Do you wish for new maps and content in FH2? Would you like to fight on new battlefields in theatres not currently included in FH2?

This weekend, the newly formed FH2Tournament invites you to join us in our first public custom map event showcasing 5 custom maps spanning the Italian Campaign of World War II. These maps have been battled tested in several campaigns of the Forgotten Honor and World at War FH2 Tournaments.

As a special bonus we will be running the new 130 player player code which also allows 8 player squads. A big thanks to the developer Nemes1s and the FH2 devs involved in helping getting 64+ servers to work! This means even more epic battles on great custom maps!

Five outstanding custom maps are included in the event map pack.

31 July - 6 August 1943
Large scale combined arms engagement focussed on a large town

Amphibious invasion of Salerno Harbour

January 1944
Large scale combined arms around the river Garigliano

Simply download and run the installer. It will ask for the location of your Battlefield 2 directory.
The maps and all required files will be installed. Your stock FH2 installation will not be interfered with.

Historical information about the battles the maps are based on:

Biazza (Biazza Ridge): US vs DE/IT

On July 11, 1943 another critical battle was fought on Biazza Ridge, which guarded the high ground overlooking the 45th Division landing beaches. At one point the morning of July 10 Gavin’s tiny band encountered a thirty-five man Italian anti-paratroop patrol.
At about 8:30 a.m. on July 11, as Gavin was headed west along Route 115 in the direction of Gela, he began rounding up scattered groups of 505th paratroopers and infantrymen of the 45th Division and successfully attacked a ridge that overlooked a road junction at the east end of the Acate Valley. It was called Biazza Ridge. Gavin established hasty defenses on the ridge, overlooking the road junction, Ponte Dirillo and the Acate River valley. Although he had no tanks or artillery to support him, he immediately surmised the importance of holding the ridge as the only Allied force between the Germans and their unhindered exploitation of the exposed left flank of the 45th Division and the thinly held right flank of the 1st Division. Against Gavin that day was the entire eastern task force of the Hermann Göring Division: at least 700 infantry, an armored artillery battalion, and a company of Tiger Tanks.

The Battle of Troina took place between 31 July and 6 August 1943. The Battle of Troina began on 31 July, when the Germans repelled an advance by the 39th Infantry Regiment, a 9th Infantry Division formation temporarily attached to the 1st Division. This setback forced Bradley and Major General Terry de la Mesa Allen (the commander of the 1st Infantry Division), to orchestrate a massive assault. Over the next six days the men of the 1st Infantry Division, together with elements of the 9th Division, a French Moroccan infantry battalion.

In January 1944, the allies were held up in Italy on the Gustav line. The 10th British Corps had the task of breaking through on the southern flank, from the mouth of the Garigliano to Cassino, on the 17th January, to pave the way for the Anzio landing on the 22nd January.

Also referred to as the Fourth Battle of Monte Cassino was an offensive operation undertaken by the Allies (U.S. Fifth and British Eighth Armies) in May 1944, as part of the Italian Campaign. It was launched at 2300 Hours on 11 May 1944 to break the German defenses on the western half of the Winter Line and open up the Liri Valley, the main route to Rome.

Maybe I should clarify a bit.  In a pubby match these guys are a bunch of drunk assholes.  In a tournament setting they are a well oiled machine of drunk assholes.   ;D

This is really cool 8), i had suggested an Italian Campaign before, but they said they had no buildings.  Hopefully this will give them alittle nudge to get the campaign into the game now.  Cant wait to download and try it out.

I was just about to post that, the colors look like the picture was taken from a satellite. Can't wait to see what it looks like from a soldier's perspective. Diadem on the other hand... pitch black void. I reckon upping brightness will be a necessity ;D

Some of these maps look excellent!!

Are you / are you willing to co-operate with devs to get some of the better maps into the mod as full maps?

That way, they would be played allot more and it could speed up the development process of the mod. AFAIK map development is one of the most time-consuming parts of development and key bottleneck.

Had a quick look at all of the maps and I gotta say that while Gargliano looked the most promising from the minimap, I have to say the winner has got to be Salerno. It surprised me a lot. Will be very interesting to see how will these maps play out!

