Two suns for Earth in 2012?
« on: 21-01-2011, 22:01:39 »
Hello,

I got up this morning and noticed an article, thought it was rather interesting; anyone else know more on the subject? Apparently some are saying a supernova is going to happen in 2012, which will 'give the Earth two suns' for a temp. period of time.

Look more into if you want....

You can't predict supernovae so accurately. The closest estimate we can make is "somewhere between now and a million years".

Still, Betelgeuse going supernova will result in one spectacular light show. It won't get anywhere near as bright as the sun though, but it should outshine the full moon at night.

Edit: Wikipedia has some information on it:

More than how many did when the LHC was turned on.Maybe even more than when MJ died.

I was watching at Discovery Channel a programing stating that we are "pretty on the edge of doom".
A blackhole can come from the nothing and swallow Earth, cosmic rays can destroy the planet...

I'm glad to see everyone is so cheerful toda.  :P But it's true, I guess with the advancement in science and technology we just get to realize how close we are to doom.

On the bright side, people always suspected they were close to doom. Now we have scientific proof!

The DVR is already getting set up to record Major News Channels all day on December 21st 2012, and then I'll tally up the number of mass suicides.

I spend last year with my eyes closed, so nope.
