Free to play and not so much of pay to win. I've been playing this game for a bit now and I find it really entertaining. You can go high in ranking with basic cards if your game knowledge is good and skills up to par.

Off-Topic / European vs American gaming
« on: 09-09-2014, 02:09:32 »
I stumbled on this article

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-08-13-what-european-developers-need-to-know-about-american-online-gamers

and I'm curious what you guys think and if it's somehow representative when it comes to yanks.

I for one see a big difference in gamers attitude towards games depending on age. I agree with the article statement that internet shortens attention span - noticed it with myself unfortunately.

Oh, and there's also this vaguely connected shit (which may give you cancer).

General Discussion / Need players for promoting FH
« on: 17-09-2013, 23:09:38 »
Hello Forgotten Hope community!

Do you want to help in the good fight and spread the word about FH2? Well, this Friday (20th September)17.00-21.00 GMT (19-23 Central Europe) I'll have the pleasure to play with Shake Bake (he made THIS ) and show him around the battlefield. But I'll need your help with that - as you know a squad of two is not the best way to experience full potential of this mod.

What I need is around 6-8 players. If you want to join, just post your in game nick below and what you're good at.

Criteria:

- you know English well enough to understand comments via TS
- you have TS3 installed
- preferably you have a working microphone (if not you can still join)
- have a decent understanding of the game
- you're a team player!

Also I'll need a good pilot for any CAS.

I'll send you a PM about details if you're up to task :P

See you on the battlefield... and youtube.

EDIT: I plan to play on 128 euro server during peak time, sorry for lack of info.

Recently I decided to play some Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (as no new Star Wars titles are on the horizon). Got it running on windows 7 - the game is from 2002 based on quake III engine - and chose a hard difficulty since the 'normal' difficulty these days is somewhat below challenging. Boy, oh boy, was this a challenge to get through the first levels (before you get The Force).

The steering was odd at first: very fast movement and high jump with the ever characteristic 'omph' sound. "Bullets" if they hit strafing stormtroopers didn't do much damage. On the receiving end it wasn't so rosy, basically quick load count was too damn high. Yet it didn't deter me from playing and it brought a nice nostalgia feeling but most important of all - it made me realize how much games have changed. Design and target/ideology wise.

In short, games are pass the point every big industry goes through these days - broadening consumer base*.

Just like film industry that creates movies according to the same recipe that every simpleton will understand and won't get offended to. The worst thing of it all that it works - and investors love chart results. This vicious cycle, given enough time, brings an equation -> high budget = no guts, no character.

Fortunately games have better means of distribution with internet and crowd funding most people can find something unique - just not AAA titles.

I could write much more but I think a discussion will pick up from this point.

Off-Topic / "Polish" concentration camps
« on: 25-01-2013, 21:01:23 »

I really try to avoid any history topics but this just irritates me to no end. "The Times" and "Daily Mail" put the exact same words again after the fuss our embassy made overseas on the topic not so long ago. I mean, how hard is to write "nazi concentration camp located in Poland". It starts to look like some kind of agenda lately as there are more examples of that phrase being carelessly put into articles. What do you guys think?

Hands down the best game of 2012 in my opinion. The story is so compelling and it really shows how to make a great game with some very simple components.

I didn't see the TV series nor I've read the comic but that's probably for the best to have as much experience from the game.

Community Polls / Gameplay speed
« on: 27-01-2011, 21:01:09 »
Since we have 'questions to community' season right now, I'll take the chance to satisfy my curiosity with this poll. I'm wondering how do you percieve the speed gameplay in FH2.

Speed of gameplay means how fast things around you resolve. Is the combat too quick? Do you have to wait too long for assets and respawn? Does travelling take too much time or maybe it's too fast?

All these question combine so choose wisely. If combat is too fast but you think that you wait for something too long you'll have to decide which is it for the overall feel of gameplay.

Please share your opinions.

Community Polls / What FH2 is/should be about?
« on: 21-07-2010, 00:07:24 »
It seems that many of us have different concept of what FH2 is or should be. Everyone strive for a different thing and this might the root of many misunderstandings in this forum.

