Ambulances
« on: 03-09-2010, 22:09:24 »
Hello,
I was thinking (bad idea, I know)... and I thought, perhaps, why not add ambulances? It could be a tactical advantage on the battlefield. It would be like a weapons carrier providing ammo, except it would supply unlimited health. You could also carry passangers like they would, and if there is a medic in the ambulance, it would heal you twice as fast. Maybe offer some other advantages for medics to ride in an ambulance? Maybe also have a penatly for destroying an ambulace. also, instead of dropping ammo crate, it droppes a medic kit, or a stretcher which heals? I would say 5 or 4 passanger per ambulance. An example ambulance for the Americans would be a Dodge WC-54 (see below).

What do you think?

I dunno about Amberlamps. Apart from healing, whats the use? Transport across the battlefield would be unrealistic plus players will just hop in it, drive to a flag and abandon it.

haha, eh, I consider healing a pretty sufficient use. If we have ammo trucks, we could use these. Why would they misuse an important vehicle when there are plenty other, more fitted vehicles for flag hoppin', like jeeps, half-tracks, and Troop carriers.

The thing is that presently health is pretty much a non factor in FH2. You're pretty much either healthy or dead. Being wounded serves the purpose to remove you from the fight for a short while and it happens at most one time per life, in which case you can use the bandage as a fast way to heal. So adding a vehicle just for healing purposes has the following drawbacks:
- increases texture size of a map
- removes one of our precious 64 players from the actual fights in a non combat role

This all for a vehicle with a very specialised purpose that will more likely than not be used in a role that actualy is useful: transport, meaning you have the ambulance zooming around the frontlines looking weird.

The thing is, ammo trucks are actually directly supporting the fight by supplying troops with ammo to continue shooting. These were for getting troops back to ambulances, and aren't really supporting the troops in the fight, just the ones that got hit. Plus on larger maps where these would be used, the dominate rifles are 1S1K.

besides that, a regular truck resupplies infantry. Since all soldiers have bandages in their inventory, they can resupply at a regular truck if they run out. So the current trucks are a sort of ambulance :P

@ Ts, how would an ambulance on the front lines look weird? It would be realistic, perhaps not necessarily the WC-54 for a front line ambulance, but it was one of the standard ambulances and was used on the frontlines...

@ azreal, sure, but it's also important to keep those men alive so they can contiue shooting, right?
Plus it adds more of a tactical aspect of the game. Which, to me is important, I wouldn't mind using the ambulance..

@ luftwafffe, yes... but that isn't very realistcic for a mod about realism now is it? Personally, I think it would be more practicle than another uncommon variation of a tank we already have multiple variations of. It adds more diversity and options for the player. Not everyone is a tanker or rifleman.

Ambulance's were for transporting wounded to hospitals.  In field, they generally used jeeps or normal trucks to move the wounded to the field hospital, where, if seriously injured, they would then get picked up by ambulances.

Also, these honestly serve no purpose, as there is no health bar ingame, just like a medic kit is useless.  Leave an unbroken system be, please.

If FH2 was an arcade game where it required 5 shots to kill with non-regenerative health, this would be an awesome suggestion.

we could extend the black/white period so after your one patch is gone and you've been hit again you could call for an ambulance to take you back to the main to heal. While in the ambulance, your health will not decress if you are a passenger in the back. for added realism, you could do what BGF did and have the soldiers in the back lying down. It could also be used for transportation for the 2 guys who do have the medic kit. This would be good for the tornaments(spelling error).

I like the idea, but it will be used mostly for rushing flags. Free health + a couple of engineers in it.

I agree - a static on some choke point on an infantry map. It would supply nearby players with health. From time to time, I find myself crouching by supply crates to replenish health and to get more bandages.

Implementation would probably not be worth the work, though.

Sure it would be. Whether or not it will be implemented depends on if it catches a modeler's attention. I hope it does.

We dont need to model an ambulance for this. We can just take some crates and put a medic decal on it, and make it heal when you are close to it. Like in Bf1942.
I hate in FH2 when my bandage is used up, and the game keeps hurting me. (mapper makes me jump down cliffs or edges so I take damage, barbwire, explosion frags etc etc). I want the maps to have static healing positions where I can fuel up health.
FH2 wounds  the players in more ways than just fire from enemies, it is not more than right we aso place healing stations.
