has anyone

tried a "von ryan's express" type map?  is it possible to have multiple trains on a map?  couple trains,  couple planes, some aa.  objective type map.  airplanes need to destroy the mountain pass before the train gets there.

That would be beyond objective. You are using the weakest aspect of gameplay (aircrafts) as the workhorse with the enemy's mainforce being experimental i.e trains - and then coupled trains at that.

The final deathnell in this idea is the fact that BF2 engine has zero scripted events. We can toy with flyovers, but that does not extend to scoring for each train that makes it past the target.

So yer, this idea is probably impossible.

On top of that, the planes would always beat the trains to the goal on a 4kmx4km map. ;)

Not necessarily... If you put some AA around the pass... and give a few planes to the enemy for air cover it could get interesting as a map similar to Battle of Britain...

It is a known fact that AA will miss a number of planes unless you set the plane to AA ratio such that none will be missed - Then sadly NONE will be missed.

AA versus aircraft is never a match - its a deterence for aircrafts  or a mismatch in AAs favor; never in-between.

And how long will this battle be? 5 minutes - Because the premise does not permit it to last over a long period of time, unless the pilots are intentionally dicking around

Which is ALL pointless eitherway, since it is based on too many What-ifs.

it is very much possible.

make a rail with destroyable rocks on the sides (like the cave entrance on PR that can be destroyed by c4 and will fall down and close the entrance.

then add trains on one end and a flag on the other. the flag will have a dome of death around it for infantry and not vehicles so only the trains can cap the flag.

then add insane ticketbleed too that flag so when the flag is capped by the train the team with all the planes will bleed out.

Yeah but they can make a few passes... or you make the target really small so it's quite hard to hit it, especially under AA fire... and it can also me made so you have to bomb it a few times... There are lots of balancing options... But the question remains, is it worth it? There certainly aren't many historical scenarios where it can be used...

If anyone has played Operation Big Week for FH1 he will know what I am talking about... Axis get Komets and ME 262 and Allies cardboard B-17s, Mosquitos, and Thunderbolts that fly like bricks, and a few P-51s. They have to destroy 3 factories and a U-boat pen under really heavy AA fire... But still it CAN be done! And Axis can easily win it too, just by keeping enemy B-17s at bay.

Yer, but you see, the whole thing fails when the defender is underpowered.

A few planes slip through the net and bye bye trains or tunnel
