Forget what I said about game engines and all that jazz in my earlier post. I guess I was just looking at it from the perspective of the past and how after a few years of development on the bf1942 engine the devs went to BF2. I just didn't realize that the situation today was different in that regard as far as upcoming games not being moddable(which is kind of a bummer as far as the long term outlook for mods) and other factors such as not representing enough of an improvement over bf2 to be worth the pain in the ass of restarting things again. Besides...yeah...you devs do have Crazy skills in terms of getting the most out of this engine that seems humanly possible. I mean things like the vegetation in FH2 compared to in vanilla BF2...holy crap. So long since I played vanilla that I'd forgotten about that ;-)

Killer update and those upcoming west front snow battles should be very nice. Praying for a remake of Nordwind  ;D

Hooray for Bulge! Double Hooray for Russian front!! Some of my favorite FH1 maps are east front; Seelow Heights, Berlin Streets, and Pavlov's house(which I just played last night on pixelfighter :-).

Anyone following these forums knew Bulge was coming next. The real 'news' here(for me at least) is the eastern front. I am so glad they're going on to that before pacific. Mainly because I personally believe whatever front they do next(not counting Bulge which is an expansion of Normandy/West front) will probably, realistically be the last one done for the mod. Bulge would have to be at least one if not two releases and then Russia would take at least a couple releases after that. Given the development timetable so far, all these releases will take the next 1 1/2 to 2 years, and BF2 is already a 5 1/2 year old game engine.

All I get on youtube when I click on that link is a screen that says:
"This video contains content from WMG, Koch Entertainment and INgrooves, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.
Sorry about that."

Yeah I'll definitely be on wolf tonight. I want to try to expand beyond just Thursday's. Like when people are on tonight ask them to come back for Wolf FH2 Sunday! Like I say in this thread at wolf  http://www.wolfgaming.net/forums/showthread.php?t=41153  FH2 is too damn fun for us US players to be relegated to just one night a week. I would also suggest to any US players out there that you register at wolf forums and introduce yourself and post any suggestions, etc. Back in the day, when we would announce FH2 Thursdays in a thread over there, there would be a couple dozen replies and that would generate excitement and let players know that there would be a bunch of others on. Lately you'd be lucky to see a half dozen replies in such a thread.

One problem with getting Wolf occupied on nights other than Thursdays, is that because Thursdays are the "big game night", that's generally been the only night of the week you find an admin or two on. It's sad to say but it seems many original wolf admins have "moved on"(whether to other games or real life stuff or a combination thereof). Even on Thursdays Dago Red and Carrion are typically the only two who regularly show up any more. A couple others do occasionally(Skandranon, Kurt Steiner, and a couple other [wolf] tagged one's). But as far as most other nights of the week, they have become more like the odd bigfoot or UFO sighting: Player1: “Hey was that an admin I saw?” Player2: “oh lay off the booze would you, there's no such thing as admins”. And this DOES hurt playability when there's no one around to DJ maps or kick tards.

One ray of sunshine on this point though, I was just made a jr. admin at wolf this past Thursday. I can't promise to be on EVERY night but I'm pretty sure I do play FH2 more than any other admins right now. I was on last night and I think we got up to upper 20 something people on and even at 3:00am eastern time we still had about 20 people on. I was actively putting maps up that fit the player numbers(a lot of 32's that night :-) and this helped keep things going.

I personally hope the senior wolf admins have their eye on one or two additional people to make admins as this should help A LOT in getting/keeping the server occupied closer to every night of the week instead of just Thursdays.

General Discussion / Re: Battle Of Brest
« on: 03-10-2010, 11:10:03 »
Brest is my favorite of the three new maps in 2.3.  It may take a little time to see if I end up considering it my personal favorite map in the mod. For that it's got some stiff competition from Fall of Tobruk. Brest is the FH2 map most like FH1's Berlin Streets and that was my favorite map in Fh1. This gives the feel of that(Intense urban combat in a largely destroyed city) while being even better in the sense of giving a couple more avenues of advance than that map did. When I was looking at the updates for this release I thought I'd find Ramelle(which is good) to be my favorite map of 2.3 but after playing them all this weekend it is DEFINITELY Brest.

Is there any centralized tracking website that shows how many people are downloading the FH 2.3 torrents? Just curious about how many are getting this.

PS. Cool trailer by the way  ;D

I think this release is just in time to save this mod here in North America. Player numbers have really been down here, especially the past couple weeks(students going back to school; new fall tv shows providing additional distraction?). Even this past wolf FH2 thursday only hit a high of about 25 people :'(  The best thing about new releases is the revitalized player population they almost always bring(for a little while at least).

Anubus turns battles.  Anthrax can turn a firefight.
Me? LOL. I don't deserve to be mentioned NEAR anubis when it comes to mentions of best players. I typically finish a round with more deaths than kills. Anubis owns me at just about every encounter when both on foot and if he's in a tank my death is automatic. I'll Also second whoever mentioned Kurt Steiner; damn good skills on his own and awesome Squad Leader. And finally Savagee is the best I've ever seen with a rifle and I don't have a chance against him if we see each other at the same time(or even if I see him well ahead of time, fire a shot or two and miss and then he turns and one shots me in half a second ;D).

Oh right.. won't be able to attend for friday or saturday :( would love to see port-en-bessin on a full server. anyways, see you sunday in Hslan/Wolf server!
I won't be able to play on Friday or Saturday either but I am looking forward to a final Wolf Fh2 2.25 this Thursday night and then 2.26 from Sunday night on. The US server(s) should be full again (for a while anyway) as usual right after a new release.

General Discussion / Re: Rad's Tribute
« on: 14-04-2010, 05:04:11 »
I am very thankful for the enjoyment Rad has helped me and many others have over the years with his awesome contributions to this mod. I never knew him but will continue to enjoy the self-less donation of his time and talent through playing this wonderful mod. My condolences to his family and may he Rest in peace.

Fall of Tobruk is my favorite map in any theater(Although I'd give an honorable mention to giarabub as my second favorite african map). And maybe Lebisey for a normandy map.

« on: 31-03-2010, 21:03:33 »
I miss FH1 like you wouldn't believe. :(
I don't miss it because I still play it.  :)  Pixelfighter server is occupied pretty much every day. Even though there are some server-side mods of many maps, I find that a small price to pay to still be able to behold the glory that is FH1. I'm off to play market garden now...

The Maps I enjoyed the most(and still enjoy occasionally when i see Pixelfighter occupied) are:

Tobruk
Liberation of Caen
Berlin Streets

and...

PAVLOV!
