when it comes to Loners, if there was a blood sucker by cordon, you would see all the Loners with only pistols run away, if it attacked them, they would try to fight back then run.

And combat has always been shitty in the fallout series, clunky weapons and the only decent way of combat is by using your pipboy
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Bethesda will just make a random game using the name for a Chernobyl environment. I bet it will feel like Fallout. The real Stalker will live or die with the original creators, depending on what those do.

FUCKING S.T.A.L.K.E.R. man.
I started a new game of SmP 2.4
I played off the save from that, and I had an extremely sizeable collection of weapons. Read: Almost everything NATO and a hellaton of AKs, along with an AWP and several M14s.
I decide to do the mission where I kill burer and go to the lab for the documents.
Well.
I must have killed 40 mutated rats, because holy shit, a fucking SWARM came out of the sewer line by the top of the lab.

Several bloodsuckers, about 3 in total, chased me as well. I am shitting my pants at this point.
I have a fucking swarm of mutated rats, 3 bloodsuckers, and my AK-74 high cycle is out of ammo in the mag. I start to fucking book it to the “safe houses” where three friendly loners are. I get over there, and one guy responds. A great guy with a SPAS-12. He kills several rats and injures the bloodsuckers before being killed himself. I would later pick his SPAS-12 up, and put it in my stash, a shotgun for me to use the rest of the game in his memory.
I book it to the top of the hill, and then turn around as there are bandits at the entrance to Dark Valley. I reload my AK-74HC, and then count to three.
I see two shimmers run up the hill and unload into one. Thats one bloodsucker retreating. I reload, run and jump away from the others claws, and unload into that one.
Then, I pull my PS90 BADABOOM, a gun I picked up off of a dead custom stalker, Tanya, who fell to dogs outside of the BAR. It is a P90, with a 20 round magazine, that shoots buckshot.
The third bloodsucker has arrived, and I shoot 10 rounds into it, watching its shimmering form crumple and become solid amongst the ground. I reload and kill another. One left. Three rats run up screaming their bloody lungs off and I give each a bit of buckshot. I leap out of the way of the bloodsuckers claws, turn around, and put several rounds into his back. His body jerks forward, and he falls to the ground, his hiss quieting as the life seeps out of his body.
Several more rats.

I kill them, one by one with my now reloaded AK-74HC and start to move back to the lab entrance, stopping by a car I had stood on top of, which was now on its side, grill and door completely broken off by a bloodsucker chasing me. My mobile bunker hurtling onto its back, I ran off to the safe houses. When visiting it now, it was just about destroyed, even more so than regular Zone cars. The lights on, shining onto a bush.
I started to creep along the side of the road, looking for rats to shoot, and watching for anything else that would move, my eyes darting from side to side.

As I entered the compound, I heard the muffled breathing of a Snork. Several snorks to be exact. One spotted me and immedietly I heard the cry of the pack leader, it sent ice into my blood. I aimed down my trusty AK's sights, and let rip into the pack, several falling to my bullets, then I turned and ran for ground. A snork leaped over the wall and I reloaded, mentally counting the ground it would need to cross before I was done reloading. The magazine, 30 rounds, clicked into my magwell, and the snork leapt. I side-skirted to its right, and fired two bursts. One burst into its side, the other into its gasmask of a soul. Its life ended there. I turned on one foot, the other bracing me for the recoil of my AK, and kill the remaining one with a burst to the skull. I entered the plant.
My footsteps echoed back to me from the walls and the heat slowly left my AKs barrel. Not often would I fire over 300 rounds in just under a span of 3 minutes.

I held the bolt open to let the fumes of gunpowder and more of the heat on the barrel air out. That proved to be a mistake. I heard the yelping of blind dogs and rats outside. I ran to the very top of the building and climbed both ladders onto the roof.
Below was a mess of things I did not like or want to see.
Two bloodsuckers, several rats, three snorks, and a zombie all smelled me. A venerable feeding frenzy was taking place. The bodies of the deceased bandits and dead creatures alike became food. I tossed 7 RDG-5 grenades down and killed most.

The dogs and rats were mostly gone except for two rats, now scurrying along to and fro. The bloodsuckers disappeared and could barely be observed running alongst the walls. I took out the RPG out that I had picked up a floor below me, took aim, and watched the rocket trail. Bodies flew everywhich way, into buildings, over the wall, you name it. I quietly collected myself, saved, and waited for my next adventure to start tomorrow.

What is this SmP mod and why do you have mutants only in Dark Valley? The P90 buckshot seems a bit off like the M134 Minigun in Arsenal Mod.

Super mod Pack 2.4 Its a conglomerate of mods, kind of like hwo Complete is.

There were Loners, Duty, and bandits/mercs in the Dark valley as well, most of them were dead of half dead by the time I was done with the mission.

And on the M134, I picked one of those up from a Merc that was one of the mod developers.

Dark Valley is a great place Hi.

When im bored, i usually go to that abandoned farm at night and stay in the entrance, at some point of the night, some bandits spawn at the Garbage > Dark Valley entrance and make their way to the farm, now thats fun, intense firefight at night. My recomendations, disable the HUD and dont use Night Vision.

Also raiding the Bandit HQ at night silently is HELLA FUN, arm yourself with a USP with a silencer and just a few bullets and i dont know, you set your goals, like reach the armory and steal their vodka or something.

I'm still stuck on the NPP Mission. I've cleared the whole place (Outside, south NPP) from monoliths, but the problem is inside. Not only i get attacked by the army of monoliths, but also i get rushed from everywhere by Burers and Bloodsuckers, not a good thing eh!, i barricaded myself at the end of a corridor and made a last stand with the 50 Gewehr 43 rounds i had left, 2 bloodsuckers came rushing at me, i emptied my Gewehr's 10 rounds and pulled out my TT33, i barely managed to fire once when i was already dead.

Yeah, I love dicking around in the Dark Valley.

Not looking forward to X-16 and then ten thousand bloodsuckers in there  :P

I'll give the Bandit HQ raid a try, I've got a USP compact, just need to find a silencer for it!

Post by: Torenico on 05-08-2012, 19:08:26
Take any pistol, it doesn't matter, i took a USP because i already had it equipped :P

Another fun thing to do in Dark Valley:

After you complete the lab mission, the surface complex will be raided by the military and you'll have to make your way out of it. Challenge: Get out of the complex without firing a single shot and undetected (Make sure you do it at night). The only guy you'll have to kill is the first soldier, its impossible to get pass him without being detected, so kill him with a silenced pistol.

Gah, I already finished that. I knew it was coming since this is my second time playing through, I took the RPGs I had found and made some pretty big booms. Thanksfully I didn't hit any Duty!

Lol

Remember the Bandit HQ? theres an abandoned building in front of it, theres a wounded Loner and when you get close to him, a bloodsucker spawns and attacks you. That loner, was my best friend.

He was like, the best loner EVER, i gave him a M4 and a M1911 and man, he was badass! One night at Wild Territory, holding out the first barricade against a wave of mutants, me, him (Vadya Rocket, IIRC that's his name) and some duty guys holding that position, it was all chaos. I pulled back to the Bar but he didn't come. It was like 2AM when i returned to Wild Territory searching for him, he did come back.

