I'm not sure where to put this. But I consider it worth posting (and watching):

German tv crew accompanying volunteer batallion "Mirotworetz" and breaking through encirclement out of Ilowaisk (English subtitles)
Thanks for posting. Fascinating report.

Been waiting for this for like 7 years. Hope it's going to be as awesome as it looks.

So, I looked it up and in The Netherlands you learn this in school when you're 10 years old...

That document is a load of shit.

At first it seems to be because allegedly it was made in the early 90s (so the 1 computer seems to make at least a little sense), but then when you look up some of the statistics like Illiteracy (25% in 1990, 15% now) and Malnutrition (15% in 1990, 13% in 2008), you see it's just utter bullshit no matter which way you look at it. As for Personal Computers, there are about 2 billion in use today, so that would be about 28%, assuming no one has double.

Today's lesson; don't believe anything you read on the internet without fact checking it.

Best episode yet, I think. The story moved forward more in this one episode than the entire rest of the season.

Only bits I didn't like were the skeletons from Army of Darkness and the fireballs. Also minus one point for not including coldhands.

I was glad Tyrion's storyline ended the was it did, but is he really gone forever. I would assume he was not an important character from the books to the main story, but he is a fan favorite so...
You mean Tywin, right? Tyrion's storyline is clearly not over.

In my voting district there are some 10.000ish people who are allowed to vote. That makes about 0.0001% I can change.
No it doesn't. Try using a calculator next time. 1/10 000th of 100% is 0.01%.

I voted pro-EU D66 (liberals) on Thursday. Very glad to see they got the most votes.

Ignoring the people who are blatantly posting they're okay with racism for a minute...

It's not the lava that is blue. It would have to be over 7000 Kelvin to be blue, while lava generally is around 1500 Kelvin. What's blue is the flames, caused by the combustion of sulphuric gases.

Developer Blogs / Re: Omaha Beach - Defenses Explained
« on: 02-04-2014, 22:04:20 »
There is not true north and south in fh2 land. Some devs a firm believers that the poles will soon switch place and everything will be fine.
Geographic north and south are not magnetic north and south, in fact, geographic north corresponds roughly (1000 km away) from the magnetic south pole (generally called the magnetic north pole to avoid confusion).

Still, if the orientation of the minimap is the best thing people can come up with to complain about, you should consider your update pretty successful.

Now, the position of the Sun on the other hand should be in the correct place, as it is the only way you can determine actual north. Whether the north points to the top of your screen is totally irrelevant. It's like holding a map upside down and saying the map is wrong - the map is fine. So, judging from the minimap, the shadows are pointing to the right, which means the Sun is rising on the left side. Since this is early morning and the Sun rises in the east, the sea is in the north, which is correct.

Set a new personal record today.

Killed 9 enemy tanks. The reason it took 6 shots to kill the churchill was because I ran out of AP ammo and had to use HE. The T1 Heavy, their last tank, thankfully at 2% hp, I killed with my last round of ammo.

It's pretty well made, but the design of some of the maps is rather frustrating, being either completely or almost completely linear for vehicles. The resulting battles feel like you're fighting in tunnels, barely being able to fit 2 tanks in the narrowest sections. Added to this that you cannot hit the enemy main base defence tower without being exposed to it and the entire enemy complement of vehicles and the fact that repairing the main base defence is much more efficient than damaging it, makes the entire map unplayable. Add air strikes and a scoring system that heavily favours defending teams to the mix and you end up with a very frustrating whole.

You need to deploy them first. There will be a new icon under your flag in the upper left corner where you can select which of your units to deploy.

Yeah you need a pretty new PC to run HoI3 decently. Especially in later games when you get more and more units in the world it goes slower and slower. Alternatively you can get Hearts of Iron 2. It's basically the same game, except you have less provinces in the world. (Again make sure you get the latest version and all add-ons.)

(Do note you can change game speed, playing through peacetime on normal speed is very slow indeed.)

These games are indeed quite complex, but once you know how they work they are a lot of fun. Play the tutorials in the game first, then try a small country that's in a safe place. (Neutral Portugal should be fine.) Try and see how the basics work. Then you'll need the wikis.

Try and read every guide on the wiki, it's a lot, but it's really really helpful.

Then try a game as one of the large countries. I'd advice either the USSR or Germany, as you won't have to bother with naval warfare. (Building ships requires a lot of industrial capacity and you can lose them very quickly, so if you don't know what you're doing you can lose a lot of power very suddenly.) The USSR is easier, you have more time before war starts, you have only one front and you can win by simply throwing in more units. As Germany on the other hand you progress is guided a lot. You get events to help you along (especially in HoI2). Still, winning battles requires you apply blitzkrieg tactics, which is something you have to figure out too.

Torenico:

Why don't you use your troops at the coast to break through to the north east and surround the allied troops around Zagreb? Seems to me, taking the coast will put you in a position you cannot possibly hold.

I ask because I read somewhere that the Panzer Lehr Division got crippled by allied airforce even before entering combat, so I presume that's those 4%, and it wasn't done by rockets but by bombs of not only Jabos but tactical bombers as well. Am I right?
No, in fact, the entire front was carpet bombed by B17s and B24s of the 8th airforce.
