In the upcoming 2.45 patch, the map Mersa Matruh (originally by Lobo), will now take place at night. This conversion was done by Natty. You can view the screenshots below.

Stukas at night? But I need sleep! :P
Anyway looks nice and it's bound to give us that real NA feeling... (although I will miss sniping panzers from the watertower... Or maybe... Now they can't see me so easily... Woooho!)
-
this is so cool
-
Woa that looks totally awesome! And the Stukas wills till be usefull? And tank combat must be totally different maybe infantry and tank combat willnot to totaly separated from each other as it is often onpublic servers on this map today.
I am gonna miss the longrange tank fights though.
In general love to see another night map. Really cool idea and totally enexpected cant wait to play it.
Will the daylight version still be included in FH? Would be sad to loose it.
Will there be Flak searchlights? Would be awesome!
-

Why? You can still have them. When a tank fires, it is awfully visible, you know ;)
-
This is absolutely brilliant!!! Better than the "official" update today (which was cool as well)!
I just hope this is not a aprils fool prank.. :-)
-
Just wondering why this change? The battle took place at night? Just to know, cheers ;)
Most NA battles took place at night, evening or early morning because it was cooler.
-
And moving during night was harder to spot. Dust clouds and all that.
-
I really hope the day version of this is still available to play, it's a really great map and I definitely prefer the daytime version, having played both. Nonetheless I'm sure it will be good.

I'm quite sure that you have not played that version... Who the balls are you if you have?

-
^ that's the one!
-
Notice totally different lightsettings and the skybox. So nope, not a mcgee of any tits have played this version, except us real tits.
-
Awwww... well, close enough! :P
(I take it this isn't an april fools gag then...)
-
This could be the real update.
Mersa Matruh battle took place late between the 23rd - 28th June 1942. The part depicted in the FH2 map (the penetration by axis forces through the minefield south of Mersa Matruh) took place lateon the 26th June.
Having the map showing as a night map could be more realistic and plus we need more night maps. Have always loved Hyacinth.
Screenshots look absolutely great! (Fingers crossed it is a real update) :)
-
Looks great!
-
The sky looks astonishingly realistic and picturesque. I absolutely admire the lighting, too. I think that this map has got a real chance to become my new favourite. Now all that would be needed to fully satisfy me would be an El Alamein night map (with a bagpipe pickup kit! *trollface* by the way, there were quite some pipers present, charging alongside the infantry, so... maybe we could get some pipes as an ambient sound? ;D)
-
I guess infantry might actually have a chance against armor here, pretty exciting change, wonder how it'll work out
still I'll miss the old version
-
The main actions at Matruh did indeed occur at night, including the famous break out by the Indians (something represented by the captureable German flag to the far south east of the map). All in all, this will be a really nice change :3
-
AJ51 who made the first conversion was the son of a WWII Vet and he made the conversion for this exact reason.
Its nice to see this implemented. It will give the Germans a real fighting chance, I think. But will make Tank buster squads all the more scary.
-
Looking very nice!
Finally more night maps. Well done.

There were Indians in Mersa Matruh ???
-
Would rather it get a separate map. :(
-
Ditto.

no! ;D

Not entirely strange, seeing as how there were four Indian Divisions in North Africa.

Sub-continental Indians also made up the largest standing army in the british commonwealth during WW2.
It would kick some serious ass to see them in game someday, Turban's and Khukri FTW
edit: As a courtesy, would AussieJeff51 not be deserving of some credit for having created the initial version of this very map? he did come up with this idea years before...

Also for Keren, with vickers berthier mg.

i hope the flag lay out is not the "strike at karkand" one posted by natty few months ago

That's true, he did make a SP Mersa Matruh Inf only night map back in 2008 and you have mentioned it now (here's the link for all you SP guys: Link (http://battlefield2.filefront.com/file/FH2_Mersa_Matruh_Night_Infantry%3B94497))
, but I don't know if that is enough to credit him. Anyone can think of a map that's suitable for night battles. Especially during the NA-Campaign. He actually made 3 NA maps from that time into night maps. (Here we go: Links (http://battlefield2.filefront.com/developer/aussiejeff;29063))
-
That Alamein Aces map CTDs straight away, not meant for 2.4?
-
Probably not, many things have changed since 2008 and FH2.1. ;D

Of course he shouldn't be credited... This person has nothing to do with the map :/

AJ 51 had the same idea, but he simply changed the skybox and fixed the lighting accordingly. The map being presented here has got a new, custom made skybox of its own and a perfectly calibrated lighting to match the sky and nicely represents the moonlight. The official new map required a lot of additional work, which fortunately paid off very well. I can't wait for this great map to be released!
-
Terrain has also been changed heavily, since the map was pretty shitty before.
-
Wow! Great job natty! Jag vill verkligen börja mappa för er! :)
-
Night flying map? Will the runway be lit at all?

Night flying map? Will the runway be lit at all?
I don't think that a lit up runway is needed. Look at the screens, its not totally "black" night. More like dark blue sky, so i guess you can still see well enough where you are going to land :)
Or if you are lucky, they lit up the runway indeed, but i doubt that.

What does changed terrian mean? Is it like a new layout for the building in the city or "just" new skins?
It looks like there also new vehicles, for example I think there never was a Kübelwagen (or was it?). On one screens you can see one. Also new/other tanks included?
-
Yes, better building or rather wall layout and different heightmap.
-
So German armor/infantry attacking in the open from main bases will have some ground relief and a few places for hull down support positions?
The map looks gorgeous btw. Very well balanced lighting and a romantic skybox.

Maybe not needed, but still would be cool.

Actually I think that might be exactly what natty did. Rocks and cliffs and stuff.
-
Awesome! Just what the map needed. :D
Pesky 6 pounders lost a bit of advantage.

It is necessary to remake the image of the moon. It looks terrible.
-
Well Godall,
the moon (and skybox) seen here are already very crisp for bf2, although I'd prefer to see an HD version of the sky, too. I am unsure if it is possible to realise (engine limitations).