Biazza Ridge   nice map... but later on if used in campaign... remove that red zone in the middle of the map and put another bridge and road.. would be a better map....  needs more tanks..

I have to say the winner has got to be Salerno. It surprised me a lot. Will be very interesting to see how will these maps play out!

Oh Salerno is sooo great! It was one of the best tourney maps that I have ever played. (although everyone experiencing a lot of lag approaching the Est flag through the forest. Hope this has been fixed)

Would the FH2 devs be willing to co-operate with us to get some of the better maps into the mod as full maps?
I have said this for years, that the tournaments and devs should have had closer cooperation getting new maps and fronts into the mod, but the counter-argument was always "tournament maps are not high enough quality and/or suited for public play". Hurr. As if they couldn't be improved, as has been done in those rare cases when such an impossibility became a reality and a tourney map made it into the mod. (I still don't understand the hate ppl have towards Olympus, that's one of the best maps in the game.)

Well IRL you had to go outside and reload it from there so I expect it takes eternity.

You can land the C-47 in the backcountry and use it as mopbile spawn there, as the vehicle itself  is a spawnpoint :P

But I agree, it doesn't make sense. There should be a rifleman class or something with parachutes. Would be cool when you can just circle around the enemy lines and let people paradrop down. But maybe this was exactly not intended. It's quite easy to land though.

Go in the main menu for multiplayer-> create local server or smth like that and the check the list for the maps and try them if you like. But usually nothing should have gone wrong. You just need to run the installer and you are fine.

Honestly, I don't remember the reload time :(. I assure you though that when I was testing it even though it took a lot of time, it did fire the shell.

Just extract the fh2t_pub to your bf\mods\fh2 folder

The rar file should be setup so you only drop everything right in fh2 folder.

But here an example

fht2_pub folder goes directly under battlefield 2\mods\fh2\
all fht2_levelname goes under battlefield 2\mods\fh2\levels\
localization folder drops into battlefield 2\mods\fh2\  (it will ask you to merge with the current localization folder, but don't worry, it will not actually overwrite any files in there)

And it's not only a few buildings missing trainz, the whole troina city and most of salerno will be missing :) + you won't be able to play online.

Also, apparently Punkbuster recently had a BF2 update.

Trying reinstalling FH2 atm.

Noticed it asked me "1.5 not installed, sure you wanna go through?" even though I have 1.5 installed and have played easily before. Weird.

edit: Well, apparently I just needed to play BF2 again to get it to work. will be on soon

If you do not have the hotfix you will crash when you try and use parachutes!

Crashed on Etna Line - had just destroyed a Sherman with Panzer III in the town and got a crash to desktop. Like most FH2 crashes all I had to do was switch my monitor resolution back to where it should be (when FH2 crashes for me the monitor resolution reverts back to 800x600 @ 16-bit colors) and I just installed the hotfix so hopefully everything is good. 99% sure it was just a crash on my end but it seems the sort of thing to post about in here.

New maps look great, hope to see more people joining soon.

it's not hard at all.  I just did it while working and drinking coffee, barely paying attention to it, and I get real confused overthinking these things -- so if it was easy for me....

Step 1.: Installer file:

Just run it, and unless you installed your BF2/FH2 in some random folder, you don't need to do anything.

Step 2: Update: Hotfix required
Extract to your Battlefield 2\mods\fh2 directory and overwrite all files.

Yes, when you open the RAR you will find a levels folder. When you dump the levels folder from the RAR into the FH2 directory, it will ask for a merge to the existing levels directory, and will put the new updated maps in there where they are supposed to be -- so long as you tell it to over write or "move and replace" all.

I think you should add some spotlights to Operation Diadem to search the enemy in the dark.

In Salerno, you should add some more landing boats near lungomare and reinforcements flag because landing boats only attack west beachhead and that makes the battle imbalanced. Also add some MG positions on landing zones.

On Etna Line, there are empty barracks on G2, northwest part of the map. That colud make a pretty rear line spawnpoint. A few pickup kits, ammo trucks and mortars would be nice there.

