Game of Thrones
« on: 27-03-2012, 23:03:15 »
Series 2 starting soon, I guess we have use for a thread.

Game of Thrones is an epic fantasy television series by HBO. It is based on A Song of Ice And Fire, a series of books by the American author George R. R. Martin. The first series, based on the first book A Game of Thrones, aired last spring. The second series, based on the second book A Clash of Kings starts airing on April 1, 2012.

I'm a huge fan of the books, and I must say that the TV series comes pretty close in general awesomeness. It follows the story surprisingly well without any major alterations. And most of them are understandable; Hodor and Ser Gregor Clegane should be a good meter taller, Stark boys are two years older than in the book, adult direwolves should be the size of a small horse... But good job doing that without some kind of black magic. (Damn maegi from Asshai and such..!)

Here are the trailers I managed to find:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzVSchaagNg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOzXsqoJhtE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV3RflsNxak
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X66PDW1Mjf8

I was rather disappointed by the lack of large battles in series 1, but it might change now. For George R. R. Martin himself wrote an episode concerning... a rather large battle... not to spoil anything, of course. He was worried how they could get all the money to film what he wrote. ;)

Apart from the thing mentioned above I'm looking forward to see few certain scenes with Tyrion, Brienne "The Beauty" of Tarth and of course Arry. Valar Morghulis and so forth.

Long story short: Game of Thrones. Series 2. HBO. Next Sunday.

And NO SPOILERS.

Ive read the books.

My very short comments.:  Season 1 was great, coulb it be better ? Offcourse.

Adapting several books into a movies/series is always complicated but i can say that they did a good job with the first season. Big action battles were expected but its a 1st season, every book adapted tv series needs to take a solid first step at the beginning at they did that.

Solid, firm and enjoyable. Everyone is eager for season two,

And so im I.   8)

By the way, I already read A Clash of Kings, so I thought I could freely watch the season 2 trailers, but apparently there are parts of A Storm of Swords in season 2, so spoilers be ware if you haven't read it yet, like me.

Almost exploding from anticipation though.

Screw the winter, dragons are coming. All hail Daenerys Targaryen, the true ruler of Westeros!

Please no spoilers in the thread, I haven't read all the books yet. But I heard for the battle season 2, they had to call in all favors to do it. I did not mind season 1, how they just showed the end of the battle as a way to cut costs.

I for one didn't really miss the great battles in general - however what I disliked -I hope I don't mix things up now, its been a few years since I read the books (well, except for the Dance of Dragons, obviously)- that they "cleverly" made Tyrion pass out before the first big battle between the Lannisters and the Starks. I was a little disappointed, because I would have liked to see the badass battlemaster Tyrion rocking the battlefield, that was a nice and somewhat surprising scene in the books.  ;) Very excited about this sunday, though.

On a sidenote, today I ordered the 2nd Edition of the board game - "Der Eiserne Thron" / The Iron Throne is the german title, together with two friends. I didn't play the 1st Edition, as I'm not quite a sucker for board games, but all I've read so far was positive, so I'm really anxious about that as well.  :)

Screw the winter, dragons are coming. All hail Daenerys Targaryen, the true ruler of Westeros!

Fire and Blood!

Plus, I'm really looking forward (yeah, to a lot of things, I realize that now) to... a certain character, not really a spoiler, and I suppose she could be seen in the trailers, but I'll put it in an unmeaning image link, so nobody has to see it who doesn't want to. I really like that character.  8)

Midgets usually have bad balance and awkward movement. Perhaps they thought they couldn't make it look good.

....................................................And NO SPOILERS.

That's one already, because 'it's so cool and reassuring he directed that episode himself'.

Anyway. Next weekend. I was going to watch the previous ten in advance, but I seem to remember quite a bit. They released a new recap called Game Of Thrones You Win Or You Die. It's actually more of an interview reel than a recap. I'm so pleased they are constantly using strong veteran actors, instead of the usual shallow 25-somethings that only look pretty.

And then it went on getting more and more exciting and i loved it. Cant wait for season 2 :)

If you have read the book, you know exactly what battle I mean and what happens. Hardly a spoiler.

If you have not read the book, yes, there will be a battle! Hardly a spoiler.
