Ghost Recon
« on: 05-10-2012, 12:10:39 »
Hi everyone,
I recently reinstalled Ghost Recon 1 and wonder if there is still someone playing it out there or better, if there is someone who ever played it.

Oh, what a great game back then! I`m still playing it at times.
Just go and try some mods! Imho the best mod for Ghost Recon is "Heroes Unleashed", but I think you need the two expansions "Desert Siege" and "Island Thunder" to run it.

Are you sure that you need the expansion packs? That's a shame because the mod looks really good.

Yeah, the mod is great! As far as I know you need the expansions. I bought both on ebay and they are worth it. You get 2 new campaigns including approximately 8 missions each, imho both harder then the standard GR campaign. Also with Heroes Unleashed you can play all 3 campaigns as a whole.

the original GR game was great, played through all the expansions as well. Only thing they failed with was the ending of a level.. ended instantly when the last enemy was dead.. they should have made the win-criteria 'kill all enemies and reach destination X" so you could choose yourself when to end the map... now it auto-ended when it was as most exciting, bit unclimactic.

still havent tried any of the GRAW games, except the first one for 30min but my PC in 2006 sucked so I had 10 fps  :(

I remember playing it with my cousin back in the day! I recently went nostalgic too and bought the original Delta Force for a few bucks. Had fun playing it haha. CONTACT!

First of all: Which addons do I need, because I could not find any info on moddb. Secondly: Why the hell does Desert Siege still cost 9€ on Amazon? Is there any way to get those addons cheaper?

Scroll down to the system requirements. There you will see that both Desert Siege and Island Thunder are required.
Maybe you should take a look on ebay!? I got them both there for ~5€ each.

Thanks alot. I just saw some offers for 0.01€ (not sure whether they are trolling) but I just bought the complete version for 5€. This should do the job.

Don't want to edit my old post so I will thank Asator86 in here for proposing this indeed really good mod. The missions are indeed harder (especially the ones where you have to hurry - I personally hate them) but the Ex-USSR with it's cold, cloudy weather is more apppealing to me. It simply has more atmosphere and the outdated graphics don't look as ugly as they do in the jungle.

Yes, you're right.  Just love the atmosphere and the leveldesign, especially that mission, where you have to sneak into that castle at night 8)

There is only on thing that bugs me. Modded Ghost Recon regularly crashes, especially when I want to command my fireteams.