Then i told him to stay at the Bar, but he was sorta bugged. When you travelled to the bar from somewhere else, he will leave his last position and meet you at the spawnpoint. He didn't listen and ran straight into the pack of pseudodogs at the bar, i couldn't save him.

His resting place is in the bar, under one of the crosses.

Also tanya is dead? that bitch is hard to take down, she is one of the two unique stalkers alive on my game.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: :| Hi on 05-08-2012, 20:08:03
She ALWAYS wanders out into where the dogs are outside of the bar and picks fights with them, usually my third time coming through I'll find her corpse. I saw her fight them once, instead of using the shotgun, she used some shitty pistol.  ::)

I'll go check the abandonded building out, its been awhile.

I visited cordon and helped them fight all the bandits, I must have given all my extra AKs away.

So in one of the typical cases of a controller at the BAR, nobody was being affected by it or attacking it. So I did the logical thing.

I ran up to it from behind in a bush, and stabbed it three times in the head.

Cool thing about controllers in SMTER is that they turn nearby NPCs into zombies untill the controller himself is dead.

I will never forget how a controlled turned half of the Freedom base into zombies, i killed the Controller with a AWP from a Sniper Tower and they were all normal after that x3

I will also never forget how me and a couple of dutys and Vadya Rocket defended the Bar from the Bandits, daaaaaamn, rainy night, my only light were the lightnings (i didnt want to use my NV because it would be unfair) and in the bunker by the south entrance to the bar, good times.

Bandits captured the Bar in my Oblivion Lost game... only the essential NPCs were not killed.

Please make those link only.

Complete mod (Available to all STALKER games) isnt that big fortunately, but it does similar thing. It:

- Fixes bugs
- Adds some small alterations to weapons which allow scopes/grenade launchers mounted on more guns than in vanilla
- Improves the graphics/light settings tremendously
- Allows free play after the game has been completed the right way
- Improves all sounds ranging from guns to ambient and monsters

It still keeps the main game the same however. Then theres an optional mini-addon to the Complete mod which makes the guns more realistic. I'd say that whoever intends playing any of the STALKER games as vanilla, should have Complete mod installed because it just makes it so much better while staying as the regular game. Of course theres tons of other mods which one can get but I honestly havent found love in them the same way I have with Complete mods.

Yesterday I tried to install STALKERSOUP (Narodnaya Solyanka) mod on to my second STALKER SoC install (retail version) while keeping Steam version as Complete mod. Didnt work out unfortunately. Which is why I think I will have to uninstall Complete (keeping save files tho) when Lost Alpha is released. Doubt I would be playing Complete anyways while LA is hot.

Do you guys have multiple mods or is that even possible on any SoC version? Asking this because to me it seems like people are switching mods faster than I change magazines in SoC.

As I understand it from what Tor told me some time ago way back when, you need to re-install SoC, patch it up, then install the mod of choice. Thats why I ran Complete for a couple months then switched to SmP 2.4

Combining two mods in Stalker requires some sort of hotfix in order to work properly as far as I remember; I have Arsenal mod in combination with Oblivion Lost and had to install a special patch.

No I dont want to have two mods mixed in together, I'd just want to be able to choose between which mod I would like to play. Like in any sensible game, BF2 for example... you can choose which mod to play with the shortcut. ;)

Sorry, misunderstood you; happens to me if read something in English and think in German sometimes :x
Unfortunately, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. never was userfriendly when it came to change something to it (which kept a lot of idiots away from playing it like a friend of mine who always died at the NPP of radiation).
I never changed mods on one system, always reinstalled the OS and gave S.T.A.L.K.E.R. another run later on. One thing I am not sure about is whether the gamedata directory exists before modding the game; that would make it easy to switch between two mods or more.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Flippy Warbear on 26-08-2012, 21:08:03
Yes I was thinking the same method yesterday when I was trying things out. Maybe I'll give it a try. Maybe its possible with just simply changing the Gamedata folder whenever you want to play some exact mod and make sure you dont use wrong save files. Yesterday I had the problem that STALKERSOUP would crash when I got to Load Game menu, mostly because it had "conflicting" saves in it.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 26-08-2012, 22:08:50
STALKERSOUP is not stable at all and kills my laptopt frequently :D I stopped playing it because it did not enhance the atmosphere either. Even Oblivion Lost has some things to it I don't like like the M134 Minigun. That doesn't fit at all into this game.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: :| Hi on 26-08-2012, 22:08:14
The M134 imho is kinda balanced. 7.62x51mm is kinda hard to find in more than 10-20. You usually use 20-30 rounds a burst so while you do beat the shit out of stuff, you lose ammo like crazy
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 26-08-2012, 22:08:08
In my Version you couldn't use the normal 7.62x51mm, you had to use the linked one made especially for the M134.
You couldn't hit anything with it but when it hit, it was deadly as hell. There was also a MG3 which had similar effect but with more accuracy. Problem was it had a gigantic recoil (a bit like a G43 on fullauto in FH2 combined with the firerate of the MG42).

STALKERSOUP is massive, it takes alot to install, alot to download and alot to learn and get used to it. It's a great mod, with some problematic bugs, save corruption, weird stuff, etc. But overall is a great mod, a very improved version of DMX DKZ.

I will never forget a massive firefight between Cordon Loners at the Village against the Military. The 2 patrol guys were shot by some Loners.. then the entire military outpost attacked us. Around 23:00, rain, nearly no lights at all. Me sitting on a window protecting the main entrance armed with a Shotgun, tons of loners fighting against the well equipped army guys, then two Helicopters joined the firefight and killed every single loner out there. The Village was then occupied by the army.

The battle was slow, sometimes i killed some soldiers and took their weapons and sold them to Sidorovich, with that money i could buy ammo for my Shotgun and bandages.

So i got a new Video Card for my birthday, to replace my old and reliable Nvidia 8600GT

I decided to give STALKERSOUP another try, game seems to run fine at high settings, which makes me kinda happy!. I quickly remembered, after making my way from the spawnpoint to Sidorovichs bunker, that i had to complete the famous "Cave Mission".

Fucked up thing, first, "Doctor", a well known character in STALKER series, gives you some medicine. The thing basically transports you to, a cave. Maybe it's a dream, maybe it's not.

It's not really a standard STALKER mission, you start in the cave and in front you, a bigass artifact. The thing gives you ALOT of superpowers, but it also gives you lots of Radiation. You need to store that artifact and give it to some guy at the end of the level. Also there's a backpack on the ground, inside theres a Minigun, an Exosuit, moar artifacts and ammo.

Fun begins? HELL NO. First the fucking thing spawns a bloodsucker RIGHT in your face, you got a minigun? Yes!, you have a chance? not really. Once you get rid of him, you have 2 ways. Both of them has Snorks, kill them pretty quickly.

