Good effects is awesome to watch. I could perfectly well just watch effects of explotions for 2 hours with no story at all. It would be awesome.

That doesnt make any sense; its like watching a porn movie without sex in it so to speak.

Betray the human race to "save" a handful of primitive alien creatures that you met 3 months ago and you're a big hero???

Does anyone else have a problem with that or am I just looking at it wrong?

(I put "save" in quotes because you know humans just got really pissed off and are coming back better prepared to bomb the crap out of dem smurfs)

Im unfamiliar with him. But i see the films he have made and most of them sucks i must must say. So i guess i dont like him too much. I think the Avatar-explosions is alot better than the few movies ive seen of his list.
My favorite explosion scenes must be episode 7 of BoB, the artillery rain in Bastogne. Aswell as Talvisota (winter war) have an awesome long scene with explosions (though it doesnt look too real, unless they only have some kind of fire bombs) but still awesome.

Thankfully ive never seen Pocahontas. Maybe i would get annoyed by the similarities people talk about aswell.

@Erna:  Maybe a futuristic UN will deny further aggressions against the smurfs

I haven't seen it, and I refuse to see it.  Its the same old rehashed plotline that I've seen countless times....Its Dances with Wolves set in space....=/  Sure its probably got the amazing CGI effects that everyone is talking about...but that doesn't make it a good movie, that just makes it pretty.  And pretty movies aren't always GOOD movies, its plot and actors that make a movie.
I concur, but this was quite obvious from the start: Sucky plot, great CGI.

If you don't like Michael Bay, then you don't like explosions.

Love it when directors admit they are over the top and actually like it.

I guess i like him , since he makes explosions, though i dont think the explosions on those links were of the best sort. He kinda dont manage to visualize the impact as well as BoB. If i should really like an "explosion-maker" it must be the BoB/SPR- team.
Anyhow, you can be sure i like explosions. Its become quite some mountains ive blown to pieces at work. I strongly enjoy it, at a level far above Michael Bays movies. Ive heard hundreds of explosions, and felt the shockwaves in my body and the ground around me. Thats of course too intense to make in a movie, even with the best sound system possible to get. But usually the effect makers dont even try. I havent seen too many explosions, that means we have screwed up. Once i had to run and throw myself behind cover, while huge rocks were flying over me.

@Yustax:  Ive seen Dances with Wolves when it was almost new. Dont remember much, but what i remember was quite similar with Avatar, yes. Didnt think about that at all when i watched Avatar. It sucks that he cant be more original indeed, but its not as bad so i hate the movie.

I'd rather play Kimble with my ass (...)

Ok, this seems very awkward, but everytime i see steel lion with his photo of a guy´s head looking above something, and with the "i´d rather play kimble with my ass" signature, i just laugh my ass off!  ;D

Can you just tell me what exacly is kimble? and from were did you got this great idea for an signature like that?
