I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree.  Rather than approaching the FH Mod team, you should be approaching EA (possibly with a petition) requesting BF2 be made open source for non-profit mods.  If they are already allowing you to download it for free, they may be open to this as long as people are not profiting from their intellectual property.

I personally would like more happy bird sounds on Seelow.

General Discussion / WW2 Online and FH2 KDR
« on: 05-04-2016, 20:04:33 »
Since the Forgotten Hope 2 servers tend to die out around 7:00 PM East Coast time, I’ve started playing WW2 Online in the evenings.  While it is considerably more clunky than FH2 (it is far from its heyday), I have to say that I’ve been enjoying it.  Aside from the fact that the map is massive (1/2 scale of Europe), the game play is completely team objective oriented.  While you do gain rank in the game, they do not track KDR (as far as I know), and the result is refreshing.  Accomplishing objectives is the focus of the team and in game chat is very positive.  The other thing they don’t allow it cross-chat between armies.

I have come to believe that tracking KDRs negatively affect game-play, because it encourages people to focus on themselves rather than the team.  While I try to ignore my KDR, the fact that other people care so much about theirs makes me focus on it more than I would care too.  If I could ask one thing of the 762 server, it would be to stop tracking KDR.

WW2 Online... though the game play is considerably more relaxed and... clunky

Can we get a KT on Arad?  After all, they were used during the actual battle.

I have come to realize that there are probably a few cheaters in FH2.  I understand there are some players that tend to dominate over others skill wise, but I have played against few individuals that have exhibited consistent and unreal accuracy over extreme distances, and/or an uncanny battlefield awareness (always knowing where I am on the map).  I tend to note these people and observe them throughout gameplay, but at the end of the day I don't have any proof.

If they do cheat... all I can say is that it is really sad, because I know for them it is about KDR and status regardless of the means.  But, I doubt they care... after all, most cheaters in life are sociopaths anyway.

^ He's talking about reacting to other people's grenades.

I think the whole commo rose needs some new sounds. Maybe someone with audio mixing skills could make
some new lines?

Like, "Watch out, grenade!" or something that can be made from existing sounds...

I usually just shout "Incoming!", but honestly, there isn't a lot you can do before it goes off.

Yes. There is one individual who does nothing but complain about the BF2 engine.

I believe that when you are holding a grenade, you can press your "shout" button and make you guy yell "Grenade!"

I think it is annoying when my guy starts yelling things on his own.

Does anyone actually use the mine detectors?
Pretty useless most of the time as you need to get so close to a mine to detect it, but I've used them occasionally on maps like Mareth (as Brits) where you have major choke points for advancing tanks. Those bridges before the first flags often get mined by sneaky stay-behind squads who can take out tank after tank after Brits have capped the flags. I've saved a few tanks by guarding the bridge as an engineer, finding mines with the detector and taking them out with the wrench.

Would miss them if they're removed, but I would like to see them beefed up so you can detect mines in a much larger radius, if that's possible?

What would actually be neat is if instead of having instant kill minefields for tanks, have the mine fields pre-populated with mines, so that infantry could clear a path for tanks to avoid choke points.

It is obvious that most of us love FH2… probably to the point that we almost play it too much, but sometimes there are things that I find stressful.  What are the top stressors in FH2 for you?
For me, a couple of things come to mind:

    1)   Ping.  I am an American player and my ping on the 762-ranked server is usually around 125.  I find that I usually have to get a half-second jump on a Euro player during a face to face to beat him (assuming neither misses).  I have had many instances when I fire first, but their shots register first.

    2)   Artillery.  While I have become a fan of spotting for Artillery, especially on desert maps where 88’s need to be destroyed from afar, I have also started cringing when shells are screeching in nearby. Artillery in FH2 is brutal, and I’m pretty sure Seelow is causing me to have a little PTSD.

Modding / Re: Statics

Looks like I may be able to import .prt files directly from Pro/E or Creo.  I'll play around with it.

Thanks. Is there a specific file format you use to share with 3dsmax?

Modding / Statics

I am a mechanical engineer and I use programs like Creo and Creo Direct extensively for my job.  I recently  finished my masters and I am looking to get into a new hobby.  Modeling statics looks like a lot of fun. Is there a particular program the DEV's would recommend for modeling statics?

it takes more than a request from a random guy on a public forum

I think this pretty much sums up Jan's attitude. There is nothing wrong with people posting recommendations. Stop treating people as outsiders.

I've been seeing a lot of posts in game about noobs, and how people should go back to COD.  Frankly, it is disappointing. If people want to guarantee FH2's death, keep discouraging new people from partaking in the community.