But i've seen the most fucked up thing ever in STALKER, i decided to take the route on my left, a snork jumped into me but he was killed soon, but then.... i saw two snorks, one skeleton and here's what shocked me. A woman-like zombie that talks like a woman. Daaaamn, first i thought it was some sort of survivor, or female stalker... so i ignored her and opened fire on the damn snorks... but when that thing jumped on me, not even my minigun could save me!

I'm gonna skip the damn cave.

Or i'm gonna do it the fun way. Perhaps i'll spawn myself with some weapons and also some Duty NPCs to help me out. Thanks to the "Atlas Spawner" i can even revive dead companions!, or i'll spawn a Librarian and fight duel him with the mighty knife!.

Note: You lose your Minigun after you complete the Cave Mission  :'(

Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 30-12-2012, 16:12:49
Wow, so many questions :P It's a mix between a shooter and a RPG (you dont really choose your character, but it has elements of this genre). It's about a guy who wakes up and knows only one thing: He has to kill Strelok. That is for STALKER SoC. Good mods for Shadow of Chernobyl are Oblivion Lost and maybe the Arsenal mod if you cannot get enough weapons. Furthermore, Lost Alpha will be released somwhere 2013 I think. Difficult to say if it is a mod or a whole new game though. The second game, Clear Sky, is a pain to play if I am honest. The story could have been interesting but it's buggy, extremly annoying and frustrating at once. I only played it once and won due to a bug :P The third one, Call of Pripyat, concentrates on a field agent trying to find out what happened to an airborne mission that went out of control. Misery is a really good mod for that one that will get a major update soon. If you just need visual enhancements, there exists a mod named Complete for all three games.
Tasks you have to do are killing things, finding artifacts, exploring forgotten secret labs (really scary if you play it for the first time, I can tell you that), many others and then there is the main quest, but I wont spoil it for you.
I'll give you some advice about the gameplay but not too much because learning is part of the game: Map a shortcut for medkits and bandages that you will find quickly (F1, F2; When I played it for the first time I always opened the inventory to bandage me and in that time I got hit another time so that I had to redo all of it ;) )
Second tip: Dont waste ammunition; especially from early to mid game there might be some ammo problems: Go for the headshot if possible (On my first run, I was always low on ammo, made the game much more interesting :D ). Thats all for now; maybe I will add some things later on.

EDIT: I knew I forgot something very important: Save often on new slots, the game does not do that for you; it will save you a lot of frustration, trust me ;)

And play on harder difficulties to get most out of it.

Also, install Complete mod if you want to play vanilla of any STALKER game. Once you are done with that, then you can dive deep into mod world.

Clear Sky was good once you get into Limansk, which was a pretty intense and fun battle, the ending was bugged.

The CNPP mission was the biggest disappointment i ever had in a STALKER game, [SPOILER AHEAD]

Strelok was always bugged... i caught him off map and sniped him 8000 times with my Vintorez and the whole thing was bugged.

Plus the ending was like wtf, you get teleported back to the Swamps i think with tons of cash and the FN2000 and... ok?

CS had a good faction wars system, which was also kinda bugged but it was hella fun to stay in Yantar with a couple of Duty fellas by the factory's entrance and get rushed in the middle of night by Pseudodogs. Clear Sky also had one of the best areas i ever seen in a STALKER game, and that is Red Forest.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 30-12-2012, 19:12:12
SPOILER WARNING:
Yes, I won due to Strelok falling through concrete and getting blocked on NPP ground ;D The faction war was fun at first but got pretty emberassing after a short while. Limansk and the Red Forest were well made but especially Limansk reminded me of a full scale war that I don't want in STALKER. It was very hard to get some money and artifact hunting was rather unsucsessfull for me. I still had Sunrise suit for the last mission and every time a bullet hit me I was nearly dead. Made the gameplay harder but not better at all. The only thing that mattered there were the headshot skills. I had to drop the enemy before he could squeeze of one round ;) CoP was not as good as SoC but was a big improvement gameplay wise.

EDIT: I forgot: too much scripting for a STALKER game. Remember those (annoying) MG-Nests in the hospital? No chance of killing the gunner. He wasn't even attached to the gun. You had to wait for your stupid (invincible) comrade of Clear Sky to clear it with an RPG7. Problem was that one time I was too quick for them and waited directly near the MG to avoid any gun shots. I did but I was killed by this scripted RPG fire -.- Teamkilled in STALKER, thats kinda lame.

Post by: Valekk on 08-02-2013, 07:02:34
I'm probably a little late to this but if you're going to try out a Stalker game, don't use Complete.  It really is not vanilla anymore with it and actually makes the game much easier/casual.  Try Zone Reclamation Project(fixes bugs), absolute nature+structure(improved textures), shaders max, and weather overhaul to keep it as vanilla as possible for a first play through while also improving graphics.  For the 2nd playthrough you can try AMK or something to make the 2nd time different/more interesting.

Stalker is probably one of the best PC games out there and should really be experienced the way it was mean to be.

Edit:  I actually found out a lot of what I know about these mods in 4chan's /VG/, there's almost always a thread on the first page with lots of hardcore fans there and they've written several guides too.

The bests mods are indeed Russian, they lack translations but they're fucking awesome.

Fortunely we got stuff like STALKERSOUP, hardcore fans of STALKER will love this one, it's damn intense and its massive.

Game fucking wanna makes me stay in a safe place for the night, damn punishing, no geiger counter, no anomaly detector, no radiation protection, ammo is like gold, a good gun is like diamonds, everything looks dark, depressed, get shot and you're most likely dead, get caught by a bloodsucker and you will be his breakfast, find a chimera and you're his dinner, etc.

There's also a bunch of anomalies one doesn't know how they work, and some are too hard to see!, from nowhere BAM, a tornado or some weird looking plant coming out of nowhere kills you.

I don't know how large the game is actually, like how many missions does it have, but i started a long time ago and I'm still trying to find decent weaponry for the Agroprom Underground mission :/

Yeah, but sadly only when you get there for the first time. When I played it first, I really was scared to try it again, especially because I was on an all time low on ammo and meds. I did not even know that there were shortcuts for medkits ;D The AI is not that smart though, either you take the stairs to the right and they won't follow you because of some objects and an anomaly or you wait until the soldiers show up so that you save ammo for either them or the blood sucker.
Kills the magic moment of course :/

Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 12-06-2013, 23:06:45
No, it is this first underground level going to Agroprom. It contains Streloks base where you can meet the Doctor later on. X-16, X-9 or X-18 (I always mix them up) was also very good, the one with the poltergeists. Then there is the one at Jantar, also a great underground level, really scary. The brain scorcher itself was meh. I don't like big wars between monoliths and army.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 12-06-2013, 23:06:55
Especially those burning snorks and the loud metal rattling. And then those big, heavy steps from deep underneath you. Yeah, that was really well done.
I've got to say, although not the most powerfull ones, the blood suckers always were the most scariest ones. The most dangerous ones on open places are controllers but they always put them into buldings where you can easily kill them (F1 grenades do especially fine with that).
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: :| Hi on 13-06-2013, 00:06:42
X-18 is ok, but the very last lab of the game that had a shitton of bloodsuckers in it, fuck that. I might have gotten more because of playing with AmK 1.4, but IIRC I counted 14 dead bloodsuckers and 1000 less 7.62x51 rounds for my MG3.

Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 13-06-2013, 21:06:07
I never used the MG3 in the story line (when I played it with Oblivion Lost and Arsenal Mod). You always have to wear the exo and the ammo is too heavy and you don't have a good trader for it before and after Pripyat. ZM-LR 300 was pretty good, even too good maybe. I used the XM8 LMG most of the time and the FAMAS too. HK 417 was a great DMR for long range headshots.
In Vanilla, my favourite weapon always was the VSS Vintorez though.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: :| Hi on 14-06-2013, 02:06:52
Yeah, I always get to No.1 position on the leaderboards before I hit the second lab because I just go out and kill stuff. By then I usually have 2k of 5.45x39mm on me, 1k 5.56x45mm  and about 1k 7.62x39mm the last two types just stashed away. I usually keep all my ammo stashed at the bar.

Unless I am using an Uzi as my secondary, I'll keep about 50 9mm or .45 for fml moments. Any other ammunition types i.e. 7.62x51, 7.62x54mmR, and 7.62x25mm I keep stashed at the bar unless I am going to be hunting for awhile. I only bring the MG3 out when I decide to delve into the Red Forest, go into a lab, or go underground in general.

IIRC my favorite weapons to use were the LR-300 fully tricked out with an Uzi/Mac-10 as my secondary. I recall enjoying the PS90 Badaboom for bloodsucker killing too. It is a custom 20rd P90 that only fires buckshot, slow on automatic but it is great.

I always had an Uzi, a LR-300/Ak/M16, and the PS-90 with me, trading off whenever a certain ammo type would get low. Almost kind of like game seasons  ;) Low on AK ammo, grab NATO weapon and dick around in beginning area killing other stuff and bandits.

Tor also gave me this nasty habit of taking every single weapon and weapon variant I don't yet have into my collection. IIRC I'm somewhere in the realm of 64 stashed weapons on my main SHoC save.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: |7th|Nighthawk on 14-06-2013, 08:06:30
I would have to look up my stash too but I nearly got every weapon in every variant too and I was starting to collecting suits too ;D My stash is by the army barracks. Best secondary was the USP .45 but I prefer the M1911 for style and the Desert Eagle .50AE for hunting mutants with a secondary. The sounds were pretty beefy in that mod, if I recall right.
Did you ever try the SVD as battle rifle without scope and just a silencer on it? That is fun to use too.
Well, if you always go for the headshot, you always have too much ammo for every weapon. There should be an option to get less ammo, not for beginners of course. I never had enough but now it is like /sustainammo 1 for me and it kinda kills the atmosphere :/

STALKER bug bit me again. I have been playing SoC Complete a little but now I am downloading version 2 of MISERY for CoP.

I would also like to go back and try StalkerSoup but that seems like such a friggin hassle to install and I read it still crashes quite frequently.

But MISERY for now, see what thatis all about and if that fails, there is always Complete mod for CoP. More likely I'll just go back to SoC Complete if MISERY is not to my liking.

Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Flippy Warbear on 21-07-2013, 17:07:52
Would like to clarify that I was not actually downloading version 2 of MISERY since I misunderstood things. I downloaded the first version and "patch 2" instead since version 2 is not out until end of the month. I wasnt looking at things properly and thought patch 2 meant the same as version 2. But anyway, getting a good look at MISERY and I have to say that it is a nice change of pace especially since CoP isnt as good as SoC is. For me the decision is so easy when I wonder which STALKER Complete should I play, there is no real competition. So rather than replaying CoP complete, Im playing MISERY for some variety and so far the experience has been... miserable.  ;D

It seems like a solid mod. :)

Havent heard much of Cry of Zone (goddamn that stupid name) and Lost Alpha as of late. I hope they are still in development.

Lost Alpha is still in development. They always state that they develop but have problems with their site and don't upload much lately. It is not even a mod anymore so I don't know whether they keep posting on ModDB.

MISERY is ruthless. :(

You plan everything to the smallest detail and when you execute your move, it fucks you up by random pseudodog attack or a conveniently timed emission. Fuuuuuck youuuuu!

That said, I quite like it. But I wont be playing the story that much if the next version requires reinstall.

I always end up reinstalling CoP with any hardcore mod, to uninstall it like some weeks after I got bored with it. STALKER doesn't really have a good replayability, mainly for the fact that the multiplayer sucks or is well, dead and that STALKER is mainly solo.

MISERY continues to make lifes a complete misery by adding a whole new arsenal of features such as maintaining of your weapons, outfits and your health. I've spent more time at Skadovsk than actually out there in the zone since you just have to take care of sooooo many things and you cant just think that you'll manage with whatever you have. No!

Inventory management is huge, you need to have certain items with you at all times in order to survive. And the dirty balancing between wether you want to stay healthy and pay extra for pure healthy food and for medicines or do you much rather just keep your stomach filled with whatever crap you can find and shrug the pain away with drugs such as cocaine?

Decisions, decisions. MISERY is a mod that gives the player no mercy, no hand holding and is just so difficult that even it is sometimes frustrating as hell, it is still a very compelling experience. The feeling is top notch, never have I've been on my toes in previous Call of Pripyat experiences like this. MISERY is unforgiving, but it teaches you through your mistakes.

It didnt take me long to realise that avoiding pools of water is actually a good idea because the splashes of water can be loud and mutants (or sinister STALKERs) can hear it from distances away.

So is life in the Zone. I recommend for anyone who has Call of Pripyat to give it a try, it might not be your thing because it is extremely difficult and you cant play it as casual as you might be used to playing the game but it is still a helluva good experience.

So this was my first time really trying to play Stalker (Tried before with Shadow of Chernobyl + Complete in my old rig, fps lower than 5) and because i wanted something different and hard to me play i started already with this Pripyat+Misery 2 Combo ( Derp  :P ), made a save with the USS Assalter first to learn the controls, run i little and found that out that this class didn´t meet what  i want of gameplay, also i aways choose the assault/soldier way of gamplay, then i made the save with that I'll actually play, choose the USS Sniper and begun.

Spawned in a swamp for my luck, and managed to pass through some mutated animals and dogs (heard to avoid them at any cost) and when i was getting out of the swamp i was like "Yeah! finally out of this muddy creepy mutant infested swamp, nothing bad can happen now" of nowhere appeared a crater in the ground where I slipped, it was very fucking dark inside, i could´t see nothing inside. Then i saw i lighting approaching me and thought it was someone, so i drew my Mosin-Nagant i waited, it was a flying light/ flame who chased me to death (I burned, I do not know), and to finish me my body was dragged to a vortex who imploded my body into pieces. WTF?!  :o I liked my start in this game.

Besides that i found the atmosphere of the game really immersive, it really call your attention, and makes me think as if I was there. It has more immersion that many games today.

EDIT: Also, what is Enter the Zone(Black Road)???

If I were you I would first play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. Gives you some hints on the story and they allude to they allude to it pretty often. Plus, it is even better in terms of immersion in my opinion although gameplaywise they improved one thing or two in CoP.

