Naval vessels
« on: 06-07-2014, 14:07:43 »
I played both FH1 and 2 and something that i loved in the first FH was the fact that the game had some maps totaly focused on navy warfare. However wen I played FH2 for the first time I was a bit dissappointed cus there was no ships at all.

My sugestion is to create some ships like the famous bismark, prince of wales, the enterprise and even u-boats and make a map were battleships, aircraft carrier, submarines and planes can battle each outher off in some kind of team deathmach. To be historically accurate the maps should be placed on the west front and, if it is released, on the pacific theater.

thank you.

I have a soft spot for new FH2 fans. Mostly because i know how rude some of these forum lifers can be to newbies asking old questions.

It was apparently decided long ago by the old FH2 gods & the new, that it was impossible to implement naval engagements do to the limits of the BF2 engine.

However, it has been proven a myth & while some FH2 Campaigns have featured some naval units, it is rumored that in a secretive underground bunker in an undisclosed locations, that work on a Pacific Theater is being developed.

THeTA0123's rude comments refer to the limited manpower of FH2's current dev team & the anger at his confusing forum name.

lol, you mean those bugged FH1 ports and british static aircraft carrier? I think it just proves the point that naval warfare will never be as good as in FH1 and that's why whole idea was scrapped, SADLY.

It was fun as hell and that's what really matters. To man a battleship with 10 people, one guy on each position and having those epic battles on a 128 player server with airplanes strafing the ships and sub marines sneaking in between the big battleships was one of the highlights of my time with FH2.

It is possible to achieve nice naval battles if we will prevent soldiers completely from walking on the ships decks because that leads to teamkill fest. It would be great if players could spawn only in all 8 vehicles positions to control all main ship armament + spawn in additional AA guns on the deck, such solution would make it possible to have more that 8 people to fully operate one ship and would result in 50 positions to man per team with small number of naval assets per map (=without fucking up map scale). If it's possible to code subs to work like in bf1942 and make ships to take water and sink like in FHSW I would be happy with it. The biggest problems is that we lack ship models, naval armament like dual bofors etc. and most FH1 imports looks really low quality, even if we will find some codding mastermind to code all those thing properly.

What about coding the ships as forceobjects? shouldn't that reduce the immense teamkill problem?
I do bad things to the BF2 engine.

Very true. I also had amazing fun playing thyrrenian sea.. all those planes, bombers, destroyers, battleships, submarines and torpedo boats.. such a mayhem :)

I understand you very much, the pacific theater is my favorite one and what FHdev have accomplish in HF1 was amazing and since them I was hoping that we will see the pacific in FH2, but because we don't have the manpower, we will probably (surely and sadly) never see that happening. But I can imagine how awesome would be the pacific theater with big boat and invasion of Island etc etc.  I know bf2 engine have some flaw, but it will be better than FH1.

Sometimes it is better not to do something at all instead of not doing it properly.

My position on Naval vessels has always been thus:

1. Static, destructible aircraft carriers using the BF2 bridge code. Planes spawn on and launch from these, and their defenses are static AA and some cannons depending on the model.

2. Static Battleships with weapon positions, similar to Carrier. Each position can be destroyed and needs to be fixed or lost. This ship serves as the final defense of the carrier.

3. Mobile submarines, cruisers etc, each targeted balanced against another ship type. Like tanks, a fatal hit kills the whole crew. These are mobile, so they can move in to attack.

The gameplay is like a naval version of Battle of Britain. The carrier and heavy battleship serve as the static defenses and objective.

The mobile ships plus aircrafts and sub serve as the attack vehicles.

BUT

there is still the issue of devs to implement this, and frankly, I want to see the Pacific first -- Or at least the battle of britain so...
