BF1942 was my first FPS game, I got it and played it for a few months until I found out about these magical things called 'mods'. I couldn't get enough. I got TurboMod first because it sounded (and was) completely badass. I played Battlegroup 42, Battlefield 1918 and Operation Merciless and a whole bunch of other mods (codename: eagle never worked for me
) and my appetite was sated for a few more months. Then I noticed one day that there was a new mod in the list on FileShack-Forgotten Hope. I liked the new vehicles and maps, and downloaded each subsequent version until 0.7.
I played that on and off until 2005 when Battlefield 2 came out. The night I got it I couldn't sleep (I was 10) and I played that game like nobody's business for a few weeks. Soon, I got tired of it. I decided to check out FileShack for any mods. Forgotten Hope wasn't there, and I got hooked on other mods. Forgotten Hope became that one great game I sometimes play when I get bored of Axis & Allies, Battlefield: Vietnam, Battlefield 2, or the First Call of Duty. WWII was the centre of my focus, my interest in history actually stems from BF1942 and Forgotten Hope.
The same year FH2 came out, I got back into BF2. I checked the mod list again in FileShack, and I found that which I had once forgot and stored on an old bookshelf in my mind-I saw Forgotten Hope 2 in that list, not but a month old. I've been playing it off and on even since, and decided to get involved in the forums in early 2009.
So all of you can blame WalMart for stocking Battlefield 1942 for getting me into this.