Last year while I was halfway through CoP somehow Steam/Stalker didn't start up anymore. So since I'm doing a windows re-install anyway this week, I decided I want to finally finish it. Problem is: I have never backed up STALKER savegames before (I don't even know where they are on my PC), and have no experience with using older savegames in a new install.

Any tips?

So, you did not uninstall S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? They should be under "Documents" iirc. So, after reinstall, you just put them in the same directory again. There is not much to do wrong.

Yantar is awesome, but the original Yantar was going to be amazing.... but they gave us this little area :/

In my stalkersoup game, according to the PDA, I murdered a few Loners and now I'm hostile to the entire Loners faction (which shouldn't be a faction but yeah), now I know how it feels being a bandit with friends on Freedom and Duty.

I live in the bar, worst place possible with all the loners in there. At night time, I sneak up towards a small building next to the arena where a faction called the "Hunters" live (And the guy that saves your life at the start of the game sleeps in the floor, I shouldn't wake him up as he is a loner), there I make deals with a guy who wants Gravi artefacts for antirads (So rare, I run absolut vodka, I don't have antirads). My weapons stash is in the bar itself full of hostiles around, good thing I stored my ammo in Duty's base, behind Voronin.

I love sneaking, I escaped from X-18 sneaking, now I will steal the military documents from the southern outpost at night by sneaking, but there is a BTR-60 guarding the door and the damn thing is always pointing at me.

Even without enemies. These evacuated buildings, once filled with people, workers or scientists maybe, just give me the chills all the time. I always try to picture the complex when it was occupied. Same for the rest of the area.
Chernobyl always fascinated me, I don't know why. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and CoD 4 SP (Stealth mission) just encouraged this further.
I really would like to visit it although I fear it might be looked upon as kind of voyeurism?

Any recommendations on really good mods? I know this question has been asked alot but maybe someone might want to share new insights.

Also, this "Priboi story" mod that even changes the main character, is it worth downloading?

So, I've been thinking of re-installing Call of Pripyat. Do you guys have any recommendations for mods? I know of Stalker Complete but I've heard that it is quite overrated and adds more nuisances than improvements. Graphical fidelity doesn't matter, as I won't be able to run it above low anyway. The last time I played, I seem to recall that I was a bit disappointed on how the guns handled (mainly being rather inaccurate). So something that adds realism and immersion would be cool.

You could try Misery 2.0

http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-misery/downloads

I did not have the chance to play 2.0 but I played 1.0 and enjoyed it. It makes the CoP zone a bit more dangerous and immersive (Vanilla lacks a bit atmosphere and fear SoC had imo).
As of other mods for CoP, I don't know. I loved the handy commands CoP had and some of the levels but I always felt it lacked the certain S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC thing, that keeps me replaying the first one ;D (It is still a pretty good game, especially way better then Clear Sky).

There's definitely signs of work-in-progress such as missing or incomplete features and of course numerous crash-to-desktop bugs. One thing I noticed is that it seems far more linear than Shadow of Chernobyl is, but then again it might be because theres several places you can go to from each area, not just one or two at a time. Many places I try go to automatically sends me back to where I came from as if the game doesnt want me to go there yet. Which is a darn shame considering they have made all these goddamn beautiful revamps of the areas and completely new areas to fill in gaps and you cant freely go explore them until the game wants you to.

I guess I never tried to go directly to Dark Valley from Garbage in SoC so I dont know/remember if you can actually do that in it or not, but in LA it seems more on rails. Not that its exactly a bad thing, you are still free to roam the areas you do get to go and you have no sense of urgency on doing anything in a rush.

Graphic enhancements are simply amazing. It looks so fantastic when you find a good medium in the settings that your PC wont get as heavily tanked, game runs smooth and still looks breathtaking.

So far I've felt like I am playing a new STALKER title, not just a mod, but a new game. I dont really mind the fact that its the same story of a game I've already played million times and that its the same areas and in some cases missions that I go through, the changes are so big that it makes me feel like I am not playing a mod.

This is something that every STALKER should experience and it doesnt matter if you have Shadow of Chernobyl or not, you can download Lost Alpha for free and play it without any official STALKER games since the mod is a standalone. If you can live with the fact that it is not completely finished and you will encounter crash bugs and other bugs (hey, this is STALKER, theres bound to be bugs, right?), then I dont see a reason why you should give this one a pass, otherwise you'd be an ass.

Highly recommending it and I cant wait for my next venture into the Zone. I am still far off from finishing it but I cant wait to dwell in again.

SoC was my favourite anyway. I was not too fond of CS (it had some nice levels but gameplay sucked imo.) and CoP was more player friendly and open. Still, the best atmosphere was achieved in the first one and if you say it captures this atmosphere and enhances it, I can't see why I shouldn't try it :)

Aaaaand its gone. Yesterday (sunday 28th of May 2017) they had a livestream where they spoke about Ray of Hope. And it was revealed that it will infact not let it's players to host their own servers, but the team will provide their own.

You can read about it on their moddb page here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/ray-of-hope-multiplayer/news/streaming-session-finished-changes-in-coop-statement/

I am very disappointed since I was looking forward to Ray of Hope with both singleplayer open world sandbox in mind but also Coop with a couple of friends. Now this wont be possible since they thought having their own servers is a better idea. Super disappointing. If I wanted to play STALKER deathmatch, I'd play it's own multiplayer.

Would you recommend it to someone who isn't big on freeplay mods? Usually I find that there's not much to do in them and lose interest quickly.

I think Call of Chernobyl can be worth your time even if you arent into the freeplay idea. There is a story mode included which I personally have never touched, along with couple of other game modes as well so it is not "just" freeplay. Definitely if you will go for CoC thought, you are best out when you get yourself some addons to spice it up. Popular addons such as Arsenal Overhaul, Outfit addon and Smurths Dynamic HUD are ones that I run with. Call of Misery is also a popular addon which needs an older version of CoC so I havent tried it out (yet). So if you were into Misery and wanted to have that experience for more than just the regular three Call of Pripyat areas, now you can experience it.

There are mini missions in the regular Call of Chernobyl gamemode as well which gives you a reason to explore the Zone all out but these are some times a bit of a pain in the neck to get sorted and I've ran into situations when I cannot complete them for unknown reasons. However, the regular gamemode does focus on the freeplay aspect. CoC on its own without addons is fine but I highly suggest you get some addons to run with it to make it more interesting and if you are like me and you do multiple characters on different factions, it makes it more varied when it comes to how to gear your character out.

I am propably the wrong person to ask wether I'd recommend the mod for someone who isnt into freeplay that much. I personally thought freeplay was the best aspect of any STALKER game. Sure I liked the stories too but I liked it when after completing the game I could just go on about my own business in the Zone. And since CoC is all about the freeplay, thats right down my alley. There is a high risk that you would not like CoC if you arent into freeplay. You can minimize the "not much to do" factor by getting yourself addons which should make things more interesting, but it would propably not make a huge difference in the long run.

