128 players? Great! Don't tell me that the server is in Finland.

Heh, I bet my weekly salary it is in Finland...
I wish I could play, but Euro times are not good for me and by the time I get home, everyone will be gone and it won't be even 64, let alone 126 :(

Well, 1st run is over after server crashed on La Varde (La Vader if you listen the loading music..)

Impressions:

Operation Dynamo 64p. (Ger vs Brit) Very large map, with 3 flag routes to the beach. Played this first with like 30-35 people. Vast distances and hard to cap flags. Brits seemed to have 3 different spawnpoint choices per flag, giving Axis much trouble contesting one. Lots of 2 pounders and Bofors on every flag. Would have LOVED to see this with 126 players, but I think even 64 is too few players for it.

La Varde 64p(Vader), (US vs Ger). Really funny loading music. Lovely looking map, on the first go we had like under 100 tickets and it was over before we knew it. 2nd time, there was a problem with the map not being in push mode, which caused a lot of back-capping. Crazy commander bombing, funny RC plane somewhere and the MOST detailed bunker complex ever. Conquering the bunkers was a tough ordeal for US. Great fun. All in all very nice looking map, with plenty of details. Great fun until the crash with 60+ players. Oh, and the ducks fucking in the pond... Priceless.

Breakthrough Sedan 64p(Ger vs Brit) Another very big map. Good fights in the towns south of the map and interesting landing/bridge building route in the north for Germans. Lots and lots of planes. I think 2 109s vs Spit, 4 (?) Ju-87s vs Beaufighter. Lots of dead ends for armor in the city of Sedan, places to hide etc. Apparently near endless amount of tanks for Axis (?). The fighting in the South and North sides are so far away from each other, that I'd like to see this map split up and make 2 maps out of this one.

All maps had empty houses without any furniture, strange looking textures here and there, lower water levels than before textures were placed etc etc. Very much WIP, but in a good way. They all had that Idea behind them and it felt much like FH2 does. Especially La Vader is something I'd love to see with next FH2 patch.

So my impressions are rather similar:

I played each map.

Op.Dynamo:As Lydecker, I played with only 32 players map and really that was too few for this map...  Not sure if 64 will be enough... But I hope to play this map with bigger amount of players soon. I don't know what I can think abut this map - I've been to only 2 flags there...

Sedan:Great map! I liked how many ways I could choose to attack a flag in the city... I took only once a tank and obviously went on a mine in the town >:( Also you could see and hear dogfighting planes above - you could really feel that theres war around you  ;)

Varde:Another nice map with plenty of new stuff - I need to play as Brits and get AVRE next time :P What the hell was this red plane??  ;D From where did you get it? Hah, and this sound before commander arty  ;D And I didnt see the ducks...  :( There was also mg42 bug - i could hear it like I was shooting with it...

All in all, very good event. Steiner's squad with 12(11) players and you dont need anything more  :P

I played all maps and here is my feedback:

Operation Dynamo: Very huge map, that needs a better pushmode. Maybe the first row of british flags should not be recapable. The maplayout reminds a bit on Siege of Tobruk but with lot more space between the flags. I think with a tricky pushmode (something like Hurtgen Forest) this map can work quiet well with 64 players. Interesting is, that the enemy can also flank you and fall in from the rear. There were some surprising moments that demanded very good teamwork and good communication. I played all maps on allied side so I can only judge from this POV. Maybe the german can need some more transport to bring the players faster to action. Some more Sdkfz's should help alot. All in all I think the map and landscape feels very homgeneous and natural. Now it is important to tweak the gameplay/pushmode.

Sedan: Also huge map with a lot of different gameplay styles. My squad fougth the whole time in the city and it was very interesting. The missing bottlenecks made it much more intense, because you needed very good teamwork  and never could be sure, where the enemies could come from. The Stukas diving over the bridges and the dogfigths were really cinematic and gave this map a special feeling. My TS mates were fighting in the other team and they were fighting in the more open areas outside the city so they had completly different view on the map. They were really excited to advance to a big city over open field. Something that seems to be lacking on this map is transport. I also would like to suggest to make the playable area in the city a bit more closer. The outskirts (east of the city) don't really need to be an playable area and people can't loose each other that fast. You also need to give more possibilities to get out the river. Sometimes I fell in it and had to swim quiet long. Some more ledders like in Ramelle would help. Some players were complaing about a lot of dead ends for tankers, so maybe you should take a look at this problem. Besides, this maps needs alot of polishing. First you should "clean" the map. There are a lot of objects not fitting into the map or floating around. To summarize it, a very interesting map with very interesting facettes of gameplay. I hope to see something like this for the eastern front and can't wait to see the finished Sedan. Gameplay was perfect with 64 players though. For less players some different layers would be a good idea. Maybe the city area just for 32 players. At the end it needs a lot of work and polishing.

