Gattacta

8/10

One of the best Sci-fi movies I've ever seen, with good moral and ethical points, but the ending was too artistic for my liking.

Ah, Gattaca. I agree, it's a great Scifi classic, which I found myself watching to understand all the references you see these days in discussions about stem cell research and the like. To my pleasant surprise it was an excellent movie.

Definitely a much more thoughtful movie than your average scifi. :)

As for my latest movie, that was HP6.

Now, Ive been a fan of Harry potter since about the time the third book came out, and have releigiously read most of the books multiple times. I say most, because I found the sixth book so lame I didnt bother to read seventh. Much of this has to do with my reading more adult books with much better characters and plots etc., meaning I've simply grown out of the series. But a significant portion was the actual book itself. I'm not gonna get into why I didnt like the book, just understand that I was going into the movie without much excitement.

The movie itself was well shot, with acceptable acting, and covered the main plot and some side stories as well as one would expect from 2.5 hours. Thats about it.

From the first movie it was clear that they would be nothing but highlight reels from the books, and this one faithfully continues this tradition. The CGI was pretty, and the action was as intense as you can expect from the Harry Potter universe...5/10

On a side note, am I the only one that was pining for some bloody and deadly attacks every time there was some fighting? Too much anime I suppose...

The Godfather
- You can't get closer to a perfect movie. The only thing I may remark is the fighting scene in the middle of the movie.

9 out of 10 (and then I'm a little bit harsch!)

The Godfather Part II
- The perfect movie. The king of the whole new American wave of movies from the 70's. The best movie made. Jumping between the now and present in the Corleone family.

10 out of 10 (no doubt about it)

The Thin Red Line

I am not sure what to make of this film. It's a cinematic masterpiece. It's obviously strongly influenced by 1980s Vietnam films, but...it is also based on the 1962 novel by James Jones, and James Jones fought in the actual battle of Mount Austen that is portrayed in the film. I guess I'll have to read his novel to come to firmer conclusions on this matter.

In short, I really don't know what to make of a WW2 movie that questions the morality of fighting WW2.

Just seen Valkerie on Dvd. It's ok, it gets the story over well to those unaware I guess. I've seen similar and as good drama documentaries about the plot on History channels. 7/10  Eddie Izzard? As a German officer eh?  ;D

And also saw Bronson on Dvd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s59k4rhzWgo
It's about Charles Bronson a long term violent prisoner, based on a true story. I've read the book which the film is loosley based on, the film is ok ends a bit abruptly and leaves a lot of stories out, but has some entertaining scenes. 6/10

Saw Dead Snow on.... my "TV" the other day, it is a B-movie from norway about some kids (general lineup: hottie, emo-girl, nerd guy, pretty face boy, sports jock, every-day-dude) who is taking a trip to a cabin in the mountains. Well, the movie is famous for one thing and one thing only: NAZI-ZOMBIES and they are there... oh boy are they there...

I see alot of zombie movies, I try to watch 'em all but sometime it is simply unwatchable, due to... not bad special effects or bad acting or bad story, I can live (and quite enjoy) all of that, it is just when it is so bad, it feels like someone has basically just stolen a videocamera and run out to shoot some scenes... Dead Snow gave me this feeling the first 10 or so minutes, and I felt bad for the norwegians making this movie (and Im jealous they made a zombie movie before us!).
But:: If you endure the painful first 10minutes when they "introduce the characters" and see past the scene when the old weird dude busts in to their cabin and tells the "legend" of the mountain, then I assure you some fun and pretty good standard zombie time for the rest of the movie, well worth watching.
I would give it a 5.5/10 which puts it way above "turn off after 5min" and makes it border almost to a normal movie. some scenes are pretty damn cool and innovative, and the music and editing is not bad all.. quite hilarious awful norwegian music tbh. The actual NAZI ZOMBIE carnage is world-class also, good job there!