However, if you are interested in trying out CoC and want to have some tips for addons I use, heres the addons page where you can get all addons for it:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons

List of addons I play CoC with:
- Arsenal Overhaul  http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons/arsenal-overhaul
- Increased weapon damage for Arsenal Overhaul http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons/pavolpi
- Outfit Addon http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons/outfit-addon-coc
- Dynamic Faction Relations http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons/doctorx-dynamic-faction-relations
- Dynamic HUD http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl/addons/smurths-dynamic-hudv2151410aoowrstcopoa
- Russian Audio (Makes all characters and radios and such speak russian, sorry I dont have a link to this anymore)

CoC and some of the addons included in that list (mainly Dynamic HUD) lets you to tailor your gameplay quite freely, wether you want emissions to happen or not, how often they happen, do you want longer repair times, do you want helicopter patrols etc etc. You can tailor your CoC experience quite freely and make it as hard or as easy as you like. Wether this makes it more interesting to your or not and keeps you interested in it is something I of course cannot guarantee or even predict.

But if you have Call of Pripyat (which btw you dont need to have installed, CoC is kinda standalone...) and you have a decent internet connection, why not give it a go? Try it out as regular CoC and if you see any sort of potential in it, explore the wonderful world of addons, wether it be simple weapon addon or something as big as Call of Misery.

I personally have enjoyed CoC tremendously and I personally think that to a STALKER vet like myself, it is a perfect mod when you dont care about doing the same story over and over. Now you can make your own STALKER and have him your own story, if you are into RP stuff.  ;)

Yeah, last time I played Stalker seriously was Stalkersoup, which ended up totally glitched, that was a year ago or so.

Fast forward a couple of months, my GPU died. A few weeks ago I got a complete new rig (i7 770K, 16gb RAM) but I still dont have a GPU, so I'm running with i7's integrated.., I'll probably get a 1080Ti by mid-August, it will be then when I finally make my glorious return to the zone, stalker.

I was wrong when I said the last time I played Stalker was in STALKERSOUP, it was actually Misery and I remember it very well.

Schevchenko, some loner dude was shooting at boars, loner went missing moments later, I was sitting near the ship's command brigde looking at the whole situation when I heard some heavy breathing, which wasn't mine. Turned around to see that creepy humanoid figure with the shiny white eyes running straight at me.

Absolutely 0 chance survive, Makarov not good enough.

That was it.

I personally have enjoyed CoC tremendously and I personally think that to a STALKER vet like myself, it is a perfect mod when you dont care about doing the same story over and over. Now you can make your own STALKER and have him your own story, if you are into RP stuff.  ;)

Thank you for your in-depth reply. I will definately try it out, since judging from what you're saying CoC seems to be more fleshed out than most freeplay mods. Apparently it includes new maps and beta maps, which is always a plus. Besides, I've always wanted to play as Clear Sky (as an actual member, not a mercenary)  or Monolith. I'm not sure how far my playthrough will go though; I'm not really into RP and, given that it's been 5 years or so since I last played CoP, I might end up switching over to good old Atmosphere + Absolute Nature.

CoC includes

- All ShoC, CS and CoP maps (including all undergrounds and Limansk hospital).
- Cut content such as Dead City, Generators and Darkscape.
- Brand new map called Truck Cemetery.

-

I recently started a new playthrough as the Mercenary which I've played through... maybe 5 or 6 times by now... heh, dont ask me why, I just find Mercs appealing to me. I have previously played through as Monolith and Bandit as well. Altho, I dont know how you define as a "playthrough" when it is only freeplay without any real goals or end. Heh, I guess the playthrough ends when you stop playing. :)

Usually my playthoughs end when there is a new version of the mod and they pretty much always require a fresh start.

So yeah I got a new GPU and I'm ready to dive straight into my old love, Stalker.

First thing I did was to get CoC, with Arsenal Overhaul, Dynamic HUD, Outfits Addon, Dynamic Factions, Dynamic Anomalies and a few more. I don't have the latest version as it seems it's still beta and most addons are not compatible as of now, so I'm using 1.4.22.

Can you switch factions in mid game?, I'm really interested in a Bandit character..., because it reminds me of that time in STALKERSOUP in which I turned the entire Loner faction Hostile for some reason, and it was AWESOME!, but will probably switch to Loners if possible.

Sneaky cheeki breeki bastard.

 - - -

Quick run and I've already had my Stalker moments. Random spawn as Loner took me to Pripyat itself, to that apartment where the big green anomaly moves around (Don't blame me, never been to Pripyat before, never actually completed CoP at all). Went down to find a couple of Loners with an Ecologist or something, walked around for less than 15 minutes when someone opened fire on us. I got hit, I completely forgot this game had bleeding and I almost died, I went for cover and patched myself up. Weather was bad so I only saw the flashes from the guns, the squad moved up a little and I "supported" them for afar with my Makarov, very clever Dimitri.

I was badly wounded, the firefight goes on and I move up a bit, to a bus. I received a message, something about "He's wounded, kill him!" and the Squad moves up to a wounded man laying in the middle of the street. I get closer to the now dead Monolith, looted his half-broken G36 and some ammo. I proceed on my own, leaving that squad behind. In front of me appears to be a mall of some sort, move to the left to find an empty building... slowly making my way, scanning the inside for possible flashlights indicating humans, but I saw something by the window, memories came rushing back, memories of total darkness and two small white dots floating around, I froze..

(zoom in)

I know what it was, a STALKER vet like myself would immediately recognize these things as eyes, and eyes look, despite all my years playing this game I was still dead frozen, staring at it, was it staring back? was I spotted?, I didn't make any sound, I was just walking, thinking that Monoliths were inside so I was making sure to be as stealthy as possible. He didn't spot me, I raised my G36, aimed carefully to have a better look, to confirm if it was what I think it was. It was. Pulled the trigger, blood, the thing dropped. Turned back, ran as fast as I could to the street where the dead monolith was, my hard was beating fast (really), I felt insecure, I felt someone was watching me, I scanned my surroundings, pointing my gun at every possible place from where a thing would come rushing at me, fired a couple of shots at the building from about 100m, don't know why, but I did it anyways.

Closed the game, gotta to go bed, but before I had to share my little story.

Oh STALKER, I fucking love you so much. Less than 10 minutes of gameplay and I already had two bits to tell, not a big deal you see, but this is MY little bit of a story to tell.

This game is a fucking masterpiece, excuse the language.

Haha, close enough and very fitting ;D

It's from Call of Misery with some really nicely done gun mod (I don't remember the name). I ran across him three times in three different areas so I decided to take him as a companion - just because of the name and that chance.

Up to this day he's following me:

Sometimes he decided he does not want the PKP anymore and grabs his old Mosin instead:

It's too bad that the AI in that mod seems to be broken at times and especially the companions are retarded as hell so that I had to make them unkillable. I wish they would fix that and also enable something like in Fallout games where your companions can get knocked out without dieing in a fight, stopping them from being OP but also compensatin for their recklessness a bit.

What really surprises me is how good the game still looks despite it's age - and despite my shitty 2012 HP business laptop with an atrocious graphics card.

