Title: "Greese gun" and other machine guns
Post by: Prince of Judah on 08-11-2011, 03:11:44
I am horrible with all rapid fire firearms. I can't hit much of anything with them. The Greese gun is the worst. It should be called the sludge gun. It has such a painfully slow rate of fire, this is combined with the bad kick and low damage. I just started playing this mod after a very long time. Even then I wasn't very good at the game. Is there any way I can improve my kill rate with rapid fire weapons? Practice is the wrong answer, so don't say that. ^_^

If you happen to play with high ping, game is pretty much lost. Otherwise, I would suggest to start training with mp40 or beretta. Both guns have rather easy recoil to handle. Unlike with bigger guns I always shoot full auto with smg's, even to longer ranges as often quantity wins quality. After first few rounds, it's actually quite easy to hold sights on target.

And yes, grease gun is horrible, next time pick a BAR.

Try to learn to compensate for the upwards recoil with your mouse. It helps. It's not easy to get good at, but at least it gives you the feeling that you're not firing out of control. And, like back on LV-426, fire in short controlled burst.  ;)
In case of the grease gun youll start to appreciate it's slower rate of fire after a while.

And, why not:
The grease gun is of course not a machine gun.

See that controlled burst thingy is one I disagree. It might work in real life, but in fh I feel that first few rounds after first round are "out of control" but I could easily shoot rest of mag to target.

The line probably came from the old U.S. Army study that showed that beyond an average of three rounds, bursts fired from a M16 rifle went uncontrollably off-target (and as a result, the next M16 variant removed the full-auto firing mode altogether in order to save ammo and maintain firing discipline). Of course, this was with an assault rifle that was designed to direct its recoil backwards (minimizing the tendency of the barrel to rise with it), instead of a submachine gun that was designed to clean the room/next section of trench.

What also makes the FH2 recoil different from IRL is that in real life, you can "prepare" for the recoil by tensing your muscles, but each successive shot makes maintaining that control more difficult. In FH2, you can only correct the actual recoil, which is also only an approximation of reality. Once you find the right speed to pull back your mouse, you can keep the gun on target indefinitely, but the first few rounds will miss before you find the right speed.

Appropriate settings for these 2 sliders under sensitivity slider improve much using smgs.  ;)

Theta I think your formula for victory is wrong. No offense, but I have tried that and it doesn't seem to work for me.

then you use it wrong. When i fire the greasegun, i automaticly aim down with my mouse. works well

Admitted, the Greasegun has much more recoil then it has IRL though

I tend to use Kelmola technique's, that is pulling down your mouse slowly as you press the fire button.

That should reasonably negate the recoil effect and put your bullets across a sizable target area.

That's the whole point of Fh2s gunplay. if you don't move your mouse it means your character is holding the weapon in slack arms like a girl, not leaning into the recoil or anything.

Do you aim below the target before the first shot?

No you aim directly at the target and move down the mouse while holding down the trigger.

Alright I'll try that. Normally I just fire single shots. Does this apply to all submachine guns?

It applies to all weapons in FH2. You need to counter act the recoil. If you don't move the mouse it is like holding the gun in slack arms and just letting loose.
