The mist(2007)
A very underrated movie, i quite like it also for the fact that not much know actors are being used.
It also shows how pathethic religion is and if i every get into some sort of apocalypse, im staying the FUCK away from christians

8.5/10

Great movie, got me scared a few times. What I like the most is the unexpected ending, made me laugh!
the ending was worthy of the biggest fail facepalm

Not because it sucked
But only Frank Darabont can come up with such an ironic
yet Actually pretty possible realistic ending

Apollo 18

7/10

When it was released, everybody stated the film was worse than regurgitated donkey shit.I really liked the movie, even if with obvious flaws like gravity inside lunar module and a nonconclusive ending.

Love the love here for The Mist and Ironclad. Loved them both too.

The Mist has an awesome ending. Still gets me after repeated viewings. Love the Half-life vibe.
Ironclad was just over-the-top goodness done right. Blood, gore, manly men, my kind of movie.

My recent watches:

Yesterday I saw 2 movies that really impressed me when I saw them in the cinema a couple of years ago, but hadn't watched since, because I was afraid that the second time around the "specialness" would be gone. Thankfully I was wrong..

- The Wrestler ****
Still bad-ass Mickey Rourke. Daranofsky is king.

- No Country For Old Men ****1/2
After Big Lebowski the only Coen movie I've seen more than once now. Really well made, but thankfully has a soul too. Something that is lacking with a lot of their movies, imo.

- Daybreakers ***
had seen this when it came out, and found it to be a bit mediocre. But the second time around I got into what they were trying to do a bit more, and it's actually rather good, if maybe nothing really fancy.
It's set in the near future when vampires have taken over the world and humans are on the brink of being extinct.  The upside-down world of vampires running the 'normal' life and humans being the outcast is a nice, and quite original angle. Ethan Hawke plays a vamp with a heart and tries to find a solution to the impending end of the world. He's helped by Willem Defoe who plays a guy who, by chance, got cured from his vampirism.

13 Assassins ****
New movie from Takeshi Miike (Audition, Ichi The Killer, etc.). It's quite a 'normal' movie for him. 13 Samurai take it upon themselves to get rid of one warmongering warlord who's a danger to the entire country. Starts out pretty much as Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, but Miike makes it his own in the second half. Epic carnage ensues (yes, epic carnage) when the warlord's army takes on the 13 samurai who are holed up in a fortified village. Beautifully shot, and the fightscenes are massive, bloody, and just really well done.

Watched "the hunger games" yesterday.

Short Story: after a rebel uprising had been crushed, the nation of Panem ordered to have a game of survival each year to commemorate their victory. The country is divided in 13 districts, one of which has already been destroyed, out of each district one male and one female Tribute between 12 and 18 years of age must be chosen by luck. In district 12, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to replace her younger sister. She, together with Peeta Mellark is transported to the Capitol. The point of the Games is to kill or outlive all other tributes in trying circumstances, and generally enjoying the population of the Capitol, as it is being aired live.

My opinion: good choice of actors, unanswered questions at the end, overall decent, rather nasty methods of inducing pain/death sometimes

looking forward to the next part.

Honestly, I can't say. I haven't seen both movies.

That leaves me to say: well go and find out then.

The Hunger Games - Not necessarily bad, although I never felt the attachment to the long defeated rebellion that made her proposed martyrdom later in the film worth while. In-fact the strange three finger-salute they rendered really confused me because no explanation of it was really given. On top of that, the way in which the movie was filmed really annoyed me. Very tight field of view camera use, with lots of random sporatic movement almost made me motion sick watching it, and in many cases made me miss minor details that had importance. Not bad, but, not great.

Anonymous - I really liked this movie. While many people I watched it with fell asleep due to its length and subject material, I myself was heavily wrapped up in the claim that the Earl of Oxford had written Shakespeares greatest pieces. On top of that the entire atmosphere of the movie was excellent, all the costumes and especially the combat was excellently portrayed in my opinion, and I'd recommend this movie for anybody who can pay attention to detail and stay awake for two-and-one-half hours.

The Thing - Nothing special, actually fell asleep because it turned into a saturday night monster movie with no real "horror" to speak of. Boring, bland, and far from what I expected. Rental...maybe?

Re-watched Glengarry Glen Ross once again with a mate of mine.

Still, so damn, good.

Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Jack Lemmon and Kevin Spacey.

If you don't like the movie itself it's really worth watching Al Pacino get pissed at Kevin Spacey.

Who taught you your trade?

Mongol - 6/10

An asian movie about Genghis Khan youth. Not an horrible movie as many were whining in IMDb.It's interesting, but it gets too repetitive.Like if he was always doing the same thing and going to the same places through the movie.

The Hunger Games (2012)
by Gary Ross
starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, and also Lenny Kravitz

A book based on based selling novel by Suzzane Collins with the same title. Never read the novel, but it is largely typical teen movies. Not as great or fantasizing as Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings nor Star Wars, but it is adequate to entertain average 20-something guy.

The story (to most audiences unfamiliar to the book, as far as the $5 ticket price goes) is about a dystopian country "Panem" in the future, where it is being divided into 12 districts. After quelling a massive rebellion, they decided to held a game of survival, called "The Hunger Games" to commemorate the victory. Each of districts will have to send 2 so-called "tributes" to participate in the annual game, one male and one female of at least 12 years age. They were pitted together in a virtualised arena, watched by every people in the nation in live television as some sort of entertainment.

Interesting plot here,
There are some "careering" tributes, participants who hone their skills to win the game just like pro athletes. But the majority of people from lesser districts aren't willing to participate, because of its gruesome outcome: the game only accepts 1 victor. The nation is depicted as a strict tightly-policed nation, and the participants are forced to join the game. Now, it is up to Katniss Everdeen from district 12 to uphold her survival of herself, her family, her friends, and her people.

My review:
It is a good videogame however.
What I like: A good show, good actors and actresses, I like the campy theme. Will be very nice if it's made into series and video game.
But I hate: its background, it is typical shallow teen movies trying to cover heavy subject there. And that "you have to read the book to get it" nonsense... oh please stop it! They said the same thing about Twilight. I don't need that for LoTR or Harry Potter.
The movie also used a lot of first person audiovisual sensory immersion, so when there is explosion or poison attack, you are forced to feel the aftereffect of hearing constant ringing noise, shaky cams, blurry vision.

Overall I gave it a decent 7/10

Recently, I've been looking for Directors Cuts & Extended versions of some of my favorite movies.

Almost Famous The Bootleg Cut 2000:

Review:  This extended version adds 36 minutes of footage. Make the movie even better. More back story on Sweetwater & Miss Penny lane. One of the best Rock movies ever IMO.
