Review:  This extended version adds 36 minutes of footage. Make the movie even better. More back story on Sweetwater & Miss Penny lane. One of the best Rock movies ever IMO.

The extended cut is now so long that you forgot the band's name.  ;-)

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

I was really looking forward to this movie. I think MI3 was hit back when it was released. A good excuse for the complete bollocks that MI2 was.

MI:GP is not bad, there's plenty of action to go around and some nice moments. The only problem is that it is not as good as MI3. Quite the same as MI3 but not as strong. A good sequel but nothing special.

Nice to Mikael Nyqvist as a bad guy. His role is quite weak compared to Philip Seymour Hoffman's in MI3 but still he does a good job.

Worth the watch but I think MI is going down the same road as the last Bond movies that featured Pierce Brosnan did. Going more and more towards fancy gadgets and lacking the real action. Not saying there's a lack of action in MI:GP but still.

Nicely put, about Ghost Protocol. It was really well made, but it just didn't "grab" me. None of the MI films really did (altough I enjoy them) and I think it's because Ethan Hunt is such a bland, empty vessel. Of course that's because of the fact that he is a chameleon-type agent who can blend in at will, but it doesn't make for interesting heroes. It went from set-piece to set-piece, without really having a reason why. For instance, the Dubai tower scene. Big media thing, "Tom Cruise doing his own stunts!" and stuff, but in the end that scene really only is there to, you guessed it, have Tom Cruise hanging of a building for no apparent reason. Oh, let me add I generally love Cruise in movies.

But they've been over-techy from the beginning, that's the whole MI selling point. Not sure where you got the whole looks-like-later-Bond angle from.

The last Pierce Brosnan Bond (Die Another Day) was awesome. It got a lot of flak for being too much, but people failed to see that it was an hommage to the previous 19 Bond movies so yeah, there was a villain in an exoskeleton, a death ray in space, an ice castle and an invisible car. That was the whole point.
Never experienced the other Brosnan movies as overly gimmicky though. At least not compared to what came before (*cough*  Roger Moore in a plastic crocodile *cough*).

Battleship

7/10

It wassent a bad movie, the story was simple but overdone at the ending. The action was very good, the design of the aliens awesome
But

SPOILER

i expected that i would see a huge taskforce of navy ships fighting these aliens backed up by the powerfull guns of the USS missouri. Instead i see 3 ships fighting 4 alien ships and in the end they hijack the museum ship USS missouri and get it running with 15 men and SAVE the DAY!CAUSE AMERICAN SAVES THE DAY ONCE AGAIN HALLELUJA

The only excellent thing i saw, was Liam neesoms awesome acting.

It sometimes hads its funny moments

I expected a bit more

i should have taken the movie "the grey"

God Bless America (2011)

After seeing the trailer this afternoon, I got this instantly. I agree with an IMDB reviewer, think Natural Born Killers meets Office Space and you're there. Yet, it still maintains a serious undertone and mirror to people today. Full of references and little winks, this is also just a boatload of fun. If you liked Hobo with a Shotgun, or both named movies above, you can't go wrong. Well acted by the two main characters as well. A well deserved 8 and an extra 0,5 for the balls to film it. I loved it. Most people won't get it, which is ironic, because most of them are in the movie.

Getting shot, but hey ;D

8,5

Battleship (2012 movie) the one that TheTA0 saw.
by Peter Berg
Starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Rihanna (the singer), Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, and else

Plot:

It tells a story about a young gifted young boy like you all, smart, but too lazy to do something serious. On the other side, there are a couple of geeks and NASA trying to contact intelligent life in what referred in film simply as "Gliese" solar system (probably Gliese 581).

One day an event brought the young loser into US Navy. He stepped through the ranks until one day, a major joint exercise between friendly navies was held. He screwed up and about to be expelled from the navy. But in the middle of it an alien attack party landed on earth, one of its ship hit an orbiting satellite and crashed into Hong Kong island down town. So the rest landed near Hawaii main islands. Some of the fleet (3 Guided missile destroyers) is then diverted from the main exercising fleet to conduct an investigation on the alien ship, one of it is Japanese ship. But only one survives, its crews lost all of its senior officers, so all is left to this young loser to lead the rest of the fleet and save the world.

