Hi,

maybe a silly question - I've been playing FH2 for a while now but never got around asking what the difference is between the tank rounds. There's often four types of rounds; the top AT one, a second AT one, the HEAT round and finally smoke.

But  what does the second one do - assuming the first AT round is your standard AT one, and it always looks like you've got plenty of those as opposed to the second AT round.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I've seen this MG42/MG34 setup in many movies - it looks awesome! Is this the lafette? And how is it operated? It looks so damn convinient, you could operate it with one hand and in the other a cup of tea, just aim and fire! How they aim and fire as they don't seem to touch the actual machinegun at all.

And one more question.. on this movie, this German guy says something like 'reit ab' and repeats it. What does he mean by that? Flee? The enemy is driving away? Are they hit? I've seen that scene come by so many times and I'm wondering..

Suggestions / New grenade 'falling on the ground' sound
« on: 26-01-2010, 00:01:29 »
I addressed this in another topic but it was shared with another question and thus didn't receive full attention. What about the grenade sound when it hits the floor? Like in Medal of Honor and Call of Duty you have very distinct sounds and you'll know when someone's tossing a grenade in the room. For some reason, it just really adds that little extra intensity to the battle. You'll get those 'oh sh*t!' situations rather than 'why did I die?' and then have to press the tilde key to see what killed me. But most of all, it shouldn't be that hard to implement this right? If not, please tell if such a sound exists and I'll add one myself as a personal mod! :-)

Thank you!

Suggestions / Range of View in Tanks
« on: 23-01-2010, 21:01:23 »
Hi guys, hope no one's started a similar thread and I did search for it but only found old or less relevant topics.

What I'd like to address is the view distance of tanks. Not so much how far they can see, but I mean the surrounding sighting. If anyone of you played Red Orchestra than you'd want to see it in FH2 as well!

I like to hunt tanks, but the tanks are just so damn flexible. For example that Cromwell functions more like an attack buggy with armour and big guns, the gun can be turned incredibly fast as well as its traction. Sometimes I wonder if this matches up with real life.

Anyway - when you watch those Wochenschau videos, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNsIKnS9msM you'll notice the advancing infantry along tanks. Now how did they manage to take out tanks at close range? It's because you can flank them, and you can do this because tanks hardly know what's going on at the side. Probably the 3rd person view shouldn't be there, with a bit more limited manouvrability tanks won't become those Rambo objects anymore as they seem now. You can still ambush them, but you're really dependant on bushes and objects which are often very far away from the tank's position. Which means you'll have to run up to the tank, but too often the tanks seem to be able to accelerate too fast, and the turret has spun twice before you reach it.

Any thoughts here? Thanks.

Tactics & Tutorials / Effective Use of the Panzerfaust
« on: 23-01-2010, 06:01:21 »
Now we all love the faust as much as we hate it. But I hate it a little more in FH2. It's effectiveness disappoints me and I wonder if the penetration is realistic. Many times I hit a Sherman in the side with the Panzerfaust but it would damage it only up to 90%, or around the point the tank starts burning. Either with, with BF2's crappy damage system, the tank is still fully capable of doing everything even if it'd be destroyed until 95%. This is terribly wrong. So you lost your only faust, are open on the field, still stunned that it didn't kill the tank, and the driver just rolls his turret around and shoots you in the face. I used to think the faust was like.. almost invincible against light-medium armour! And my targets weren't moving.

Also.. can someone please explain to me which of the three holes I need to use to aim with. What do they represent and how can I estimate the distance anyway? With its incredibly short range you want to be really sure you hit it.

Hi all,

If you tried deploying the Lafette you might have noticed how hard it can be to get it just right. In a bumpy area it can take several attempts to get its angle right. But after deploying it two times my Lafette is gone! Is this done on purpose or a bug? Same thing with mortar kits though the Lafette should be able to be replaced more than a few times!

Suggestions / Arcade Vehicle Explosions Graphics
« on: 23-01-2010, 05:01:05 »
Am I the only one who finds the explosion graphics very arcade? Whenever a tank is hit and destroyed it explodes violently with three flaming strokes in the air, it looks great but this isn't always reality. It would be nice if tanks would just take a hit and be disabled without it turning into a complete black wreckage as if it burned out from every possible angle. And on top of that, it explodes in 6 large pieces in a terrible arcadish vanilla style. All the effects look magnificent except for vehicle explosions. Instead, it would be very nice if the tank would have a random wreckage and partly burned, very often the tank doesn't explode violently and just sits there as the crew was killed but the outer part of the tank was remained intact. Or if it was moving it remained stuck in its gear and keep rolling for a few more metres. Now that would be realistic AND awesome!

Now just hoping someone will look into it and see what's possible.. thank you!

Bug Reporting / Achilles vs Panzerschreck
« on: 15-01-2010, 04:01:41 »
Hi all,

today I was out to ambush Allied tanks on Totalize. I found a Panzerschreck and already felt invincible. Eventually an Achilles tank passed by and I hit it directly in the ass at 50 metres, but for some reason there was zero damage dealt! I waited for him to cool off and move on and chased him further. I then got right behind it at about 5 metres and shot him right in the ass. And the same thing happened. This must be some kind of bug right?  ???

