What does the writing on the fuselage say?

I thought the Soviet War Cry was "Za Rodinu! Za Stalina!" & they painted these words on their vehicles?

It says "за великого сталинна" which is "for the great Stalin!"

The perspective may be misleading, but this is the m/1943 (IL-2M) with the 23mm guns, and not the m/1944 (IL-2M3), correct? The wing would not seem to have the sweepback of M3.

If you mean the Sturmovik with 37mm cannons it was IL-2 Type 3M i think. While 23mm was IL-2 Type 3

No, I meant IL-2m3 aka m/1944 (most of which had only 23mm guns), NOT IL-2 Type 3M (Plus I thought 37mm versions were made from m/1943?)
