Battleship (2012 movie) the one that TheTA0 saw.
by Peter Berg
Starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Rihanna (the singer), Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, and else
Plot:
It tells a story about a young gifted young boy like you all, smart, but too lazy to do something serious. On the other side, there are a couple of geeks and NASA trying to contact intelligent life in what referred in film simply as "Gliese" solar system (probably Gliese 581).
One day an event brought the young loser into US Navy. He stepped through the ranks until one day, a major joint exercise between friendly navies was held. He screwed up and about to be expelled from the navy. But in the middle of it an alien attack party landed on earth, one of its ship hit an orbiting satellite and crashed into Hong Kong island down town. So the rest landed near Hawaii main islands. Some of the fleet (3 Guided missile destroyers) is then diverted from the main exercising fleet to conduct an investigation on the alien ship, one of it is Japanese ship. But only one survives, its crews lost all of its senior officers, so all is left to this young loser to lead the rest of the fleet and save the world.
My review:
At first, I thought it was directed by Michael Bay. But I was dead wrong. It wasn't, but it really looks like it. So now you know what you expect: overdrawn actions, plot holes for the sake of cool climax, etc. But in the end, it is a pretty entertaining movie.
The film says the earth-like planet is discovered in that star area in 2005, and seems to be a planet b, while in reality the earth-like planet in Gliese 581 was planet c and discovered in 2007. It took them less than 10 years to get a reply from a star region with the closest star like 14 light years away. The earth-like planet b is in Gliese 1214, discovered in the internet by FH forumers back in 2009.
I like the movie, because they don't have that Tom Clancy political nonsense in this movie. That's a big plus. But it has Tom Clancy ra-ra go America in this, but since there is big anti-American bias today, so I call this movie OKAY! At least the Japanese is the big hero.
So I gave it a decent 6 out of 10.
p.s. I like the way they use the veterans to crew the USS Missouri. They completely forgot about that Tomahawk missile installed during 1990 2nd Persian Gulf War (the external launcher is clearly shown in the movie). So they can make drama about "last shell" and failed dramatic anti-climax.
