Excellent idea, WoT has something like that if you don't want to see pink KV-2s or "Gamescom 2018" camouflaged T-54s. If you can implement choice without impeding the experience of the other players, you should be doing so, especially if you're just trying to sell your game instead of teaching everyone a lesson.

@jan_kurator: Sorry, I missed the "but". Thanks for clarifying.

@Slayer: Yes, the artillery is teamwork for sure but I feel that, despite or maybe because the veteran player base, there are a lot of (very good) lone wolfs that mop the floor with the irregulars or newcomers and most teamplay feels unrewarding. The only rewarding moment for the Squad Leader is to be the best squad, usually with the SL having half of the points of the best guy in the squad since he has to be careful. Since the full sized rifles are 1hk and a soldier has more than enough ammo on him, ammo that you can only replenish by finding boxes or trucks, there's really no need to work in a squad except for an extra spawn point or "fast cap" reinforcements. You cannot be revived, you cannot be rearmed and rarely will you find a guy that will repair your tank. The best players at the end of the round are usually the ones who know how to handle a tank or a plane (I vividly remember FH|Fairplayer in his Typhoon on Totalize or the King Tiger drivers on Eppelsdorf), stuff that you don't need much teamplay to be good with.

@LuckyOne: Yes, especially when you use them as intended with a full squad and you get caught by an AT rifle or gun, you just lost a bunch of tickets and propelled the lucky killer on first place :P

What about removing the mini map entirely and only leaving the "big" map? I take it that it would result in massive team killing or why is it still here with all the other HUD elements gone?

I'm fully aware that without the Africa maps, this mod would not be where it is at but I find most of the maps to be an unenjoyable grind fest, especially on a full server. As I've said, I'm in the minority on this one and I should clarify that the mini map icon definitely is not game breaking for me, otherwise I would not occasionally come back to play a few games.

Yes, a nicely timed combined attack is something I've seen maybe once or twice in over five years of playing this mod (mind you, not as regularly as most of the players here). In contrast to a mod like PR, there's almost no incentive to work as a team except for driving a vehicle as bow gunner or spotting for artillery. The Squad Leader serves no other function than to be a mobile spawn, a role I regularly take because I'm not a super active player to begin with so sitting back and sniping off enemies fits this style. That or sitting in a bush without moving to create a flanking spawn. The fact that first aid and ammo kits plus revive function for infantry were taken out of the mod for understandable reasons (unstoppable zombie squads) just reinforces that. The SL is just a spawn point from which the squad mates just rush to the next flag without coordination, die, respawn, rinse and repeat. The moment someone has made it past the defenses, everyone leaves your squad to spawn on the sneaky new squad leader anyway. The fact that there are a handful of "real" squad leaders that manage to create a dynamic by using VOIP and being fun in general does not change the overall feeling for me. Not that FH should take the vBF2 mechanics but those managed to make random people cooperate okay to win a match even if noone used VOIP.
That last guy who remains in the vehicle doing nothing at all would be the SL then since if he dies, he stops serving any purpose ;D

TL;DR: I don't think the teamwork Slayer mentioned is often in effect on a public server with randoms.

Sounds like a good idea that would also greatly reduce the amount of teamkilling. Locking civilian cars seem odd though. How would you "balance" them between the teams then? Oh, so you can see when a flag is contested?

No need to get cranky. I don't care for the Africa maps and at one point a lot of maps got blessed with that game mode, including Falaise Pocket, after which my enjoyment for this mod dropped a little. I'll be more precise: Most of the maps I enjoyed got a change for the worse -> in my opinion <-. I'm probably alone with this opinion as many people still enjoy your mod just as much as on day one so it's completely fine to keep it that way.

I'm talking about the old ones you turned into sector push - like Cobra. I appreciate the idea of more people on one flag but I don't like the result.
One map on which it works particularly well though is Hurtgen.

I don't think it's a dumb tactic if you can use the element of surprise to your advantage. Rushing into static defense is a dumb tactic though and more often than not the only choice on Sector Push. As you have said yourself, the game is quite 'gamey' and the troll tactics, at least in my opinion, make it more fun. I miss the big conquest maps. Sure, it was annoying when some random Schwimmwagen managed to cap back a flag on Operation Cobra, but it made the map way more enjoyable even for a losing team and let's face it: Teams get stacked quite regularly so that one sided constantly loses. Most Conquest maps are Sector Push now, Kübelschrecking and Bazookajeeps have been removed, the Calliope Jeep has been castrated, the Wasp takes incredible amounts of damage by just driving to the front and the rocket launchers are iffy as hell so I'd definitely argue for a change that enables goofy tactics. There's nothing remotely immersive in FH2 except for the art work that you would have to preserve by making those tactics useless.

I agree though, it's just the vBF2 way of showing empty vehicles that are not team locked. Making them completely invisible on the map would probably lead to some frustration as well.

Ah alright. Odd, CoM has been running very stable for me and it is based on CoC. Alas my laptop sometimes dislike when there's too much stuff to load (like in the truck cemetery or the swamps) and I get the occasional frame drops.