Hm, might be worth a shot but I do like the difficulty CoM brings especially at the beginning. Firefights are incredibly deadly when you have no armour. On the plus side, so don't a lot of enemies so it's really tense but not unfair. Getting any good money and weaponry is super hard though because most of the stuff is way too expensive at the start and all of the weaponry you find is broken to the point where it jams a lot.
One thing I did not like about CoM is that artifacts are dirt cheap so it's not even worth doing missions to get them. I used a mod which upped their prices a little so that it was worth getting irradiated to hell in an anomaly field. This obviously made the game easier and progress faster so it's maybe kind of a cheat. You can up the difficulty by only being able to save at campfires though which is something I also disabled even though it might add to the experience. Knowing full well that I sometimes get odd FPS drops on my poor laptop and that the game sometimes decides to spaz out, I like to be able to save often.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for me has the perfect atmosphere. It has a tiny bit of horror here and there but it's less of the scary and more of the creepy kind - if that makes sense. Plus I find all the desolated area to be the game's biggest plus and it's always nice when you return to a base where everyone sits around campfires and relaxes a bit, like here:

What a masterpiece this game is. I follow it blindly, I don't care how terrible it can be sometimes, every minute spent on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a well spent minute.

I'll reinstall windows soon and I'll give Call of Misery a go, or perhaps the Last Day addon to see what it's like...

But yes, I fully agree Stalker lives on it's atmosphere. I play with everything disabled almost, literally no HUD at all. So I don't know if I'm being seen, and man the game became 100 times more scarier. Hell, even taking a long walk in a foggy rain in Cordon makes me crap my pants from time to time.

Yes, for all of it's faults it's still a gem. The only one I am not too keen on replaying is Clear Sky though. The faction wars were a nice idea but it was such a hassle to keep up with. Apparently Fallout 4 has a similar problem ;D
I remember getting to the final mission with the sunrise suit because that part where they explained to you how to get artifacts I apparently missed. Since everything else was dirt cheap to sell and extremely expensive to buy, I could not afford much and thus the game became super hard. I also had trouble to stop Strelok in time because every hit by the Monolith guys nearly killed me and had me patching me up instead of shooting him.
It's a bit peculiar that I won this game only by Strelok falling through those gangways which had him get stuck so that it was an easy kill for me.

The third one was the most well rounded one in my opinion. It had generally more freedom, explanation and polish but the world lost a bit of that dense melancholic atmosphere that especially Shadow of Chernobyl had in my book.

It's a bit funny that none of the characters in the game really stand out except for their meme lines that everyone knows.

I have been playing some ANOMALY for the last couple of hours, very recommended indeed!

The author keeps the mod up to date and releases patches very often, and even listens to people at the Moddb site.

The game?, well it looks very good and it plays very good. It's very similar to Misery and Call of Misery.

And even after all of this I'm still trying to clean up the car park in Cordon from bandits... the game just took a big dump in my almost decade long STALKER experience... I'm just having one of the most intense firefights I ever had in my Stalker experience. I'm getting schooled by them, I'm not entirely sure if they're using actual tactics or what but I often find myself engaging a big group of bandits and one of them sneaks up from behind and fills my back with lead...

I tried sneaking into the Car park, but in the firefight I was attacked literally from all sides, completely pinned down behind a rock.

Oh you Stalker...

I think CoC/Anomaly/Last Day/Whatever offer the most realistic experience. It has nothing to do with shooting mechanics, the survival aspect, the AI, no. You're just a stalker, pretty much on your own. You're no hero, you're no Strelok, you're no Merc or Major disabling powerful Psi-emitters, taking down pretty much the entire Monolith faction or making your way to a ghost city taking down hordes of Monolith fags.

You're (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE), a lone guy trying to make a living in the zone. It's open to you, you don't have an actual goal, you just go around talking to other stalkers, asking them if they need help.

If the Zone was real, it would probably be like that. Common loners doing various missions, earning their cash working pretty hard. You'll have factions fighting for territory and mutants hunting down the remains or lone stalkers. And you fit into any of those, maybe you'll like to be a cheeki breeki adidas lover robbing loners or some rock fanatic helping your faction take over the entire zone...

Well, you can be the hero and disable the "Miracle Machine", you have some sort of "Story Mode" but it's optional.

Still, I had a mission at the Truck Cemetery, a new area. I had two contracts to kill two stalkers right there. As soon as I got there, under the rain, one of my targets was killed in a firefight with the military. I still had one guy left to kill, so I slowly made my way into the cemetery. It was filled with old trucks and vehicles, some of them with radiation. I encountered a party of Zombified stalkers chilling around, all armed with shitty sawed-off shotguns and Makarovs. I dispatched them with my near broken silenced AEK-971. I looked around for a good place to stay while the storm passes.

I saw a big tower, you know the very same towers that you'll find scattered around in the Great Swamps. So I sneaked into one of those, avoiding another party of zombified stalkers mixed with actual zombies. I had a fantastic view from up there, scanning the horizon I quickly spotted the glow of a campfire about 250 meters from my position, a pack of Boars, a group of Fleshes and two creatures.

These guys are called Lurkers I think, they're a chimera-like monster, they run very fast, they jump but unlike a chimera, they don't deal a lot of damage nor have a lot of health. These two guys were chasing off a boar, from the safety of my tower I was able to watch the new mutant working, I'm not sure if he killed the boar or not, but he passed twice next to my tower without seeing me, or maybe he did, I dunno, I don't have any indicators in my HUD anymore. While watching the local mutants do shit, my target was killed by a flesh. Damn.

Well, that was enough for me. I decided to pack my things up and leave before the emission that was going to happen in a few hours, according to the PDA. When I got to the stairs I heard that dreadful sound. I couldn't see him, but that's always his intention.

I rushed back upstairs and took out my MP-133 shotgun, and the waiting game began. A few minutes after, the monster ran into some anomaly and died. Welp. That was my very first encounter with a Bloodsucker in Anomaly so far, good thing it ended in a spectacular way for me. I haven't had the chance to meet more still, I've been to Cordon, Great Swamps, Dark Valley (Apparently a bandit killed one according to PDA messages), Meadows (new area, very small but fun imo), Garbage (saw a Lurker, a Snork and a Burer, pretty high tier for a southern area), Rostok, Truck Cemetery and Army Warehouses so far... I wonder how many high tier mutants would you encounter up north, in places like Pripyat.

I like Anomaly. It's not super hardcore, yet it's still a challenge. It's a good mix between realism and fun.

I haven't played much of Dead Air yet, it seems that it needs a lot of work, especially because the mod is confused on what the developers are trying to achieve...

Hey Torenico,

since you've played them all, which one do you recommend to play? I've enjoyed CoM quite a bit so far and I've been thinking of picking up Last Day next. Is it as free? I've heared that Dead Air e.g. takes away quite a bit of choice when it comes to faction and balancing which is something I find a bit frustrating to say the least. I dislike degrading artifacts and they stated it was a hard factor in their mod.
Maybe I should consider Anomaly as well.

If you look up the Dead Air Mod DB site, you'll find a lot of comments about bugs. That and the aforementioned cutbacks on customization kinda put me off of it and it's too bad that they stopped working on CoM.
Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Torenico on 13-08-2018, 17:08:51
I actually haven't played any of those. I did play CoC with addons but it kept crashing, gave up and moved into something else..