Also how come these lands be in Italy and we dont see the Italian army? At least change a map to have the Italians or make German + Italian just like on the map Tunis.

I wanted to say thank you for setting up this event. I enjoyed it very much and the maps work out damn well. Though I have to say that 130 players might be a littlebit too many players in certain areas like the castle on Salerno, but other than that they all have a nice fluid gameplay and you have enough room to flank and enough time to think about your next step. Only Etna Line could need a different ground texture as it looks wierd with the vegetation on it. But it isn't a gamebreaker either.

I am looking forward to some bug fixes for tomorrow for the maps that didn't work today,

Edit: Would it be possible to implement some other of the WaW or FlH maps for this special weekend event. I remember some nice maps like Supplies for Malta, Wake Island, Iwo Jima and all that stuff. I don't know whether it is possible but it would add some more variation to the rotation. Just an idea ...

great stuff fht and waw teams!

i liked all 3 maps that we played today and i cant wait for the hotfix so i can finally use my mossie in action!

some feedback:

etna line:
i cant really say much about stuff on the ground since i spent every round bombing stuff in my 109. however i really have to say that flying, in general, and germans in particular, is quite a bummer on this map. simply because it takes about 80 tickets (dunno what the actual time is) for the planes to respawn and since the axis runway is very inconviently placed right on the border of the map, which is actually a big earthen wall, it makes it quite frustating since accidents on landing are quite quick to happen. (in fact most of the time axis airplanes would use the abandoned airstrip in the NE corner of the map to land and repair).
apart from that i enjoyed the map, however i also think that 130 might be a bit too much, since every time i flew over the city, my game turned into a slideshow (not recommended during flight...)

Salerno i think is really awesome, however sometimes the shadows are really messed up, sometimes so that you can see enemies through walls because of this. The other thing missing, imo was some instructions on the game mode. I know that originally this was a touranment map and so everyone knew the plan anyway, but since this event is public maybe some instructions on the map overlay would be good. (half the players probably dont know this is an objectives map!)

the night map is already awesome, and if you add flares and a couple of searchlights itll be pretty much my favorite nighttime map (i love the mountainous terrain!)

Edit: Would it be possible to implement some other of the WaW or FlH maps for this special weekend event. I remember some nice maps like Supplies for Malta, Wake Island, Iwo Jima and all that stuff. I don't know whether it is possible but it would add some more variation to the rotation. Just an idea ...

The plan for Operation Husky called for the amphibious assault of the island by two armies, one landing on the south eastern and one on the central southern coast. The amphibious assaults were to be supported by naval gunfire, and tactical bombing, interdiction and close air support by the combined air forces. The Allied land forces were drawn from the American, British and Canadian armies, and were structured as two task forces.

Is that the same map they used as Omaha once? Looks similar... I though there was a custom version of the DICE bf42 Rtr map Husky flying around somewhere for FH2? Always liked that map in the expansion  :)

thx for the event BTW! I had fun. that red lighted landing map was pretty cool. Too many enemies to pick your targets! the hills in the back were nice also. The mountain night map was crazy, bit too rugged in the terrain, often falling down and dying or getting stuck, but amazing height differences, and I liked the "path" between the two top flags, was really nice when two big opposing groups were pushing against each other in it. I'd reconsider the lighting and view distance in that map though,  bit too much getting shot from 360, would be nice to fall in to one "lane" like hurtgen. I also think the town in the beginning isnt needed. could be a small mountain outpost instead, like the one on top of the high mountain.

anyway, constant action and was never bored :)

A bit of feedback about VOIP -> I don't know what's wrong but it works quite randomly. I could hear and speak to some people in my squad, but not to the others. And it happened as well that I could hear and speak to one guy during one map, and couldn't the next map.

All in all great event ! Sadly three maps in rotation was a bit small :-\

The three maps are great however, this only problem I got was that Salerno is a bit too heavy for my computer, especially in the town. The amount of players was not the cause since it happened with 40 players too.

Oh and the teamswitching while being in a squad is just absurd...

It's clearly a consipiracy.

Etna Line is not removed from the maplist.
Biazza ridge crashed the server earlier today even with hotfix 2. There is obviously another error on the map that needs to be located and fixed before it can be played.