I think I'll also skip Dead Air for a bit for the very same reasons as you. I would argue that the dev, while having a vision for that mod, kinda dropped what made CoC/CoM intriguing in the first place.

Do you have as much choice in Anomaly? I read your description of the events and also saw that new mutant. Now I have to wonder: Almost every mod that added new mutants felt unfinished to me. The zombies and even the Izhloms are cut content and mostly fine but already the cats feel highly unfinished and break the immersion (oh and they are OP as hell in a lot of mods. I think OGSE made them the grim reaper of the zone) for an example. That lurker thing at least does not look too wonky but are there other new mutants?

I could not find a content description on the ModdB site, do you happen to know if one exists? I would love to compare it to CoM.

I think my most respected mutant will always be the bloodsucker. There are way more dangerous ones like the Chimera and the Controller but the bloodsucker was the first scary one I encountered in Shadow of Chernobyl and to this day it's combat technique makes you dart around anxiously while trying to predict it's next angle of attack.

Well that did not work. Don't know how to embed it so there you go instead:

Video of last year, recorded on a 2012 HP business laptop. I apologize for the low quality video and shitty FPS - it also made the fight way harder :D

EDIT: Yes, I know, I'm a crosshair using noob. Bear in mind that a lot of the times, when I ADS in the areas I mentioned before, I get bigger lag. I'm building a desktop computer finally now so that that will hopefully be history now.

Hey Torenico,

since you've played them all, which one do you recommend to play? I've enjoyed CoM quite a bit so far and I've been thinking of picking up Last Day next. Is it as free? I've heared that Dead Air e.g. takes away quite a bit of choice when it comes to faction and balancing which is something I find a bit frustrating to say the least. I dislike degrading artifacts and they stated it was a hard factor in their mod.
Maybe I should consider Anomaly as well.

If you look up the Dead Air Mod DB site, you'll find a lot of comments about bugs. That and the aforementioned cutbacks on customization kinda put me off of it and it's too bad that they stopped working on CoM.

Don't let the War Thunder devs see that abomination ;D

I'm not a dev but I remember that Mumble with enemy chat enabled was tried in PR and for that mod it did not work out because of a lot of trolling over enemy chat.

I do however think that it would be fine in FH2 as at least for the "every day" servers, the gameplay is not that tactical and some taunting over mumble would maybe add to it. Mumble however in general only works if it is enforced by the server admins. That is the way it works in PR at least. You get kicked from every PR server if you don't have Mumble running which is less of a problem these days as it starts with the launcher already.

@Seth_Soldier: In your previous post: Are those Lorraines with sIG 33? Those are definitely not 7.5cm guns but it's hard to tell for me whether they have that characteristic "rail" underneath the barrel.

@Slayer: I'll admit that I'm not an avid football fan and am probably spoiled by the "mad skills" football compilations on youtube where they condense the best moments out of hundred of hours of games into three minutes (oh and by that 7:1 against Brazil, certainly the most fun game I've ever watched). What I mean is that the game seemed a bit static to me and especially that first half was pretty unbearable to watch for me.

@Zoologic: Yes, some rules that would stop that "camping" would be cool but you always run into the risk of putting too much rules into the game that will confuse players, referees and audience so it's very tricky to solve that elegantly. The rules you named are very simple and effective but defining when a team is just "pushing the ball around" to save time, it gets problematic.

Yes, and that especially hurt Germany because they were very unhappy with their team and also quickly remembered how unhappy they were with the politics again. Very annoying for Merkel and co. Also notice how they wanted to pass article 13 in the EU while the world cup was going; sneaking by important stuff as always.
Well, when it hits them, they are either long gone or have amassed so much money that the sting will be rather minor, I suppose. Hah, you mean the "eco friendly" formula one with small engines and no grid girls? How could that go wrong? To be honest, talking for me only, I've never been that much into watching cars do 50 laps around a circuit; I'd rather be sitting in one of those cars competing :P

Who would not play "only" to win in a final though? Noone will ever remember how "nice" you played or how great of a fair player you were but that star on the shirt is what counts. The only thing one remembers except for that are totally wrong referee decisions and insults or brutal fouls.

You're delusional if you think that sports even more boring than football will get more views despite such a borefest of a final.
Also playing destructively is what allowed Germany to reach quite a few finals. It's not a beauty contest.

I for one am satisfied and take it as a revenge for the undeserved loss in 2006 against the Italian professional cheaters.

EDIT: I'm a bit sad it was against Croatia though because they showed incredible willpower despite having a technical disadvantage. If it had been against any other than France or Germany, I'd have rooted for them.

I did not watch one game admittedly. For this game of France I was at work so I could hear some parts over radio here and there. Apparently Mbappé played very dirty to gain time; I always loathed that kind of behaviour. It angers me when the opposing team does it and it's absolutely embarassing when the own one does it.

Still, though, as a Franco-German, it's always hilarious to see all the hate France gets from Germany. It's not the French who won, it's Africa. At the same time Germany has been relying on Turkish and Polish talent for some time. After all this time, the resentment is still very deep. It also feels more hateful than the English-French rivalry that by this point seems to be more of a playful downplaying of eachother's feats.
