Title: Starting problem
Post by: bobolo on 06-06-2011, 14:06:35
Hi folks, I have a problem with FH2. Well, I have downloaded both parts, installed them and when I try to launch FH2, system tells me that it crashed. I have BF2 1.5, I tried downloading both parts from different servers and it repeats all the time. I rebooted the system, and nothing changed. Adding to that, I don't have the FH2 in the Installed Programs list, despite installing it. I have Windows XP, and FH1 was running relatively well (except the Zielona Gora map, which crashed everytime I wanted to play it). Could you help me?

Hi and welcome, at what point does the program crash? And what version of BF2 do you own? (DVD, Downloader, or Steam?)
Iirc FH2 won't put an entry into your registry since the installer basically just unpacks the files to the correct folders.

Hi, program crashes at the time when I double-click the icon, then screen goes black, *ping* (sound), and error. My BF 2 is from DVD and it didn't make any problems since now.
Yeah, but FH1 IS in the registry, and FH2 isn't.

try starting fh2 in windowed mode (add "+fullscreen 0"  to the launch command in the fh2.exe shortcut

it then should deliver an error message that you can post here

Okay, but this is in Polish and I think you could not understand it. This is only that FH2 cracked and window asks me if I will send the problem to FH2 team (I did it twice). Nothing more.

I have had this same problem before. Always run as Admin before you do anything (right click on program, run as administrator). I beat this by reinstalling fh2, it only happens to me because i have other mods which mess around with shaders and other bf2 things. Meaning i have to reinstall battlefield and FH. Do you have any other mods installed or have you played with any BF files?

This. I have had this problem in the past and a complete Battlefield and FH2 reinstall fixed it. I think PR did it to me last time.

I don't have any other BF2 mods, but I'll try to reinstall it. I'll tell you what happened.

Sounds good, and yes pascucci, PR did this to me as well. Best thing is to reinstall everything. I recommend having all BF2 and FH2 Zip files on a disk in case you ever need to reinstall!

Ok, it's me again.
I reinstalled BF2 and FH2, and everything was OK. The game started, but when I was trying to load a map, it crashed and returned me to the desktop. It happens every time I want to start a map. What should I do?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: DLFReporter on 11-10-2011, 22:10:28
Be sure that you installed all patches for BF2.
First 1.41 then 1.5 and later the hotfix if you need it for alt-tabbing.
Other than that run FH2 in windowed mode by adding "+fullscreen 0" to your desktop short cut properties. This will enable you to see the error window that pops up just before BF2 closes.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: bobolo on 12-10-2011, 17:10:04
I have all patches installed.
And there is no error message. Game just closes and nothing more happens.

System specs?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: bobolo on 13-10-2011, 15:10:18
Windows XP SP3, AMD Athlon II X2 250, Nvidia Geforce GT 220, or you need a logfile maybe?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 14-10-2011, 08:10:38
So it's crashing when you try to load a map, when exactly is it crashing?

Does it crash as soon as you click on it?

Or does it crash after it starts loading? If so, what percentage does it crash at?

Have you tried clearing the cache?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: bobolo on 14-10-2011, 12:10:01
It's just like : I click "Load map" and boom, I'm back to the desktop.
And by the cache you mean browser cache or what?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: NTH on 14-10-2011, 12:10:59
You are playing Single player right? On which map does this happen, So I can recreate your problem.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 15-10-2011, 08:10:06
I'm not sure which one you need to clear (or if clearing it will help)...

Look in:
...My Documents\Forgottenhp 2\mods\bf2\cache

...My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\fh2\cache

Just delete the folder(s) inside the cache folder.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: bobolo on 15-10-2011, 17:10:51
Ok, I've tried clearing the cache, but the problem remains.

And I play single player, but as for the map, I thought at first that it's only one map crashing, but changing map doesn't make it better. Try "Invasion on Crete", maybe you would have the same problem.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 16-10-2011, 09:10:58
Whenever I've had a SP map crash during loading, it's usually because I've done something wrong while fiddling around in the map's server.zip.

