Hello everyone.
I have this probably very specific problem to which I have not found a solution that is satisfying to me, so I figured I'd ask if any of you guys know a better one. The situation is as follows:
My main monitor is 4k, which is nice for work etc, but I play my games generally at 1080p, because I highly prefer framerate over resolution. In most modern games, I run them at 4k but set the render resolution to 0.5x.
Now, the BF2 engine does not have such a setting, or at least I was unable to find one. Hence, I'd have to set the game to a resolution of 1080p. Which would be fine, except that I have a second monitor and all the placements of windows on it get messed up if the primary monitor changes its resolution.
So, my question would be, is there any better way to achieve BF2 being fullscreen (or borderless windowed) on my 4k monitor while having it render at 1080p?

Thank you very much!
- Phil.

I uploaded it for my friend, so I thought I'll share the link. User-friendly version as one file:

Singleplayer and Coop / Re: Singleplayer Maps

Afaik Bastogne, Hurtgen Forest and Vossenack do not have a navmesh and can't be played in SP/COOP.
ballard44 made navmeshes for Hurtgen and Vossenack. After installing these, you should be able to play Meuse, Hurtgen, Eppeldorf and Vossenack at least in COOP mode. But I don't know about a navmesh for Bastogne.

The ratio is calculated in a somewhat unintuitive way.
Steps to make it work:
1. mods/fh2/ai/aidefault.ai (respectively the aidefault.ai of the mod you want to run)
setMaxNBots must be the overall max. number of bots (both teams added together) [for example 32].
2. ServerConfig/whatever_servercon_you_use.con
coopBotRatio needs to be 100.
coopBotCount needs to be half the max. number [for example 16].
The trick: When the ratio is 100, coopBotCount will determine the number of bots on team 1 and the difference to the max. number (from aidefault.ai) will be on team 2.

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Good PC but not enough FPS?!
« on: 11-02-2012, 17:02:05 »
I always run FH2 as admin. Compatibility mode and disabling desktop composition didn't work either.
As an example:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/851/forgottenhope2201202111.png/
I had about 30 FPS there, but neither CPU nor GPU nor RAM were at 100%.

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/forgottenhope2201202111.png/
First one is the map, second one is the player list (32 bots + me, on local coop server).

EDIT:
It seems that other people with other mods experience the same problem:
http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr-bf2-support/103820-low-fps-overall-good-equipment-2.html
The first post on this page describes what happens in PR, and the same happens with FH2 on my PC.
EDIT2:
I found another thread that is very new: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f360-general-technical-support/106853-gpu-usage.html
I now tried completely removing my driver and re-installing it. But this didn't work either. Any other ideas?

Thanks, Phil.

2, 3 and 4 shouldn't be a problem as I stated above.
1. OS
But what can I do aboud that? Are there any options that I should enable/disable?

Thanks, Phil.

I can't test online since my internet connection is too slow. I only play coop in my LAN.
I wonder if it's maybe related to the AI (bug or sth.), but wouldn't that slow down the server and not the client? We recently played AIX, dedicated server running on a different machine (32 bots): Everyone's game worked well except for mine, I had the lags I described above (with processor over 50% idle, GPU using only 20-45%, 3GB free RAM, ping: 1-10ms).

Best regards, Phil.

I re-installed BF2, patched it and installed FH2.4, but still the same.
Lowering the in-game settings won't help, I already tried with lowest possible settings.

By max settings I mean in-game settings. I do not force any settings via Catalyst except for VSync.
The "smoke slowdowns" happen too (caused by 100% GPU usage because of the old engine like you said) but the slowdowns I have begin when there's just a group (5-10) of soldiers on my screen (and are not a result of high GPU usage).
I will try re-installing BF2 as soon as I have time and report back.

Thanks, Phil.

FH2 Help / Support / Good PC but not enough FPS?!
« on: 08-02-2012, 18:02:11 »
Hello guys. I really enjoy playing FH2.
A while ago I got a new motherboard and new RAM. I did a fresh install of Win7 x64 and BF2 1.5 as well as FH2.4.
My specs (short):
AMD Phenom II 4x3GHz
6GB (4GB+2GB) DDR2-RAM
AMD/ATI Radeon Hd 5770
When playing FH2 (or AIX) on maxed settings at 1920x1080 my FPS decrease when more is happening on my screen (not 100% if this is the only situation). The strange thing is, that my processor is 60% idling, my GPU only uses 20-45% power (depending on FPS) and I have 3GB of free RAM. Still, the FPS sometimes decrease to ~15 (my GPU then only uses 20-25%).
I force VSync with RadeonPro, but turning it off won't help.
I also tried re-creating the shaders, using min settings at 800x600 and defrag my HDD, but it didn't help.

I have no idea what the problem could be. Do you have any tips I could try?

Best regards, Phil.

Yes, the .con files are used, but the .py are not. That's what I tried to say.  ;)

But it still doesn't seem to have an effect.
I was a bit unclear: If I'm right, these python scripts will never get called from BF2. They were used by the devs to generate the HUD's .con files and were left in the zip file, but are never actually used by BF2. This means you can ignore these files 'cause they won't affect anything.
I just can't find the link to the AI.
I looked around in the .con files, but I couldn't find anything that looked like AI. But I don't know the BF2 engine very well.

Best regards, Phil.

It seems like these three Python files make.py, comm.py and data.py in menu_server.zip\HUD\HudSetup\Communication\Comms\ just generate some .con files used for the HUD, but they do not contain any code that acutally interacts with BF2.
I am a programmer (well, it's just a hobby), however I am not very familiar with Python, so I might be wrong.

or
admin.runNextLevel

Singleplayer and Coop / Re: performance improvement

I think I figured out the answers to my questions.
Here is what I did step by step for FH2 (but should work with any mod):
Open Program Files\Battlefield 2\mods\fh2\AI\AIDefault.ai with notepad
Back it up before proceeding!
Change aiSettings.setMaxNBots BOT_NUMBER to the total number of bots you want ingame.
Save it.

Go to Documents\Battlefield 2\ServerConfigs
- Open _serverSettings.con with notepad
Change sv.coopBotCount BOT_NUMBER to the half of the number you saved in AIDefault.ai
Change sv.coopBotRatio BOT_RATIO to 100
Change sv.coopBotDifficulty BOT_DIFF to the difficulty level you want (10-100)
Save it.
- Open _mapList.con with notepad
For each map write one line with MapList.append MAP_NAME gpm_coop MAP_SIZE
Note that MAP_NAME has to be the name of the map's folder and MAP_SIZE has to be valid.
Save it.

Open a command prompt
Execute cd "Your Install Folder Of\Battlefield 2"
And then Bf2_w32ded.exe +ai 1 +gameMode gamemode +config "@HOME@/ServerConfigs/_serverSettings.con" +mapList "@HOME@/ServerConfigs/_maplist.con" +modPath mods/fh2 +ignoreAsserts 1

Set the affinity of the process(es).
And don't forget to change AIDefault.ai back to it's original state.

Best regards, Phil.
