"Here be dragons"
A wonderful representation of a story of two former friends, who find themselves in the middle of Spanish Civil War. Little or no heroism, just life, as it could be for a rich dude who found himself among the fascists trying to restore his position in the society and for a priest, who is doing his duty of looking for christian souls in Madid in times of war.
What is peculiar about the movie is nice attention to detail (like the T-26 tankers speaking in Russian, although the whole background scene is no more than a few seconds), military equipment, which, luckily for all of us, is becoming a norm rather than something unusual as it used to be a few decades ago.
The final touch why I liked the movie is that the main character, who is on the fascist side, is shown as an utter scum (although some communist militiamen are not much better), while two other charismatic "good" characters are fighting on for other side. Given that I greatly sympathize with the Republicans, it was quite enjoyable