For me it's "something else" and I call that thing 'consistency'. FH2 should strive for movie like feeling of awesome. This is achieved by immersion and smoothness of gameplay (the less things drag you out of immersion the better). The feeling of 'real' warfare dragged me into FH1. I know it wasn't truly 'real' but it felt like it. No over complicated intetaction system reminded me that it's a game. Larning on the battlefield all dos and don'ts was the thing that kept me playing. Easy to learn yet challenging system filled my nerdy life with nights of joy.

I'm not saying that FH2 should be a copy of FH1, far from that. But Fh2 should strive for consistency in it's gameplay backed by smoothnes and immersion. If it feels like WW2 even for history nerds does it really matter that there are a couple of historical inaccuracies (even bigger ones)?

What is your take on the matter?

EDIT:

fun = easy basics, "light" type of gameplay, things that are not over complicated but are juuust right.

Suggestions / The Bandage Medic
« on: 27-06-2010, 14:06:03 »
This one has been discussed probably too many times already but what the heck, I'll give it a try.

First of all I want you to think of a medic as of someone who prevents a player from death and not someone who resurrects like in bf2.

Medic would be a spawnable and limited class with a pistol, bandages and a medic bag maybe. The trick for it to being useful is to make all othr classes get rid of bandages or make their bandages heal only a small part of health (just in case you unluckily fall of a wall or get a bad collision). So when one gets wounded and starts to bleed he need's a medic if he don't want to die. The medic gets informed with mini and 3d map and he recieves points for healing a teammate (obviously). Let's call that type of maedic the 'bandage medic'.

Unfortunately there is not so many "bleed out" situations where most rifle hits are 1s1k so here comes another kicker for gameplay. Lowering (even more than now) the damage over distance with rifles would create more "bleed out" situations. The alternative would be to make rifles make 97% or more damage when hit to the torso. It still would be 1s1k in most cases becase people get injuries all the time in this game and then the bleed time would be rather short.

This idea may seem to be radical at first but it all makes perfect sense and can diversify the gameplay as well as enhance teamplay. So the outcomes of this idea are:

  • introducing of believable medic class that stops soldiers from bleeding out to death (which is the main cause of death in war)
  • enhances gameplay
  • prolongs infantry battles as 1s1k would be limited (sharpshooters would still get their kills tho)
  • additional immersion
  • brings more teamplay
  • allows success for the team that cooperates the most

So what do you guys think?

General Discussion / Would you like to be a tadabester?
« on: 06-06-2010, 23:06:33 »
... and why?

For any of you that got excited after reading the title - this is NOT beta-tester recruitment. It's just my curiosity. So I ask you, would you like to be one of the people who test the new builds of FH2. If yes, what is your motive? Is it that you want to see the new stuff or you want to help out the community? If no, why not?
Too many question marks?

For those who already are testers please tell your reasons for accepting the dev invitation.

I didn't like the guy but he was a president of my country. I'm still watching the news. No black boxes were found yet and a list of names was recited of those who died. Those were top people of Polish gouvernment. Big tragedy hapened today.

General Discussion / Stupid team!
« on: 25-03-2010, 01:03:16 »
I was always somehow amazed how some people blame others... well for everything. How often do you see oh so smart remarks 'this team suck', 'my team is made of morons' and the like? Everytime I see that kind of language, something pokes me in the eye. Basically this is the worst behaviour right behind intended TK in my book. Dude, you're part of the team and if you get owned it's bad luck or you just don't do well enough for your team to win.

This little rant is also towards those 'idiot' callers. Seriously, grow up. If someone TKs you, it's not becouse of mental illness but of a mistake. You don't make mistakes? Sure you do and apparently more than others becouse most of those jerks reside in the bottom of the scoreboard.

So a little advice - before you say something, think, if it's really justified. Probaly at first your head will hurt but you'll feel better with time.

Some of you may wonder what trigered this. I was planning to start a thread about this in a more research manner but somehow it went to rant, oh well. Also, today I got a 'stupid squadleader' remark from a player I thought held more respect towards others. Looks like I was wrong.

Do you guys also suffer from this madness?