La Varde: The gameplay on this map is also very interesting. I don't know whether there is a pushmode for this map, but the simple conquest mode brought a lot of funny twists in the battle. It reminds me a bit of Totalize. My mind: leave the pushmode away an take the normal CQ mode. Vehicle layout was perfect for me. Only thing that is a bit strange on this map is the vegetation. You should take a look at it. Flaglayout is perfect and causes some really interesing firefigths. Only the spawns are a bit unlucky in some areas. It is not a good idea to let people spawn on the open field. Place some more cover and everything is fine. The bunker system is awesome but it looks very strange and unnatural. In some areas the colishion mesh seems to be buggy. I fell through the object and the map after leaving a coastal gun. In some areas the performance is also not that good and the FPS drop noticable. A friend of mine complained about killed by artillery through the bunker. He was the commander and wasn't save at his radio. But the arty was very impressive on this map.

All in all nice event. You should try to set up the maps until saturday and give a new download maybe. So maybe you can fix the problem with the disappearing spawn after map change and we can test them better. At the end thanks to my good squad with Smooth as SL and other good teamworkers. I had a lot of fun.

Keep up the work ;)

La Varde was good. But the other two maps where a little bit too large. Especially Sedan could benefit from  a push mode. The Island on the river in Sedan should only be capable if you have a flag on one of the riverbanks.

Nice event, but haven't played the French maps properly yet.

When I joined the server it was playing regular maps. There were 100+ players. When I was asking when the French maps would come, a chat started which grew and grew and there were players shouting at each other in chat like there was no tomorrow, about that the server would die, etc. I'm really sory for those players, but if you play on a server which is called "French Hope event" and there is enough info spread around the web how to download the maps, and then you still refuse to do so and just want to enjoy 126 players server, then you are just lazy. So sadly, the French maps came only after 4 hours or something like that and I had grown really tired. Then on top of it all, it turned out that indeed 90% of the playerbase was lazy, so we played two French maps with only 15-20 players.  :( :( :'( :(

La Varde - large map, nice statics although I think it is a bit of a shame to have enterable statics which don't do anything. Someone said in chat they were flamethrower statics, I'm not sure, but they were attached to the bunker. With few players, large distances and almost no transport, this map became a flagrun, which wasn't very entertaining. The destroyed town and the bunker looked cool, though.

Sedan - this looks like it could be a very cool map, but since the circumstances were the same as above (few players, large distances and almost no transport --> flagrun), I can't comment really good on it. The bridge thingy is cool, but I don't get why my tank blew up when I drove over it (I was on the oher side of the river now, and I was simply "no more"). The town looks great, hard to manoeuver for tanks, but with enough players this is a good thing. I'd love to see this one in FH2 one day, maybe a tad bit smaller though.

I hope the server will be set to French maps only, so all those lazy tards will download the maps anyway because otherwise they can't play 126 player server.

Agree that the event should be all about the French Hope maps instead of just two nights. Yesterday, it was half past midnight Finnish time and there were still some ~400 tickets left on El Al, so I called it a day even though French maps would have been forthcoming next. :-\

I also would like to suggest to set up the French Hope maps a bit earlier in the rotation and much more. Most players are european and don't want to wait the whole night. For those people who were discussing and saying things like "nobody cares for your maps": play on another server. This should be clearly a event to test these maps intensive and not just for some kids to have fun. So see you on the server today. ;)

As long as there is 126 players server running with basic FH2 maps on it, people will join to have brainless fun and they will be kicked when custom maps appears because they don't have them and there is nothing to force them to donwload them. Also many of those kicked lazy assholes won't download them at all because of rage after disconnect. People join big server and don't give a single fuck about your tests, you need play FrH maps only to change this...

What happened with those team Contact previous maps like Berchtesgaden, beach map, there was also one nice urban map - where you  have to destroy objectives, and a map which was set somewhere in Italy ( Sicily) and St. Mere Eglise (night map)?

Those maps were very nice as well, but didn't get much press back then AND there was no 126 player server to help get people interested. I tried those as well, we got maybe 10-15 players there, but it was fun. The snowy forest had a feeling of its own, St. Mere was quite nice and that one town map, the one with like a hundred buildings in it, would have been a blast. I think they were all infantry maps with minimal vehicles. Built for some tournament or something?

Agreed

La varde is an excellent map, i like it. the other ones need a bit fine tuning.