I don't think I've ever seen one crash as soon as you click on it... :-\

Have you tried joining a server? Does the same thing happen?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: bobolo on 16-10-2011, 12:10:42
Oh, new thing : when I click "Multiplayer" I'm back to the desktop again... It's kinda annoying.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: DLFReporter on 16-10-2011, 13:10:46
Ok that can be due to firewall settings.
Have you tried running it in windowed mode for the error message?
Which version of BF2 do you own? A DVD, Downloader or Steam Version?

Good evening, creators of the modification. I would like to ask you why I have the game become unstable. There are inhibition of the game a duration of 1 second. The gap between the braking is 4 seconds. I have a lot of mods and only slows down your mod. The game is very interesting and I would like to have your modification was stable. Here is my computer:
  computer:
Operating system Microsoft Windows XP Professional
       DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
       CPU Type DualCore AMD Athlon II X2 250, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
        Mat board BIOSTAR A770E3 AM3 AMD 770 4DDR3 PCIEx16 4SATA2
        DiMM1: Samsung M378B2873FH0-CH9 1GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (8-8-8-22 @ 609 MHz) (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-17 @ 457 MHz)
       DIMM2: Samsung M378B2873FH0-CH9 [TRIAL VERSION]
Video adapter NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 (1024 MB)
Audio Adapter Realtek ALC662 @ ATI SB750 - High Definition Audio Controller
      HDD 750 WD (7 200) 32MB
       Power supply for 450W
I have these problems with your mod came a year ago and I think that will be a new patch and the problem will be solved. But it turns out that it has not disappeared

Problems with these modifications do not.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: DLFReporter on 10-11-2011, 07:11:43
I believe your problem is your RAM.
2GB is fairly low even for standard BF2 and FH2 is static, map and game wise at the very limit of what the BF2 engine can handle.

Other than that, it could also be rubberbanding and lag which you are describing, but that would also effect other mods.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: Krätzer on 10-11-2011, 08:11:31
FH2 needs much more Resources then the other Mods.

Today I bought another 2 more GB of RAM (I bought two strips of 1 GB). Now I have 4 GB of RAM. The problems have not disappeared.

Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 11-11-2011, 07:11:36
Are you having this problem while playing online?

Or is it in Singleplayer/Coop?

Having too many bots in SP/Coop will cause the game to lag.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: andrej_111 on 14-11-2011, 11:11:44
I play in a single mission . Changed the number of bots and the brakes are gone. Changed the number of bots on 4 and I did not see brake. Changed the number of bots to 30, and brakes become clearer. Tell me if you can solve problems with the number of bots? . Otherwise play with 10 bots in your game is not interesting.
Title: Re: Starting problem

I is 4 GB of RAM. Is not it enough?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 14-11-2011, 11:11:11
Lots of bots need lots of CPU power.

There is a way to set up your game to run a BF2 server on one of your CPU cores, and the game on the other.

This basically takes most of the load caused by the bots off the core you are playing the game on.

There's instructions on how to do it buried in a thread somewhere in the Singleplayer section, I had a quick look but couldn't find it.

I'm about to crash, so I'll have a proper look for them tomorrow.

If I understand you correctly then I need to run the game on a single core processor.? I started the game on a single core processor and nothing has changed.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: andrej_111 on 15-11-2011, 07:11:45
I opened the Task Manager, right-click on the processor --- to match a CPU 1 or CPU 0
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: andrej_111 on 15-11-2011, 07:11:05
I have now installed 24 in-game bot and game slowed down. In the other modifications is 30 bots and the game is stable.

No what I mean is, BF2 is a single core game (it only uses one core).

This means you can start the BF2 server (bf2_w32ded.exe), set it to run on one core, then you start FH2 and set it to run on the other core.

