Pzb. 39 is very low power
« on: 07-06-2012, 05:06:11 »
By very low power, I mean it barely penetrates an old Vickers Mk VI tank, or the Stuart, or similar. In my experience, the Panzerbusche 39 in Forgotten Hope 2 is more an anti-car rifle than anything, it seems to have only the penetration needed for halftracks like the Universal carrier and the Sdkfz. 251, and the lightest of the armored cars just barely.

Does it have an after-effect I'm not noticing, or is it just that in real life the Panzerbusche 39 hardly compared to it's Russian and British AT rifle counterparts?

It really wasn't the greatest from what I've read. It used a 7.92mm bullet with a really necked down cartridge, so it was extremely high velocity. In all practical sense, anti-tank rifles weren't that effective all together. So, I wouldn't say it's unrealistic that the rifle isn't all that great.

All anti tank rifles in game are pretty useless, yes you can destroy a Panzer II or a Vikers light tank with them quite good. I would say they are oaky on maps like Fall of Tobruk, Girabub or Svakia where you are fighting only very light tanks or other vehicles.

But appart from those maps the AT rifles are completly useless on maps like Supercharge, Allam Halfa and every other map with mainly Crusaders/Shermans/Grants and PanzerIII/PanzerIV they become a joke and a very bad one I might say.
Id MUCH rather have a kit with geballte and a rifle, those mines are just as shitty as the At rifles.
I am hoping for the upcomming release and the Hafthohlladung, hopefully the devs change something about the At kits on the late old NA maps too.

The german 7.9mm panzerbusches also had the high tendency to shatter on impact instead of penetrating, even with light tanks

Did they use those tear gas capsel ammo during wars? Was it the main ammunition available or did they just use simple steel AP rounds?

The PzB39 ingame has 5mm more penetration than the Boys, though it does slightly less damage (afaik) and obviously doesn't have a magazine.

Actually on Supercharge I killed a Panzer IV F2 with Boys AT rifle. Have yet to hurt a Sherman or Grant with a Panzerbusche though.

Thanks for the responses guys, helpful to know.

EDIT: Recently managed to heavily damage an AI swarm of Crusaders and Stuarts (very very small effect on Grants it seems) and make them start flaming after about 5 shots to side/turret/back.

I think I've read recently this teargas ammunition had too small a dosis to be actually perceptible by the recipient.

Panzer IV can be killed with five shots to the rear hull armor. Extraordinarily difficult, but possible, and good to know for any situation where an already-damaged Panzer IV shows up and you can take him out.

The diffrence in damage should be much bigger..The boys had a 62.9 gram bullet while the 7.9x94 had a standard Mauser bullet.....

Jeez, even it's a small AT rifle you can't let go...

In 2.3 you could use it against infantry at least, no I'd rather have a rifle or a second pistol instead :P

Excuse me, this is a perfect valid point i am making. Both you and butcher are always the ones seeking it out.

you had no right whatsoever to say this.

Here is your proof=

Boys .55 960 grain bullet
7.92x94 250 grain bullet

While the 7.92x94 has a higher muzzle velocity and slightly better penetration, a .55boys will always have a far deadlier damage radius then a 7.92x94