 Hi,

 I downloaded the map pack with hotfix 1 and everything was working fine.

Today, I downloaded Hotfix 2 (applied to levels folder) and now I crash when I try to connect.

 Any reasons why? I will check back in a couple of hours, so hopefully someone can put me on the right path. (methinks I am missing a patch file)

Corigliano is a beautiful map, but theres one thing what I don't like - airforce is quite unbalanced - the Spitfire IX is quite OP - Axis have bomber, Meser with bomb and this funny italian plane without special rounds... I suggest to replace this Italian plane by FW or Me without any bomb or if you want to have Italian plane, give him bombs (instead Me) and add FW or Me without bomb.

This funny Italian plane is one of the best fighters in the game in my opinion, really agile and small. Its mg does enough damage to win a dogfight fast, no cannons needed. Makes it just worse against ground forces. I agree that the Spitfire IX is strong though, but not sure if way too strong, maybe a little.

Anyway, should these maps ever make it to public, I'd propose to change the spawn of the Panzers on Salerno after the all three beach flags are capped. It can become quite a killwhore fest for Germans now.

And you're sure you installed it correctly?

- BF2 game not running
- run main installer
- extract hotfix #2 to mods\fh2\levels (it should ask whether to overwrite some files)
- check your mods\fh2\levels folder and make sure there is not another \levels subfolder
- start FH2
- join server

Played a bit more today. My ffedback:

General:
- Great job making these maps and organising events like this, keep up the good work!
- I had several ctd's, some with and some without BF2 mem error.

Maps:
- Diadem is OK, although only one real tank for allies is a bit meh.
- Salerno has sectorpush, but it is kind of hard to get flags which are so far apart at the same time. Also, the castleflag is often too hard to take. The fact that it becomes an objectovemap in the end should be communicated better to the players. Many were wondering why they had not won after capping all flags.
- Etna Line is a classic in the Italy campaign. The town is still a bit of an artificial maze. The rest is OK.
- Garigliano crossing is may fav map of this event. A tad unbalanced in fav of the allies, but very cool features (vehicles, static buildings like the farm with the cellar) and cool gameplay. Downsides are the low fps I had on this map and the spawnvehicles should be different imo. Not fast ones like the Schwimmwagen.

I had great fun, sadly there were also many whiners again who made it their daytime job to sum up as much crap they didn't like as they could. Please, go on an empty server and whine there next time. That way you can whine all the time and we can play in the meantime. Everybody happy.

Garagliano (Sp?) is beautifull but it lagged pretty bad for me, to the point that it was almost unplayable. Schwimmwagen spawn makes no sense, it just makes it a flaghopping vehicle.

Def agree with slayer about Troina, its well done but could do without some alleys. And spice up the rest of them, not just a bunch of boxes. Put some clotheslines between the houses, add some ambient noises etc. As for rest of Etna consider switching the pastawheel grass to something less obvious, I know its italy and all but its pretty noticeable  ;)

Salerno, I love it, problem is that the town gets capped in no time while the castle is a meatgrinder. The objective at the end was a real surprise but the germans didnt seem to have ability to defend it.

Diadem you gotta put the northern part beyond the mountain as OOb, a bunch of us fell down and was basicly stuck there. A flare gun for nco would be nice.

Gargliano is the best of the bunch, both gameplay-wise and graphically. Love the "hidden rebel base" in the barn's basement especially, and especially the flamethrower.

Etna, yeah, the town looks too barren, otherwise good job.

Salerno, first we were being slaughtered on the waterfront, then all the flags fell and we won like 700-0. Some balancing needed?

Diadem, the mountains are still a bit of hit and miss, there are places where you could seemingly walk but cannot, you fall unexpectedly to your death, and the terrain and the town look really barren. Lots more undergrowth and lots more statics in the town would make the map look better.

Biazza, needs push or sector push, now it's a nonstop backcapping frenzy (though not knowing the actual battle, this may actually be accurate to the real thing). Looks good though.

Overall, nice maps that with a little polishing and gameplay changes could well be made into official maps IMO.

