He means to say it's all shit wherever you go. Even though we're having this argument on high end computers, enjoying the warmth of our houses while wars are only fought on television anymore and we get texts from our 80 year old grandmothers, telling us how great the docters at the hospital are and that she's very happy she doesn't get medical bills. Except this extraordinary state of welfare though, the world nowadays is shit.

Which is the problem. Since they are no real problems people are instead "making up" problems to compensate. The result is that we now live in a world of moaners who are moaning for unimportant and irrelevant issues, totally ignoring what the hell there is going on in the rest of the world. So now we get to live in a world where you can't smoke, can't drink, can't have sex and can only eat a ration of meat a week since they are all harmful in a way. You are not allowed to make jokes about jews, moslims, blacks or indians because somebody might be offended. We live in a world where we throw or personal life on the internet, and then act shocked that governments spy on you, even though it has been a public secret for years.
And the EU fits perfectly in this, since all it does is moan. It knew the seeds of the current crisis where planted 15 years ago. What did it do ? Nothing, it just moaned about this and that, and all that bullcrap that is virtually irrelevant. I think the EU is a bad organisation, who only accomplished two things: (semi)open borders and the Euro.
To a certain extend it is comparable with the holy roman empire : a collection of autonomous states who are lead by a powerless puppet and only work together when all states benefit for the cause of it. The only real thing that connects them all is that they live on the same continent, and are biased upon the same religion. But the EU is far worse then the HRE since there now are 2 additional factors making matters even worse: politicians and lobbyists.
the first are all party bound, and since every fraction from every nation wants their say in the Eu, that means allot of politicians. and where there are politicians there are lobbyists with bags of money to throw into their faces. Nothing good can come of that: regulations are inexplicably delayed, some things that should be banned suddenly get allowed and visa versa.
The EU is slowly killing the common man. It is so over regulating the market that you'll need an army of solicitors just to do your paperwork to get anything done. Big companies approve, since they are the only ones who can actually afford those (and they are ofcourse the ones that lobby for them in the first place). trying to stamp out a business from scratch in the EU is becoming impossible. And people are not getting motivated to take the initiative: they bounce on a wall of rules, get demotivated, and get back to their vegetated state at home. Instead of creating jobs, the EU is abolish them en mass.
Just to give you an example how the EU works: for my thesis at university I did a research on a specific pathway of a bacteria that could reduce a certain potentially dangerous metabolite (created by another bacteria) of a certain pesticide and creating a GMO including the responsible gene for a pilotproject. I'm going to save you the details of what I did, but I will give you an example of the EU absurdity.
The pesticide substance we are talking about was banned in the EU since it was possible that a bacteria in the soil could transfer the normally immobile substance into a dangerous substance. ok fair enough. But at the same time it allowed the use of a pesticide using another chemical formula to be used instead. What's the catch ? Turns out it produces the same metabolite then the other pesticide. And reports about this have been published since 2004, the pesticide was allowed in 2010 with a licence for 15 years. They knew it would make no difference, but company B made sure that the pesticide of company A would be removed from the market because the most railway companies used it. So company B smashed some money to the EU to ban pesticide A and allow pesticide B, so they can resupply. They use health as an excuse, pocket in the money, and the situation remains unchanged.