Sometime after I found the news about Dead Air in r/Stalker, when I was looking at it I also saw a post about Anomaly.

I downloaded both of them. Played anomaly, loved it at first sight, played Dead Air but I fucked up the translation, never bothered to fix it and I was conditioned by the negative reviews and critics of shitty gameplay elements...

When they get their shit together I will give it a go. So far, Anomaly is all I want. It's stable (it's actually 64bit), crashes once every week (human weeks..!) and it's a lot of fun, the mod author is very present (he's taking a break right now) and keeps the mod updated.

I've had only two crashes so far, no big bugs either. I can't speak for the other mods. Anomaly is the one to go if you want a more "hardcore" Misery-like experience with sandbox gameplay.

Ah alright. Odd, CoM has been running very stable for me and it is based on CoC. Alas my laptop sometimes dislike when there's too much stuff to load (like in the truck cemetery or the swamps) and I get the occasional frame drops.

I think I'll also skip Dead Air for a bit for the very same reasons as you. I would argue that the dev, while having a vision for that mod, kinda dropped what made CoC/CoM intriguing in the first place.

Do you have as much choice in Anomaly? I read your description of the events and also saw that new mutant. Now I have to wonder: Almost every mod that added new mutants felt unfinished to me. The zombies and even the Izhloms are cut content and mostly fine but already the cats feel highly unfinished and break the immersion (oh and they are OP as hell in a lot of mods. I think OGSE made them the grim reaper of the zone) for an example. That lurker thing at least does not look too wonky but are there other new mutants?

I could not find a content description on the ModdB site, do you happen to know if one exists? I would love to compare it to CoM.

I think my most respected mutant will always be the bloodsucker. There are way more dangerous ones like the Chimera and the Controller but the bloodsucker was the first scary one I encountered in Shadow of Chernobyl and to this day it's combat technique makes you dart around anxiously while trying to predict it's next angle of attack.

Title: Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Post by: Torenico on 18-08-2018, 16:08:04
You can try Dead Air, maybe with the correct tweaks (which you can find in the addons page at moddb) it'll become "tolerable" or whatever. But it doesn't seem to have the same freedom of choice as the other mods. There's some BS like a pack of mutants rushing at you from the other side of the map just to kill you, making the game a bit artificially difficult.

As for the choice in Anomaly, well, yes, it's a Sandbox game. You can travel around the zone while being part of any faction you want (except zombified of course heh), except all the areas to the north of Yantar-Radar, someone turned the Miracle Machine and the Brain Scorcher on again, you can choose to deactivate them if you play in in "Story Mode". But as for freedom yes, it's very sandbox-ish.

The new mutant I saw was pretty convincing, it did blend in with the zone quite well IMO, the animations seem to be borrowed from the Chimera, as I kinda consider the Lurker a "baby Chimera" of some sort. As for the other ones, well, they remain unchanged, Animations are not Stalker's strongest point, while the gun reload animations are much much better now (you know how AWFUL vanilla's reload anims are..., too fast and completely out of sync), the other animations, especially those regarding mutants, other stalkers and 3rd person, are still the same.

As for the description, well, I couldn't find one either. It's like a heavily modded vanilla CoC running on a 64bit engine. I haven't played COM (My only experience was with Misery a couple of years ago), but I suspect it's pretty hardcore-ish. While Anomaly has some hardcore elements, it's a bit more arcadey. I'm sitting on a decent amount of rubles and I have one week in the zone so far, so I can pay for my food without problems and I can afford a Sunrise suit to replace with totally destroyed Overcoat. You can turn on things like Hardcore Economy (which I haven't had enough time to test, I had it turned off for the most part of my playthrough) and stuff like Hardcore AI Aim which would attempt to fix the horrendous AI aiming..

As for the Bloodsucker, I agree. I shit my pants whenever I hear one, it may not be the strongest (I like how CoP buffed them with that "kiss" they do) but it is certainly the most scary.

Chimeras might be the strongest, a lot of health and a lot of damage, combined with the ability to ambush you out of nowhere.

I must say I love the variety of mutants in Stalker. You have the invisible guy, the dwarf guy that shoots heat, throws stuff at you and created a barrier which stops bullets, the flying electricity ball that throws shit at you, the guy that fries your brain and has that very unique attack which literally blows your mind and so on...

Hmm, yeah, having no way to customize stuff in the menu anymore (like degrading artifacts) is just unnecessary in my opinion. If the author thinks that it's important for the experience, just propose it to people instead of shoving it down their throats. Just reading that you could not disable stuff like that already made it uninteresting for me. Artifacts are already annoying to grab in Call of Misery when you're a low level character and since mutants have a chance of showing up a bit everywhere, you get mauled often enough without scripted crap happening. Besides, the randomness is what makes it more immersive. If I want scripted events, I'll play Call of Duty.

Yes, sounds like in Call of Chernobyl or Call of Misery. I'm playing Last Day at the moment which is a "hardcore" variant of Call of Misery. I instantly went ahead and made the character run faster because nothing says "hardcore" as much as a guy who cannot outrun a snail. I get that they wanted to nerf the speed so that you cannot outrun a pack of dogs anymore but if you have to cross a few levels, having slow run speed is just utterly painful.

Lol yes, unconsistens especially in Shadow of Chernobyl. I remember the LR 300 having an okay reload (although he pulled on the forward assist instead of charging handle) while the AK-74 had a very wooden looking animation and the MP5 had a built in quick fingers perk. I think the StCoP-Weapon pack is to thank for the good models and animations. Almost every CoC-Variant includes it. The mutant animations are mostly fine but the 3rd person animations of humans are where the game sometimes breaks immersion. Especially with running characters; it looks like they were inspired by anime.

Ah, so that's what Hardcore Aim does. I find the AI aiming to be all over the place. Sometimes you stand right in front of them and they will miss, sometimes they will snipe you dead on what feels like over a mile.

Yes, they were buffed in CoP but they were not nearly as scary there because they did not show up in as creepy locations. The only time I found them scary was in the swamps where they could vanish in the reed but show up as footsteps in the water a few moments later.

Yes, Chimeras are often one hit kills but they behave more like snorks on crack - and snorks look definitely more creepy. I remember the Chimera kill mission in CoP. I just waited on those derelict containers and blasted it with an RPG when it arrived. Not very sportsman like but very efficient.

Yes, and they all have quite unique AI as well, especially for the time. I like how you can chase away a pack of dogs if you manage to kill the alpha male or when flesh sometimes will just flee or attack you, depending on the "Hunger" they have. Also little stuff like dogs pulling away dead bodies so that they can eat them is cool.

The "loot body" animations in this mod are annoying and I hope that I can turn them off with a mod since I did not find an option to do so in the menu. It was clearly possible since CoM had it as an option:

The AI here was quite unforgiving. I did not instantly shoot because I was not sure whether they were bandits or loners. I also need to find out how to get the original SoC music back into the levels. Mooze's soundtrack is still way better than any modded ambient.