I can't help but noticing most German tanks have muzzle brakes and allied tanks almost never do. Barrels without them look incomplete and bald to me. But aside that the muzzle brake is supposed to fight recoil and barrel heightening, it seems like it's a very cheap and easy thing to produce, but why are they not present on most allied tanks? Is it because most of their guns were shorter barreled and didn't need any?

Ugliest:

Why? Because it looks like an upgraded WW1 tank. Those were hideous, lumpy and everything's out of proportion. With the size of the Churchill the gun itself looks like a 7 year old's d*ck on an obese old man (tank). Heh, almost like Churchill himself.. It's typically something for the English to make, why can't they produce something beautiful, practical and powerful for a change? Except the Crusader, which looks kinda slick.

Most beautiful:

The Panther, ofcourse! Look at that sexy sloped armour, perfect proportions, I especially like how the frontal slope is symmetric with the back, also sloped. It's that hot German blonde on high heels. Only with a very, very powerful gun. With a muzzle ofcourse. Have you ever seen a Panther that didn't have georgious camo? And the sound.. oh the sound makes me wanna come.. and kick some allied ass with that tank! No tank was more perfect and beautiful than the Panther, precisely like the animal itself, they hit it spot on, it's g'dang predator.

Post yours. :)

Hi guys,

I'm getting more and more frustrated with the unprofessionalism of squad leaders on public servers. I'd like to saddle up with some guys who play to win. I'm so fed up with the dumbest squad leaders not taking responsibility. In my opinion, he should not as much lead the boys into battle, but moreover stay alive so the boys can attack. That one spawn near the enemy flag means the difference between victory and defeat.

Also, it would be nice if we could outfit ourselves with different kits, an ATer, a rifleman, sub, etc.

I would really enjoy playing with such a clan on public and I'm especially interested in clans that have lots of players so I can always meet up with some guys and hopefully a full squad and those delicious late night hours throughout the week.

Thank you!

General Discussion / Compliments on the sounds!
« on: 03-01-2010, 01:01:51 »
I wonder why there's isn't a compliment forum.

Anyway I just LOVE the tank sounds. Especially the engine sounds, it makes me want to get in a tank just for that! I LOVE the roaring sound of those massive engines and I put the volume up just for that. I don't care if I hear nothing outside the tank that way that's just the way I like it and seems realistic!

I like the other gun sounds as well especially when aircrafts are firing on ground targets that Typhoon for example makes some nice mayhem! I must also compliment on the flak explosion sounds I actually like the sounds, not being hit, but the sound makes me feel like I'm something dangerous!

And ofcourse the reloading sounds of the tanks. That *clinking* sound of the shell being reloaded just adds so much to the realism. In my opinion, game sounds really create that 'edge' and makes playing this mod - wit the right sounds - incredibly worthwhile.

Thank you and please hurry up with the next update I want to play more (get those servers out of their six map routine)!

Bug Reporting / Death screams from many, many metres away!
« on: 03-01-2010, 01:01:16 »
I constantly hear deaths sounds all over the map even when the closes enemies/friendlies are like 50 metres away. I hear a more distant sound then but this isn't exactly realistic, as it still sounds as if it was happening a few metres away instead. Is this supposed to be this way? Because it seems silly and out of place.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

most of you have seen this - you get shot by a rifle and fly ten feat in the air. This should be fixed! It's horribly unrealistic.

And furthermore: I always liked the ragdoll system, but it's not correctly set. The body always seems to have a weight of like 30KG, like a full bag of potatoes rather than a 75KG body! No dead body slides down from stairs either. It rolls down yes, but not slide. As a matter of fact, since the weight is incorrectly calibrated gravity wouldn't drag the body down in the first place. Or have it roll over a bit after being shot by a strong 'wind', appearently.

These are small details but highly regarded to FH's aim for realism don't you agree!

Thanks!

Poll opinions
------------

Negatives about the sound:

- You instantly betray your position and presence to the enemy

Positives about the sound:

- It's realistic

In my opinion, if you throw a grenade no one's gonna wait for it anyway or check where you've thrown it in the first place. Why not improve our anticipation skills instead and be more cautious. Nothing is more akward than giving away the position of a whole squad in an attempt to 'sneak' up on the enemy. Might as well add a bright pink flag to our inventory which we can use to wave at the enemy since we're giving ourselves away anyway it might as well be amusing.

------------

I'm sure you've all played Medal of Honor and Call of Duty and both of these games have a distinct sound when a grenade is thrown and falls on the ground. You can really hear the impact and I always felt that it made a grenade more.. valuable as you could hear its actual weight, and the material it fell on, specifically in MoH these sounds were detailed.

But most importantly, this will give you a heads up when a grenade is being tossed into your bunker as you would hear the sound of it bouncing around. If only for the sound itself it wouldn't even have to buy me time to get out..! Maybe there is already a sound like this but I've never heard or its very soft?

Lastly, c'mon guys I'm sure you're all incredibly annoyed and perhaps frustrated with the screaming that goes hand in hand when throwing a grenade. Nothing is more akward than trying to ambush an approaching enemy, but you've given away your position the second you pull out the pin, and see him dodge your grenade and shoot you in the face while you still have to swap and aim your weapon. Please remove it, it's got no use!

I understand it's meant to warn your buddies but either make it so that the scream only happens when you're in a few metres radius with friendlies or not at all. Let's be honest. If you can't anticipate then that warning scream won't prevent your buddies from being TK'ed anyway, so it's better that we learn to aim and anticipate movements. Please remove the sound!

Thank you.
