I wouldn´t say that he´s truly evil. He´s more out for personal gains and does everything to improve his own position, including betraying and manipulating those who trust him.
While Varys for example claims to do everything he does for the sake of the realm, Littlefinger is motivated by gaining as much power as possible by any means necessary.
This of course, doesn´t make him a "good guy" but still a highly interesting and fascinating character. It´s lots of fun to follow him but I wouldn´t want to be in his crosshairs if I were an ASoIaF character. ^^
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

Littlefinger is probably the character I like least. He creeps me out. Everything he says are just lies to further his goals. And while in that respect he's quite like Cersei, at least Cersei is predictable. Littlefinger is not. He's probably the most dangerous character in the books.

Lots of people seem to prefer Littlevinger above Varys. I personally just adore Varys. Of course that realm talk is bullshit, but the conversation near the dragon skulls makes it all clearer.

Ah, but that's where most of his victims fall into his trap where they see Cersei's coming. Not everything is a lie. Blackmail doesn't work that well if the leverage is a lie. He's too smart that let that happen ;D

Varys is a bit like him, but more focused on survival, not so much gain. If you make people really like you, they find it hard to meddle with you. Littlefinger cares less about that, he's got a castle full of leverage to protect him. I don't trust either of them hehe, but I sure as hell don't trust Varys, it's a front, a mask.

Man, slow day at work, I should have brought part I ;)

Varys follows quite another goal.
Let´s just say, that there´s another contestor for the Iron Throne, one who has a better claim than all Lannister-offspring and Cersei. And Varys wants him on the throne, because he´s convinced he´d be a better ruler than the alst few kings. ;)

Speaking of kings. I´m not sure if Rhaegar Targaryen would´ve been such a great king, as some always say. Too bad we will never find out...

Too kind perhaps, like Aegon the Unlikely.

You'd have a blood-thirsty homicidal ten-year-old on the throne?

Well a good, honest, efficient and chivalrous King would be a bit boring, right?

We saw how much joy the reign of Joffrey I. has brought over Westeros and its smallfolk. :D

Robert I. reign on the other hand was relatively peaceful except for the odd rebellion or two, but nearly ruined the realm, so both have their pros and cons.

Pretty good version of the House Targaryen family tree. Really usefull if you want to know more about the former rulers of Westeros. Might contain some minor spoilers, but also cool pics.

Daemon Blackfyre (and his line), Brynden Rivers and Aegon V have all sweet sweet lore written about them, but sadly it would most likely spoil something. Especially Brynden Rivers' :/

Some information about characters who's appearance in series 3 is confirmed:

- Princess Shireen, the daughter of King Stannis.
- Meera Reed, the daughter of Howland Reed, the lord of Greywater Watch of the Neck. Lord Howland is a loyal ally of Ned Stark and one of his best friends.
- Jojen "Little Grandfather" Reed, Meera's little brother.
- Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully, younger brother of Lord Hoster Tully. Lord Hoster is Lady Catelyn's father.
- Edmure Tully, son of Hoster Tully, younger brother of Lady Catelyn.
- Mance Rayder, the King-Beyond-the-Wall
- Olenna "Queen of Thorns" Tyrell
- Beric Dondarrion, leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners. Ned Stark sent him to arrest The Mountain in    A Game of Thrones.
- Thoros of Myr, a red priest and member of the Brotherhood Without Banners. Was the fist to go over the walls of Pyke during Balon Greyjoy's first rebellion. Fights with a burning sword.
- Tormund Giantsbane, a chieftain amongst the free men and part of Mance Rayder's "court".
- Vargo "The Goat" Hoat, leader of the Brave Companions sellsword company (also known as Bloody    Mummers behind their backs). Should not ride a horse in the series.

Important characters still missing are most notably Lem, Tom O'Sevens, Zollo, Qyburn and pretty much everyone from Astapor.

Otherwise I'm quite happy about the casting at the moment.
