Tactics & Tutorials / Mines, Ambushes & Deception
« on: 03-09-2010, 21:09:29 »
Not done yet will be finished when I get around to it.

In many matches, I have noticed the lack of land mines placed, most are placed in random locations that will not help the team, most get ran over by friendly units due to no warning signs were placed causing issues with the transportation of Infantry, tanks and other vehicles. This guide will show you Ambushes, deception plans and mine placement strategy's.

Quote
Mines

Mines are some of the least used weapons in Fh2, due to the team kills amounted by it, therefore it is rarely used. The only map I have seen it used on is El Alamein, and then not even properly used. This section will explain proper uses and how to avoid team kills.

An important thing to note is how people drive often on the sides of the roads, this all changes in fh2, most people do not drive on the roads unless it is on small maps like fall of Tobruk. Therefore 1-2 mines is not going to stop an enemy assault, it might take out 1-2 vehicles if your lucky. Therefore large minefields are the most effective in my experience. Fh2, limits each player to placing up to 5 land mines, you want to place them in a rectangular box in order to get the most effective defensive line, place flags 20 meters away on the side friendly units approach from, other wise enemies will see the flags and go around the minefield, this is also a useful tool for deception as flags can randomly be placed on roads, in order to distract the opponents into going right into an ambush.

Roads are easy to block with mines, place them on one side of the road and tell your team to drive on the left or the right side in order to prevent team kills, this way you will get less team kills.

Off-Topic / He 162 fighter jet
« on: 19-03-2010, 23:03:51 »
Quote
The He 162 Volksjager (the "People's Fighter") was developed as a quick solution to stem the tide of the major Allied advances witnessed by German forces in the latter years of the war. The plan was to produce these inexpensive jet fighters in mass production quantities and train Hitler Youth to take them into battle. This formula would go on to show any reader of history the desperate lows that the Reich was willing to steep to help win the war for Germany.

The He 162 was a single-seat fighter of unique design, most identifiable for having the powerplant sitting atop the fuselage, negating the need for any complex internal intake and exhaust systems running the length of the fuselage. The tail was ingeniously split in a "T" format and the wings were mounted high on the fuselage body with edges folded down at aerodynamic degrees. A powered tricycle landing gear, a large glass canopy and even an ejection seat rounded out the list of notable features.

Initial plans for the He 162 came out just 38 days before the first prototype flew, making for an astounding development timeframe. The fuselage was developed from metal allows and plywood for the most inexpensive combination available. Mounting the engine atop the fuselage in no way hampered performance of the aircraft as a whole, though it did provide some instability issues in terms of handling capabilities that pilots should be made aware of, especially considering the nature of the dogfight.

With an intended production goal of about 4,000 a month, the He 162 was to overwhelm the Allied forces through sheer numbers. This became more idealistic than truth, as the supplies and trained aircrews were running thin for the Reich by this time. With that said, training for Hitler Youth ensued but in towed gliders, minimal zing the true learning curve apparent in an advanced aircraft such as the He 162 was to be. Final training was to conclude with Hitler Youth in actual combat.

The dream of the inexpensive lightweight jetfighter piloted by masses of young Hitler Youth men was never to be realized. In the end, British forces took over the airfield housing the only operational Volksjager air group, eventually taking eleven samples back to Britain for further testing and review. Of the 800 initial batch Volksjagers produced, only about 200 would ever actually make it out of the factory gates, the rest remaining in their place in underground factories found throughout Germany.

Incidentally, te He 162 Volksjager is sometimes incorrectly given the name of "Salamander" when, in fact, Salamander is the name given to the entire project of producing the lightweight jet fighter. Volksjager remains the official designation. By MilitaryFactory.com

for fh2 forums, I think there should be a separate category for discussing ww2 other than off topic, any one want to support this?

General Discussion / Port en Bessin: analyzing the pictures
« on: 11-03-2010, 02:03:03 »

I love this map so far, just wanted to point out a few things that need to be improved(maybe).

It looks empty, not enough atmosphere in it, looks empty.

Look at Pointe du Hoc, lots of atmosphere, PHL is full of atmosphere, I love it. Looks like a really realistic scenario.

I love Port de Bessin, good job just wanted to point out a few things, Good job looks like a good map, I am not disappointed, my impressions.

Good job Fh2 team, can't wait to see you on the battlefield soldiers!

