Something sneaky probably. A knife?

AN UPDATE!! ;D ;D

Yes i bet it is a Russian throwing knife or just a plain knife 8)

And another thought it could be something out of the ordinary. :D

Guessing wildly into the blue:

How is that Russian aircraft called that was used during night time? The Germans called it Nähmaschine... don´t know whether it would fit in the time period the devs are aiming for though.

Another possibility could be the BF 110. Deployed as a nightfigther, but also as a ground-attack aircraft in the east.

Propably something different though. The knife sounds more reasonable. But guessing is the fun part in this.

Weren't soviet female pilots that flew some certain bombers at night called Night Owls or Eagle Owls or something like that?

Night witches. And as it seems they participated even in the Battle of Berlin.

with fieselers, Cubs and Po 2's encirceling eachother

with pilots and gunners, and each gunner carries an SMG and pistol

oooh yes!

It is.

I´m curious - if it is infact the Nähmaschine - how it´s going to be implemented. Actually the machines ADVANTAGE was its low speed and flying at tree top level. BF109 and FW190 couldn´t fly as slow as the PO-2. Actually they started to stall where the PO-2 reached its maximum speed.

Now ingame... how can you avoid being mowed down by MG42s, tank coax or even main guns if it flies that slow?

It might be a candidate for the Finland maps. There we wouldnt have the problem with mg42 and at least much lesss with tank coax, because the finns wont have many tanks i suppose.

PS. It doesn't seem to have one after all
Title: Re: Death in the Night - A Forgotten Hope 2 Update

So will there be like "glide mode" where you can turn off your engine and sneak up on unsuspecting targets? That would be really awesome and unique in a bf 2 mod...

Title: Re: Death in the Night - A Forgotten Hope 2 Update

 That looks fantastic!!

 My question is..........
since these were well known "Night Bombers", does that indicate a possible Soviet Night Map?

Did FH1 ever have a Soviet night map?

 Anyways great work.

Litvyak flies Yak-1 fighters, not this recon/night bomber planes. But female fighter pilot models will be very awesome!

Besides night bomber, U-2 is also well-known as recon plane, probably like the current Piper J-3 Cub and Fieseler Fi-156 Storch in FH2. The British should have Westland Lysander though...

That wasn´t my point. It´s not going to totally avoid being shot at by MGs. If those are available on the map - be it MG 34/42, Finnish DP - it will get shot at. And all of those have better AA capabilities than the Breda. This can be seen on Cobra already, but the planes are faster and can get away. You are not flying through a vacuum with the Po-2.

As for the not hearing part: Then it would need a glide mode. Maybe it shouldn´t make a sound if you don´t give throttle (W-button). The plane got nicknamed the sewing machine for its specific engine noise.

AMAZING UPDATE !

According to WP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Witches) these ladies flew these "wood and canvas" aircraft with no parachutes. How wussy are people today ? They can barely get down to the corner shop never mind go on some feminine psychological warfare mission sitting in something sewn together out of textiles that is the equivalent of a bomb carrying butterfly :P The fact that these beauties flew below the stalling speed of German fighters, making them difficult to target, also makes me laugh. The hare and tortoise ?

"The Last Citadel" has quite a vivid point of POV chapter of a pilot flying one of these raids.

http://books.google.com/books?id=ds8lVgHLQGwC&printsec=frontcover&dq=the+last+citadel&hl=en&sa=X&ei=PITDUavdLrHd4AO_qIGgBQ#v=onepage&q&f=true (http://books.google.com/books?id=ds8lVgHLQGwC&printsec=frontcover&dq=the+last+citadel&hl=en&sa=X&ei=PITDUavdLrHd4AO_qIGgBQ#v=onepage&q&f=true)

Look for chapter three, though the others are worth a read, as is the whole book. I believe the historical accuracy, especially towards the end with the battle of Prokhorovka leaves a lot to be desired, though it's still a fantastic story, especially if you're into tank warfare.

Can't wait to fly it myself!

That'd be so ridiculous if co-pilot tried to shoot the enemy plane with his pistol in FH2. Just try to imagine that kind of situation and you'll see how ridiculous that is when you think of how accurate (range 50m) and how effective the pistol is in the game, also think of fast flying planes with decent armor against handheld weapons. As it was said it seems more like WW1 but still damn that makes my day on these forums.  ;D

Post by: Kuupperi on 24-06-2013, 15:06:21
I wouldn't mix up the game and reality together as I was speaking of the game all along. Try that on FH2 and get surprised by the result. No one surrenders in game.

That's a good real life story though but doesn't work that way in FH2. At least I would keep flying and grining while seeing my plane being shot at with a lousy pistol.  ;D

... it's not like the mod is dead or something.

Dead mods:
- don't have updates anymore for a very long time (over a year)
- don't have people playing them, let alone playing them everyday
- don't have an active devteam, and although it doesn't seem to be very active atm, there is still a devteam

It's not. It's just time for a patch and that the numbers of players decrease is no surprise. But the mod is definitely not dead and not even close to it yet.
Title: Re: Death in the Night - A Forgotten Hope 2 Update

The player numbers decrease has more to do with people studying for their finals and with the PR 1.0 beta release. Many of the playerbase are checking that out instead of playing FH. I'm sure that numbers will get back up when Eastern Front is ready.

I bet you guys have never played mods which were really dead. I did, and it is boring as hell, SP only and from time to time waiting on a server together with one other guy, hoping others might join. Most of the time in vain.

Now compare that to the daily numbers FH2 is srtill getting.

These "the mod is dead" posts are 16 year olds´ attempts to urge the devs to release updates. The posters think if they can convince them that the mod is dying day by day, the devs will work more intense and release updates faster.

I think the devs are trying to demoralise us first, then blast us with bunch of updates. ;)

Steam Sale ends 22nd. So the next update... wait.

22nd. 2 + 2.45 (current version) = 4.45 / 2 = 2.225.

Forgotten Hope 2 - Eastern Front confirmed February 22nd 12:00 GMT

BTW, is there any chance that in the future FH2 would have scenarios from Korean war, where we could have M2 Carbines, Pershings and T-34s battling?

Holy WOW!  :o Where did you get it? And thats your map right?  :D

It is. And I'm almost certain this map is actually being worked on for an official release. Would be such a waste about the bridge model, wouldn't it? You may also remember the tiny picture that has been posted and kinda looked like that bridge. And what about the horsa-glider "coming soon" on the FH2 website? And why would Godall go here presenting updates if he was not working on something official for himself?

I don't wanna guess wildly here, but I think that it's not the Pershing on the picture being updatelike, it's the map ;)

Could be very true.
I just hope the Pershing is not on the map> i believe Brits were on the map instead of US.

It's just that time of the year when developers, like most people have a completely different schedule, so it may be a bit lean, but updates wil resume in time.

So - be - patient.
