Bayonets
« on: 03-04-2011, 20:04:05 »
Well you know how we have the sqaudleader kit and it has the choice of two weapons, either a rifle or an smg?

Could we have the same thing with rifleman kits?

One choice = rifle without bayonet attached.
Other weapon choice = with bayonet attached.

For many maps it would be great to see guys running in with bayonets on. A lot of North Africa maps need the imagery of British soldiers charging across the desert with bayonets!

Make the bayonet attached rifle less accurate to indicate the heavier weight of the weapon, thus making it hard to hold steady.

I'm not suggesting having a rifle that can fire and stab at the same time.

You'd still have to switch to bayonet to use it.

But you'd have a rifle that has the bayonet already attached.

And you still have to switch to that bajonet  ;)

I say leave it as it is

I think that it could be a great idea to keep the bayonet mounted on the gun, then switch from "rifle" to "bayonet" to use the bayonet. It will be exactly like in 2.30, but when switching to "bayonet" you will not have to wait to install the bayonet on it.

Make the bayonet attached rifle less accurate to indicate the heavier weight of the weapon, thus making it hard to hold steady.

That's actually a long held myth.  It doesn't make you less accurate, and with some rifles like the Mosin nagant, the rifles were zeroed with bayonet fixed, so its actually more accurate WITH the bayonet on.

Surely at times it had some affect?

We don't see anyone with bayonets on though.

I was thinking it'd be: fighting in open terrain, choose rifle without bayonet for more accuracy.
fighting in close/urban terrain, chose rifle with bayonet ready.

If what you say is true, accuracy could be changed anyway so that you don't get everyone armed with bayonets.
It's always a little silly when you want to stab someone and you have to put the bayonet on.

Plus if you were fighting in a city, it's likely you might know you were going to need your bayonet. Instead of ohhhhhh shhit one-on-one duel, used up my ammo, better fix my bayonet while running around in circles!

I say keep it as it is. When I'm running long distances I swap back and forth between the rifle and bayonet - repeating the putting-on-bayonet-animation. It gives me something to look at and do while running (maybe i have ADHD...) and it removes the sway when running.
I see were you are trying to reach: "how can a 17 year old kid have such a thinking like this? why doesnt he wants to be like normal teens who whana get rich? and his plan actually makes sense, but is too damn revolutionary and good at the same time than is still doubthfull if it works..." - Damaso

Do you get more points in-game if u get a bayonet/knife kill? I have no idea, but would be an incentive to use it more...

You could still do your thing of running and putting the bayonet on because you'd choose the rifle with bayonet not already attached!

I would say that when I put the bayonet I want to run now, and I do not like when I have to run in circle around a guy with a K98 trying to shooting at me when installing the bayonet on it :P

a bayonet is certainly much more quiet to use and the shock effect (psychologically) is not to be neglected... a single guy won't work well though as they have a large chance of being gunned-down instantly.

Also bayonets need no reloads, you could stab 6 guys in a row using a K98 bayonet if you're skilled enough. The M1 garand bayonet is however pretty pointless unless you're out of ammo.

I like the idea. It seems like a lot of people in this thread have misunderstod the suggestion.
It would be great to be able to choose between being a rifleman with bayonet unattached (like now) or eing a rifleman with bayonet attached (so you don't have to wait for the 'switch-weapons-animation' when selecting either bayonet or rifle).
I don't know how much coding is involved but this would only add a nice feature and not alter or take anything away that was already there.
