I have a feeling that the bf1942 engine was a bit to immature for this kind of gameplay. I think that a 1939-1940 setup might work out now, if the maps are well thought off, preferably with lots of chokepoints or a push map system. The problem with early war maps for FH1 was IMHO the fact that warfare was too spread out. This is nearly for all FH1 maps so, but in a 1944/45 scenario it seemed to work(everybody takes a zook and hides in the bushes), but a 1940 it always seemed to take to long to get something done.
Agreed,
To say early wars will be a server emptier in FH2 is too premature (although i never played online). The infantry game play for us SPers© back then during FH for BF1942 quite suck big time because of the engine limitations. We also feel the same about it. Basically, infantries are cannon fodder in that game. There are too few things a player can do while being an infantry in BF1942. So, LANfest players certainly would immediately jump into any available vehicles rather than marching with boring style to the fights.
But its entirely different when i experienced FH2's infantry map like Giarabub, Tunis, and other smaller version maps. They're basically tankless maps, and notice that Giarabub even only has early war vehicles. I guess with more interesting environment (lush green European terrain) rather than bland dusty dessert of North Africa, and better gameplay as an infantry in BF2, the earlier combat would be more interesting.
Speaking about the environment, i feel that the FH2.2's Normandy far exceeds my expectation, and feeling like playing a CoD X or MoH:FH or some sort of ultra cool FPS in BF2 engine. Perhaps it is because of the "greenies". Love the Normandy maps.
Counterattack! was the coolest map that was ever made. Only ignorant fools could not see that!
Love that too!
