Pontypool
Low budget, small scale Canadadian horrormovie based on Tony Burgess' novel "Pontypool Changes Everything". It's about an outbreak of somekind in a little town called Pontypool. The movie follows early morning talkradio host Grant Mazzy and his 2 co-workers, who have no idea what's going on when the first calls start coming in about something gruesome happening outside in the village. They decide to keep reporting about this mysterious outbreak from their basement studio but inevitably the real world comes crashing in.
It may sound like your typical zombie movie, but it's the inventive way in which the story is told that sets this apart from tons of other movies. Having no budget to speak of, the movie shows only the perspective of Mazzy and his team. You're in there with them, knowing nothing more then they know. This approach can easily fall flat but here it works. It creates a harrowing "what's really going on?" atmosphere, helped by excellent actors and great use of the audiotrack. The "twist" is really cool too, but you'll have to find out yourself.
Well worth watching if you're into inventive movies, or just like your survival horror (but just make sure you get a version with a proper DTS/5.1 track because sound is important in this movie). 8/10
