The mod itself and Battlefield 2 launch just fine, and I can play single player on both. However, when I try to join any FH2 server, the game instantly when I click join crash to the desktop with a black flash. No error messages or anything. I have been able to play the mod for years before. It may also be worth mentioning that I can create LAN servers just fine. If I try to join empty servers the mod don't crash, but return me with the couldn't connect game error.
What I have tried:
- Fully re-install the mod, and using the repair function on the launcher.
- Tried using the manual installation by downloading the two files
- Changed graphics settings including resolutions and window mode.
- Double checked the installation steps for Steam users.
- Run the mod as Administrator.
- Added FH2 as exception in my Windows Firewall, and added the BF2 folder to the exceptions in Avast.
I run FH2 on Steam, and on a Windows 7 x64 system.

UPDATE:
After trying a few times the game finally gave me a error message.
"Runtime Error".
I have updated my microsoft visual redists but I still get this CTD.

Im having the same issue. I spent all day today installing windows 7 through boot camp, downloading all the files installing ect.. As soon as I double click a server it CTD with no error. Everything is in SP3 compatibility mode with admin privs.

Well ive tried to get onto a server a few times now. Eventually it just locked up and froze. I hit alt tab to minimize and when I tried to open it up again it finally showed an error.
C++ runtime error..
I wonder if it has to do with me running windows off of bootcamp. Any suggestions

I should also mention that I can load single player and play no problem. Its only when I try to get online. As soon as I double click its CTD

Yeah, and the weird thing is that I can create a server, or setup a LAN server just fine. It only happens when I try to connect to other online servers.

Gonna bump this - Still not solved.

if i can ask do u have a downloaded bf2 version or an original one?
because on my laptop i have a downloaded one that doesnt work either (with mp)
maby its a problem with ur cd key i saw somewhere on internet u can try this
click on the windows start menu
type regedit
click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then go to SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> Electronic arts -> EA GAMES -> Battlefield 2
in the ERGC folder click on REG_SZ type x9392 and add ur cd key in there no spaces or anything
click on ok and try again
( i never tried this method with my laptop but when my cdkey was doing wierd on pc i did this and it
seemd to help to)
not sure this will help but maby it will do the trick, because i got a feeling the crashing got something to do with a serial of the game (because when i got on both computers the same serial and i wanna play coop with friends one of them crashes to desktop somehow) but its just a guess

One method I've used to fix 2142 was to use another mods exe file and renaming it to bf2142.exe . Not sure if it's feasible but hey who knows what might happen.
Or just reinstall os and drivers that also works.

Just made another windows xp 32bit lite install for FH2 yesterday and I couldnt start game without CTD until I disabled a Human Interface Devices
"HID-complaint device" with the Details "HID\VID_181C&PID_0C04\7&320216A6&0&0000" in dev mgr.
Not sure if your case is the same, but you could try it out :-)

Id like to update my situation because i got it working. The mistake I made was that I installed BF2 through steam and then before launching it, I immediately installed FH2 as well.
When you install BF2 through steam, make sure you run it first before installing fh. Steam updates direct x and it also installed punkbuster for you.
