Modding / [WIP] Calais Nord
« on: 16-12-2009, 17:12:20 »
This is, at the moment, largely a placeholder topic to keep discussion and updates about my first FH2 map, Calais Nord. As the name suggests, it's going to be focused on a small sector of Calais Nord, the last area in which British troops were active during the Siege of Calais. As such, here is the basic idea of the map:

- Small (512 by 512)
- Urban with some areas of green open space
- Infantry-focused
- Push mode, Germans on the offense
- Very limited tank use - maybe a PzIV and PzIII each for the German side
- I am toying with the idea of having a Matilda II spawn in the British base when their penultimate flag is captured, and a Stuka spawning for the Germans at an air base, to simulate the last ditch defense and incoming air raids that ended the siege - this will require coding that I've yet to even look into though so no promises

I'm using Google maps of Calais Nord, as aerial pics of the street structure of Calais circa 1940 have been difficult to get hold of.

WIP pictures will be up as soon as I have some worth uploading, and any feedback, advice or request is more than welcome.

Off-Topic / Battlefield... Hope? BF: Heroes, the early days
« on: 24-11-2009, 00:11:35 »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01N4zFNX99E

I saw this video just now showcasing early playtests of BF Heroes. Couldn't help but notice the following:
a) their BF109 placeholder has a distinctive tropical fuel tank underneath it...
b) ...and is labeled 'borrowed from mod'
c) as is the Jeep
d) as is the Kubelwagen

In case you are very thick, all of the above are imported from FH2. Take a look! Fascinating stuff. How was the deal done, devs?

Suggestions / British Thompson Use
« on: 14-09-2009, 12:09:28 »
I know I'm digging up an old chestnut here and it really seems quite minor, but here goes.

As evidence has been found indicating some Canadian use of the Thompson M1A1 in Normandy, it's justifiable that they have it for their NCO kit. However, I've never been able to find any concrete evidence that British units were by and large issued with Thompsons rather than Stens anywhere in Normandy - Italy and other 'secondary fronts' yes, but on D-Day and later I've never seen a Brit with a Thompson. It always bugged me that British officers had Thompsons in FH1, and I'm again puzzled as to why they have them in FH2.

But please, if there is evidence that supports British (not Canadian) use of the Thompson, show me it. It'd put my mind at rest every time I look at the British spawn screen (which, IMO, is spoiled somewhat by the harshly different metal and wood colours on the M1A1 after the similarly coloured No4s, PIAT, Bren and Sten guns).

FH2 Help / Support / Fix for the Alt + Tab crash
« on: 07-09-2009, 20:09:10 »
Technically of course this is a Vanilla patch, but as the issue is from the vanilla 1.50 itself and is affecting all of us, I figured people might want to take a look:

I haven't tested it yet but it is from DICE themselves so it should work. (I can't believe I just said that)

About time too, in my view. Should help end the demonisation of all German soldiers as Nazi scumbags and show them as suffering soldiers like any other, especially in Stalingrad.

Modding / Swastika Mod

This isn't my work, but I saw it on BF2Files and figured people here would want to see it.

Looks pretty decent, I have yet to try it out online though. Should be good for all the historical-accuracy nuts round here.

Apologies if this has been posted before, I searched and nothing came up.

WARNING: There is some confusion as to whether this will work with PunkBuster. Download at your own risk until this is confirmed or denied by the development team.

Suggestions / Command vehicles in Normandy?
« on: 30-03-2009, 23:03:38 »
This is less of a suggestion thread and more of a 'soliciting suggestions' thread - I remembered just now that the Dorchester, at least on the German and American sides, cannot be used in Normandy for historical reasons. The Germans could get the command 251 (that was apparently lost in an HDD crash...) but what would the Americans use? I've genuinely no clue on this one. From what I can gather the British could use an updated Dorchester.

So, any suggestions for American command vehicles? Or Soviet, Italian, Japanese et cetera ones if people have a particular knowledge of them. And most importantly, what do the devs intend to use in 2.2 and beyond?