Modding / Forward Push[Fh2 Mod mod]
« on: 14-11-2009, 03:11:53 »
Hi people, I am going to start work on a mod for fh2. It will add new maps mainly in Sicly, Itily, Belgiam, Holland. I was wondering if any one wants to help. There will be new vehicles, statics, weapons maybe factions. I don't want to be the leader though, just research and sorta modeler and kind of mapper.
Skills
mapper: Fh2 quility maps
Moddeler:Decent moddeler
Coder:Good
Mod leader: Skills like the above(all or most)
The mod focuses on maps left out by fh2 devs, realistic maps. There will be vehicles like the m-18 hellcat. Expect a better version of this soon.

Battle of Ortona Known as "Little Stalingrad", the small village of Ortona on the Adriatic coast of Italy became the scene of a fierce battle between the advancing First Canadian Division and the elite German 3rd Parachute Regiment of the First Parachute Division.

The bitter street fighting, snipers and booby traps claimed so many lives on both sides that the battle was known as "Little Stalingrad" or, the "Stalingrad of Italy."

Hitler ordered the town be held at all costs. Ortona became a symbol, as important as Rome. The battle was a matter of national prestige at home & abroad.

1,375 Canadians were killed in and around Ortona in December 1943, 2,339 were casualties.

Juno Beach Juno Beach was the code name for the Canadian landing site on D-Day. Appropriately, our visit to Juno Beach was on a cool, cloudy, breezy day. The D-Day beaches and monuments fall in the must see in your lifetime category.

Today, the bunker has been converted into a museum (the Atlantic Wall Museum to be exact) featuring landing craft, a V1 rocket and tanks outside and multi-level displays of WWII guns, grenades and other equipment inside, as well as maintaining features of the defence bunker itself.

The video features some general views inside and outside the bunker and ends with a model showing a cross section of the German beach defenses at Normandy.

Please take a look at Video History Today http://www.videohistorytoday.com , the first web site to offer unique collections of re-usable original video clips designed for teachers and students.

The idea behind Video History Today is to give schools the raw material to make mini-documentaries and video essays on historical subjects.

Initial packages focus on World War I (Somme and Ieper areas), The Holocaust, the American Civil War and D-Day & Normandy 1944.

Battle of the Scheldt The Battle of the Scheldt was a series of military operations of the First Canadian Army, led by Lieutenant General Guy Simonds. The battle took place in northern Belgium and southwestern Netherlands during World War II from October 2, 1944 to November 8, 1944[1]
By September, 1944, it had become urgent for the Allies to clear both banks of the Scheldt estuary in order to open the port of Antwerp to Allied shipping, thus easing logistical burdens in their supply lines stretching hundreds of miles from Normandy eastward to the Siegfried Line.[2] Since the Allied forces had landed in Normandy, France on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the British Second Army had pushed forward into the Low Countries and captured Brussels and Antwerp, the latter with its ports still intact. But the advance halted with the British in possession of Antwerp, while the Germans still controlled the Scheldt Estuary.
Nothing was done about the blocked Antwerp ports during September because most of the strained Allied resources were allocated to Operation Market Garden, a bold plan for a single thrust into Germany which began on September 17. In the meantime, German forces in the Scheldt were able to plan a defense.
In early October, after Market Garden had failed with heavy losses, Allied forces led by the First Canadian Army set out to bring the Antwerp ports under control. But the well-established German defenders staged an effective delaying action. Complicated by the waterlogged terrain, the Battle of the Scheldt proved to be an especially grueling and costly campaign. Historians have largely ignored it until recent years.
After five weeks of difficult fighting, the First Canadian Army, bolstered by attached troops from several other countries, was successful in winning the Scheldt after numerous amphibious assaults, crossing of canals, and fighting over open ground. Both land and water were mined, and the Germans defended their retreating line with artillery and snipers.
The Allies finally cleared the port areas on November 8, but at a cost of 12,873 Allied casualties (killed, wounded, or missing), half of them Canadians.[3]
Once the German defenders were no longer a threat, it was an additional three weeks before the first ship carrying Allied supplies was able to unload in Antwerp (on November 29, 1944) due to the necessity of de-mining the harbors. From Wikipedia

Wasp Mk IIC Well the Wasp is a universal Carrier variant with a Flamethrower! The flamethrower has a range of 110m. As the Universal Carriers aren't the best vehicle to use, but the wasp is really helpful and would maybe make the Germans jealous(they got Panzars, Tigers and like invincible tanks. I mean it would be sweet burning your way through to the enemy.

I have read people don't want the wrench to fix vehicles, well I don't want a handheld welder so I have found a better idea the Chevrolet Field Repair Workshop, It would make it more realistic ww2 experience and I think some people will agree.

If you know what belgian gates are, Then I Think on the normandy beaches they should have some(That are destructble), So for example on Juno you need to blow up some of it as your first objective. Just saying it would be cool.
