Fall Weiss was only map that had habit of emptying the servers as far as I've seen during the years. Eastern Blitz and Counterattack 1940 were quite liked and I never saw people leaving en masse when they were next map. Fall Gelb on the other hand was hardly played because it was from mappack and not in the main mod.

Fallweis was disliked alot. Mainly because it was a large German whore fest. On eastren blitz and Counterattack, both teams had good chances. Because both had a good quanity of vehicles, wich where actually usefull

Fallweis had Panzer 38's, wich layed waste to the Tankette's.Causing many people to leave the allied team.

nono. Eastren blitz and Counterattack where very praised maps on TDP. Sure they wherent as epic as Midway or as Prokahkarov   (Kursk), but they defiantly wherent server emptier's

FH1 had all this; eastern blitz, fall gelb, 1940 france etc etc.. many long hours of work put in by devs. how did the players thank them? by bailing servers when the maps came up and joining a 1944-1945 kingtiger/P51/sg44/zook/firefly/BT7/ server... not gonna happen again. Sad, as I also think the more interesting parts of the war are the ones with less powerful equipment.. Id love to see Poland, Fall of France, Finland and Norway done, but players don't want it (the huge chunk of payers don't want it, only a handful of fans).  Embarrassed

I have a feeling that the  bf1942 engine was a bit to immature for this kind of gameplay. I think that a 1939-1940 setup might work out now, if the maps are well thought off, preferably with lots of chokepoints or a push map system. The problem with early war maps for FH1 was IMHO the fact that warfare was too spread out. This is nearly for all FH1 maps so, but in a 1944/45 scenario it seemed to work(everybody takes a zook and hides in the bushes), but a 1940 it always seemed to take to long to get something done.

In FH2 we get more "jammed" players anyway, thanks to the SL system. 1940 scenario's can work in FH2 I presume. Nevertheless, I think that ,if it ever gets done, it probably would go more into the fan made direction then in the FH2 production train. FH1 probably did too much damage to the devs their hearts to anounce a 1940 scenario, with the risk of not getting played.

So you only create things for the masses who bail FH2 after 3 months and then only Hslan is full again while people are getting tired of things that so many games featured. Just my opinion, don't feel offended please :P

300 people out of 15,000 are not "the masses", we are still one of the most niched mods out there.... .. if we made 1939 there would be 50 people playing. We need to secure a large playerbase before doing any more risky releases.

@luftwaffe - good points, all of them  :) it is a big difference between fh1 and fh. true.

this would be cool i loved it in fh 1 was really good fun and the simple idea that the allies has better tanks in 1939-1940 than the germans just not used on mass, counter attack and battle of britain were my fav (bofors whore lol)

I was talking about the release wave who all get attracted by Normandy. But if we go the attraction road I would lift along with The Pacific  :P

If there's gonna be a conversion of FH maps to FH2, Counterattack should be the one to be converted. That map was fucking great. Excuse my french, but it was that good.

The frenchies should have some extra weapons though..

Like the Hotchkiss M1914 Medium machine gun
The FM 24/29 light machine gun
and maybe even the Hotchkiss M1922 machine gun

I must admit in the last FH1 version I always left when Counter Attack came.

But that's not because of the map (that was really good) but because a guy had the stupid idea to give PzIII ausf J to the german side in this version. The fight didn't mean anything in those conditions.  :'(

Otherwise of course I'm one of the warmest sustainer of Polish and French early war theatres.  :)

- Both british and french in the same map in style of Sidi Rezegh with germans and italians basically.
- It was from more unknown parts of the war
- Totally awesome looks
- Played well
- Matilda I, Char B1, Somua, Flamethrowers and Panzer38t in the same map, whoo!
- French forces and equipment giving the much needed variety

I'd love to play as the british early war years at the evacuation of dunkirk or something like that or Dieppe! those were really sweet maps that i played on for XWW2 for bf1942...

I think that a 1939-1940 setup might work out now, if the maps are well thought off, preferably with lots of chokepoints or a push map system. Agreed,

To say early wars will be a server emptier in FH2 is too premature (although i never played online). The infantry game play for us SPers© back then during FH for BF1942 quite suck big time because of the engine limitations. We also feel the same about it. Basically, infantries are cannon fodder in that game. There are too few things a player can do while being an infantry in BF1942. So, LANfest players certainly would immediately jump into any available vehicles rather than marching with boring style to the fights.

But its entirely different when i experienced FH2's infantry map like Giarabub, Tunis, and other smaller version maps. They're basically tankless maps, and notice that Giarabub even only has early war vehicles. I guess with more interesting environment (lush green European terrain) rather than bland dusty dessert of North Africa, and better gameplay as an infantry in BF2, the earlier combat would be more interesting.

Speaking about the environment, i feel that the FH2.2's Normandy far exceeds my expectation, and feeling like playing a CoD X or MoH:FH or some sort of ultra cool FPS in BF2 engine. Perhaps it is because of the "greenies". Love the Normandy maps.

Counterattack! was the coolest map that was ever made.  Only ignorant fools could not see that!

Love that too!
