Сталингра́д
« on: 07-05-2009, 01:05:43 »
Stalingrad is one of my favorite battles.

There should be three seperate Stalingrad maps: Crossing of the Volga (like in FH1)  An urban battle, and a map of Red Square. (Teamkilling allowed?)

I think that Vasilli Zaitsev is the geatest sniper of them all, and I think it would be great if FH emulated him by creating a Vasilli Zaitsev kit.
The kit would make the player look exactly like Vasilli
He would get a Scoped Mosin-Nagant

Also, There should be a german counterpart: A kit for Standartenführer Erwin König would be there, too.

NOT ONE STEP BACK!

1:  There were many snipers who were superior to Zaitsev, who only made his fame in that battle.  It is currently believed in almost all historical circles that his victories were much overstated, including his kill tally, to serve Soviet Propaganda.

2:  Standartenfuhrer Erwin Konig never, ever, EVER, existed.  Nope, nada.  THere was never a Erwin Konig master sniper in the german army, and there was never a sniper in the german army who attained such a high rank as standartenfurhere, or Major, depending if the russian propaganda is billing him as SS or Gibergsjager this time.  The top german sniper in WW2 is Matthäus Hetzenauer, who survived the war with 345 confirmed kills, and the rank of Gefreiter, ie, Lance Corporal.  The runner up was Josef Allerberger, with 257 kills, and the author of the book "Sniper on the Eastern Front."  He attained the rank of Obergefreiter, ie, Corporal.  The germans saw, quite obviously, that snipers shouldn't be officer rank, as they don't command anyone, and they're lone wolfs.  Meanwhile, the russians had officer snipers, due to their tendency to deploy snipers as a full unit, while the germans used them like the other armies, as single, specialized troops.  They recognized them by medals, not promotions.  There is no way, in hell, that the german army would have had a sniper of the rank of Major, even the instructors were the rank of Unteroffizer or Unterfeldwebel.

But in the end, the most damning evidence is the simple fact that Standartenfuhrer/Major Erwin Konig never once existed.

3:  It is impossible to have a kit change what your player model looks like.

4:We aren't even in normandy, normandy maps alone will prob last until 2.5, which may be next year, by which point the devs will have to decide where to go next.  So why are you even asking for an incredibly common, well known battle, when we don't even have the wherewithal to do it for at LEAST 1.5-2 years.

The maps, sure.  The kits?  No.  There will prob be a normal russian and german sniper kit, and that's about it.  Realism trumps "neato."

I have to go with flippy on this one.  Simo>All other snipers.  Hell the guy was so bad ass he did not even use optics.  Not only that but also found time between sniping to rack up a 100+ kills with an SMG.  If the Fins had cloned a 100 Simo's we would have to rename the Continent of Asia Finland.

Hahaha... today my uninformed "history" teacher taught us about Stalingrad. She referenced Enemy at the Gates as the place to find facts, and proceeded to tell us about how Russian snipers apparently won the battle single-handedly. One of my more intelligent comrades raised his hand to say "What by shooting officers and stuff?" Obviously snipers didn't win the battle of Stalingrad, but what he was saying makes sense, also obviously. Our teacher responded "No, they only shot the Russian officers because they ordered retreats." I wasn't surprised though because since she told us about the Battle of Thermopylae by talking about 300.  Other things she has taught us is that the Christmas Truce of 1914 happened in World War II, that there was only one Punic War, and that U-571 was an amazing film and somehow Das Boot was inaccurate. So. She is not smart.

Sounds like my current history teacher.  Did you know that in the 1800s, it was the Portuguese East Indies, not the Dutch?  Also, the War of 1812 ended in 1812.  The Nazi party was a middle class movement, and not a workers movement, because the workers were unaffected by unemployment and hyperinflation (she actually said that).  Also, the Nazi Party was the "Socialist Worker's Party."  Malta is an island in the straits of Gibraltar.  Ethiopia was colonized by the Italians in 1935, not invaded.  There was not fighting by french or British troops during the phony war.  Afghanistan was a British colony.  Austria did not vote to join Germany, Hitler just walked in and said it was his.  I can go on...>__<

@ Mudra,
Go to your student ombudsman and register a complaint. I had to do it years ago for a philosophy course that was terrible. Almost the entire class participated in the complaint, and it resulted in a refund on the course of 50%, as well as a minimum C+ for any student who registered their objection to the course's content.
All in all, the process took just over 2 weeks and had no negative impact on our transcripts or student records. You don't deserve to see yours, or your parents money get flushed down the crapper.

Back to somewhat on topic but you guys need to stop pissing on the idea of other theatres or map scenario's. We need to be more encouraging so that any budding mappers take it upon themselves to expand our fields of operation. Forgotten Honor just made a bunch of Italian maps and I personally have my fingers crossed some of them become officially sanctioned.

That in itself is a whole new theatre with little more than some official input and I would presume marginal Dev support given the outstanding quality of Forgotten Honor's  maps to date. I know Natty is officially a Dev now, so maybe some of his Forgotten Honor maps came along with him for the ride.