Cloverfield

A well deserved 8.5/10

I saw this movie its trailer in the past.It was pretty mysterious. Now, i felt like renting it. First off i was like=Fuck, cool, a boring scene.  So this fat guy goes around a party with a camera for so long,  Yawn
Then, brooom    like an earthquake. Then things get mysterious and pretty sick. All the way till the end.
The "Shaky camerawork" style is pretty intense. Its really breathtaking

And when the action finnaly started i was like=Yo dude terrorist attack!   yo  DUDE !What is!DUDE  WHAT the DEUCE is that?

Good movie. It aint lengthy though. Me want more of this!
-i am fairly sure that if they took porn off the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called bring back the porn "Perry cox, Scrubs.

Hamburger Hill

A movie about the battle for Ap Bac Mountain, South Vietnam, May 10-20, 1969.

The 101st Airborne made 11 assaults on the heavily defended mountain before finally capturing it, taking heavy casualties and virtually wiping out the NVA 29th Regiment.

The movie on the other hand has wooden acting, little to no character development, stereotypical characters, and poorly choreographed battle scenes.

4/10

The Godfather Part III
- A good movie, no doubt. But, it's no where near Part I or II. Some classical scenes (the grand finale) and some classical quotes (Just when I thought I was..). But, some scenes are just horrible (everyone with Sofia Coppola) and some of the more violent scenes are just laughable and stupid (glasses wtf).

Still, a good flick but nowhere near the class of the first or specially the second part

Danny Deckchair

Awesome movie, confused guy with boring life has many crazy ideas and finally decided to take helium balloons and float off, he starts a new life somewhere else while his girlfriend is lifting on publicity at home.

Inspired on Lawnchair Larry  :D

Personally it's 1 of my favourites, I love it.

Fried green tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe
- Watchable, but a enormous chickflick.

Not as much as The Notebook (the king of chickflicks).

Watched this last night, thought it was bollocks.  You know you're in for a real treat when Tom Cruisey starts talking german and then as if by magic "autotranslatecon" transforms everything else into English.
Felt tom cruise was the wrong person to play stauffenberg, he's too big an actor, too cardboard, too fucking Tom cruise ffs.  The guy who played Hitler, for his brief appearences and dialect upstaged him, - there is a bit where Stauffenberg asks Hitler to sign the amended Operation Walküre orders and you can tell that at this point in the war Hitler is detached from what is really going on and in a world of his own, then in just one second of airtime Hitler upstages Tom Cruise again with just a look, - when Stauffenberg plants the bomb and is reintroduced to Hitler, the Fuhrer gives him a glance as if to say "I have no idea who you are, I don't remember you - btw I am completley insane +1+1!"  The guy who did that managed to convey all that personality that we assume of Hitler at the time, whereas Tom Cruise, blundered through being Tom Cruise, looking only midly like stauffenberg and doing his usual Team America Acting.

Eddie Izzard as a german officer.  pfft.  shite.

REVIEW Operation Walküre

Tom Cruise delivering yet more stunning method acting to historical characters really takes on the task in his new blockbuster Operation valkaryie.  Sources say that Cruise, having managed to harness the power of time travel using Katie Holmes's tears, was able to go back in time to March 1943 and meet Stauffenberg coaching Stauffenberg on how to be just a bit more Tom Cruise.  In a bold move Cruise remoulded Stauffenberg to be a cardboard hollywood actor, unable to produce fluid dialogue, only capable of long stares into nothing and shouting when the word "emotive" was penned into the script.

We need a SPR II or a remake of Stalingrad.  WWII films since SPR just aren't cutting the cheese for me right now.  And no, I hated Enemy at the Gates.

I quite enjoyed Valkyrie. Not the Tom Cruise story, but the goose stepping nazi side of the movie. When they occupied and arrested the top leaders and set up roadblocks etc. was very enjoyable, albeit too short. I also always enjoy watching their fanaticism as they shoot themselves and such (also in der Untergang).

At the end I wish they had mistakenly used real bullets when they executed Mr. Cruise so I would never have had to see his sorry ass again.

6/10 - Worth watching for the Wehrmacht scenes but other then that, meh.