Then you connect to the server ingame (Join Local).

Here's the thread: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=14093.0

You might have to spend a bit of time setting it up, but it does work.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: andrej_111 on 15-11-2011, 11:11:26
I apologize for giving false information. I rechecked the dependence of the lags in the game on the number of bots and came to the conclusion that there is no dependence. Is there a bot in game one, or many (30 for example), it lags occur. I just figured that there are lags in 7 seconds and last for a second.

Post by: andrej_111 on 15-11-2011, 12:11:19
One more question. I started online gaming - the local server coop mode. Set the number of bots 20. When the game started, I write this sentence: The game starts when one player will be added. How do I play in coop mode?

Hm, as far as I can tell BF2 runs fine. I used default install for FH2 (it´s in the Mods folder) and my system specs are

Athlon II 2 x 220 processor 2.80 GHz
3 GB RAM
64 bit.
Title: Re: Starting problem

Which version of BF2 are you running? Steam/EA Downloader or the DVD Edition?
Have you updated your Graphic-card driver lately? Are you running FH2 and BF2 from your Programs folder on your main disc and haven't deactivated the Win7 UAC?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: JEELEN on 24-11-2011, 12:11:47
I have the DVD, updated to latest version. I did update graphics yesterday, but no difference. And I´m using the quickstart button, as suggested. (And I´ve no idea what a Win7 UAC is lol).
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 25-11-2011, 08:11:47
UAC (User Account Control) doesn't really do anything useful.

You can turn it off by going into Control Panel>Action Center, options are under Security.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: JEELEN on 25-11-2011, 08:11:54
OK. But I don´t see how that relates to my error message...
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: DLFReporter on 25-11-2011, 09:11:20
OK. But I don´t see how that relates to my error message...

Win7 is very frigid when it comes to programs trying to move/alter stuff in the "C:/Programs/" Folder.
As FH2 changes some Shaders in the BF2.exe it can happen that Win7 blocks this and then you can get your error.

Either install BF2+FH2 to some other directory than /Programs or try switching off Win7 UAC.
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: JEELEN on 25-11-2011, 20:11:54
UAC on/off didn´t make a diff. I don´t suppose simply moving BF2 will be enough?
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: cannonfodder on 26-11-2011, 05:11:23
That'd be too easy... ;)

If you want to play online, simply moving it won't work and you'll need to reinstall...

Although SP/Coop (offline) should still work after you move it.

Jeelen, my guess is wrong FH2 installation path. Can you upload your FH2 and BF2 shortcuts (.lnk files on  the desktop) and list of files in BF2 folder (e.g. as screenshots of Explorer)?

Here's tutorial how to save screenshots: http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows (http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows) (see chapter "Print Screen Method"). Then attach created file(s) to your new forum post.

EDIT: When saving screenshots, please choose PNG file format, there's a limit on attachment size on the forum and PNG files are small.

Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: gavrant on 29-11-2011, 18:11:42
If you make screenshot by pressing "Prt Sc" on keyboard, then it's stored in memory, you need a program to save it in some folder, e.g. standard Windows Paint.

But let's start with shortcuts you use to launch FH2 and BF2 and then move to screenshots, if it won't help.

I have the same problem with the directx issue.... my computer is fairly new and up to date... I can play BF2 with no problem ... but when trying to start FH2 , I receive the error that I need to install DX9c, witch I already have.
I have figured out that if I start BF2 and go into "Community" -> "Custom Games" then activate FH2... then it will work... there must be an issue with a missing dx9 file with the FH2 install..
Title: Re: Starting problem
Post by: DLFReporter on 16-12-2011, 16:12:42
That sounds like your game isn't accessing the FH2.exe in it's folder. Could it be that you installed FH2 under your C:\Programs\ folders and are using Win7 with it's Win7 UAC activated?
Try deactivating it and/or installing BF2 to another folder on c directly or on another HD in all.