My review:

At first, I thought it was directed by Michael Bay. But I was dead wrong. It wasn't, but it really looks like it. So now you know what you expect: overdrawn actions, plot holes for the sake of cool climax, etc. But in the end, it is a pretty entertaining movie.

The film says the earth-like planet is discovered in that star area in 2005, and seems to be a planet b, while in reality the earth-like planet in Gliese 581 was planet c and discovered in 2007. It took them less than 10 years to get a reply from a star region with the closest star like 14 light years away. The earth-like planet b is in Gliese 1214, discovered in the internet by FH forumers back in 2009.

I like the movie, because they don't have that Tom Clancy political nonsense in this movie. That's a big plus. But it has Tom Clancy ra-ra go America in this, but since there is big anti-American bias today, so I call this movie OKAY! At least the Japanese is the big hero.

So I gave it a decent 6 out of 10.

p.s. I like the way they use the veterans to crew the USS Missouri. They completely forgot about that Tomahawk missile installed during 1990 2nd Persian Gulf War (the external launcher is clearly shown in the movie). So they can make drama about "last shell" and failed dramatic anti-climax.

This is true however. Not to mention the 4 phalanxes installed wich could bring down those depth charge like anti-ship missile thingies

If only the russian navy was in with the KIROVV CLASS BATTLECRUISER.

Oh god that movie had sooo many plotholes... ok I'd still give it a 6/10 as well, but still...

Spoiler!
Those Aliens were just a joke, I mean a race that develops FTL travel and responds immediately with a military task force to a life signal on a distant planet could be expected to be a bit smarter. I mean after Y-lightyears of travel they crash straight into the relay satellite (which seems to be in a MEO orbit) from which the signal originated ... how incompetent must you be?! And then the plot hole for me: The satellite is still there in the end...
And by god what is wrong with their priorities. They destroy some bits of infrastructure causing deaths and wanton destruction and then stop dead in front of a kid?
And how do they judge threats? "Oh look the humans aren't targeting us, they aren't a threat"... and they fall for that trick at least 4 times... major facepalm...

And Hasbro... I loved your toys, but that Battleshipesque scene forced into the movie was just too much to swallow... why wouldn't the aliens see the ships made of metal and why do they need to hop over water, where they clearly have flying capabilities...

On a brain-dead entertainment level the movie gets a thumbs up from me for a nicely execute hand-brake turn with a battleship and a great Rock Music Score! :D

SPOILER!

Probably they are just crashing into random satellites, not that relay satellite (called Landsat-7 in the movie). But then, the most cheesy part is how they just toy around with the that 3 destroyers, which they simply disengaged after the last surviving made hard turn starboard.

So much for "intelligent" life. The Amerindians did not outsmart the Spaniard explorers back then, didn't they?

I've just wiki-ed the movie today. For making this movie, they've spent like USD 200 million!!!!! OMGWTFz0rs??!?

J.Edgar 5/10

Acting was not bad, but in the end, it was meh.
Didn't give anything I ddn't already know, and really didn't delve into things he atually did.
No offense, but Hoover wasn't that interesting a person, beyond his ability to hold things over people.

I wanted to see what the FBI actually did. So unlike Letters and Flags of our fathers, this one didn't add anything to my knowledge base, and it had no high points.

I don't recommend.

Yeah I was disappointed when I went to see this. I expected more about the foundation of FBI, more acts against criminals and of course more gangsters. But what I got was brokeback agency, and I admit I dont have anything against homosexuals, I was just not expecting to get a homo-flick out of this movie. Of course, I SHOULD have expected this since it was about the man himself. And the "older" characters were a joke, they looked like rubber.

I saw the austrian, hungarian, german movie "Vielleicht in einem anderen Leben" (In another Lifetime) some weeks ago.

Story is about a group of jews that are on a march to KZ Mauthausen in april 1945. They end up in a small village in austria as the chain of command is disintegrating. So they are simply kept imprisoned there in a barn. They wife of the local farmer, who is in charge of keeping them there, gets in contact with them, despite it being forbidden, and starts to care about them. The prisoners have the idea of arranging a play for her, to keep some last rest of civilized behavior and not despair.

A kind of poetic story, besides all the horrors we usually imagine with this background, and the perfect "believable" acting of simple characters put this film in the same category of realistic war movies like "Das Boot" and "Stalingrad".

The ending is something so totally unexpected that it will keep you speechless and shocked for some long time to come.