Very nice weekend.  Maps gameplay and graphics were way over my expectations.   Most of them were little too big for my taste, but with the 64+ server, it wasn't problematic.   Thx for the event.   ;D

The maps have all quiet good potential to become official maps with some tweaks. They are all winnable for both teams, except Salerno where I never saw the german team winning with 64+ players. The other maps rely on good teamwork. We had a full working squad and it was fun as hell. We tried to play on both sides to see how it plays out and we were quiet successfull.

One of the few problems I had were the missing flag markers on the minimap on Garigliano Crossing and extremely floating walls on this map. I have to second that the spawn jeeps are not a good idea.

The rest is top notch and really brings fun for the player.

@Kwiot: when you feel the lack of teamplay, why don't you join a different squad or open a own one. I played with alot of different people these last three days and never had the feeling that I was surrounded by headless chickens.

They are all winnable for both teams, except Salerno where I never saw the german team winning with 64+ players.
Well, then that makes the set complete, because I didn't see axis win on Garigliano Crossing, but I did see them win Salerno (by holding the castle till round's end). :)

After 3 evenings playing I noticed several things:

Overall really great maps, but:
    - Garigliano is really unbalaced - especially airforce (Axis also needs Whirblewind), havent seen Axis win this map
    - Diadem needs better push mode - Americans usually won because of back capping; also suiciding by falling from the hill and getting stuck in the holes was quite annoying; also I suggest to remove mine kit - tanks can only use roads and it's to easy to eliminate them
    - Salerno is quite ok, maybe different push mode, like it was played in the campaign, but objectives should stat
    - Etna - Spit IX is really OP there, I don't know if theres any German plane who can lead equal dogfight against him, so I suggest to add Whirblewind; and less tickets for Americans - if Germans want to win, they will have to keep Americans all the time on the bleed, and I'm not sure if it would be enough (however the ticket ratio for 64 players might be ok)


And now some thoughts about gameplay:
-After reading some complaints about lack of efficiency of Germans tanks, I decided to check it out and drive a bit more than usually. I was quite shocked when I found out that Tiger need 2 shots to destroy M10 from the front and Panzer IV can't destroy Sherman from the side with one shot (even from close distance! This is ridiculous!
-People don't know how to play this game - usually whole team defends 1 flag while 5 others are also cappable and instead of defending them, they run like headless chickens around the map; people don't know what red cross or green loop means; there's no teamplay and theres no good sls - while attacking the flag, usually sl is running first, getting shot first and attack is failed or behaves in the way that you're geeting killed all the time...  ::)

Kwiot -  all I kept hearing from you (besides calling me a hacker) was complaining about your team instead of taking the lead and being proactive. Bashing out your team in all chat kills morale, yes, you will have idiots running around like idiots but not all are 'chicken heads'. Trust me when I say this, it takes 1 to make a diference in a round. All maps were great and had many strengths and weaknesses but regardless of what they were a good strategy can alaways balance the odds.
Garigliano - axis had more than sufficient AA statics at flags, including 88 Flak which shot me down plenty a time. High vegitation and natural surroundings to hide if you're a tanker attacking/defending flags. One tipical mistake I kept on seeing is german tankers were right in the open for everyone to see.

Had lots of fun overall and my love remains true to the Spitfire IX, thanks Avro for the treat  ;D

PS: the only true match against spit9 would be either a 109K4 or ME262 given that someone fixes the K4  :-*

The 88 at Church on Garigliano was fucking awesome, I have never ever had so many AA kills with the Flak in my life. It was like that was the ONLY Flak I could hit a plane with, actually, as I normally can't hit shit with it. :D

one thing i didnt like was  all the players
are so DARK on them maps. was it just me ?
and found it bit lagy my ping was high
im in Canada .
it was hard tell diff sides apart ei was dark
i play axis all the time so i dont shoot guy on my side
so if i killed any one on my side

Lighting should definitely be improved on Diadem, game objects are apparently not lightmapped well (too bright and without "shadows"). Etna Line might have been improved since I last played that map, unfortunately the terrain still feels kind of bright. I don't know if it is intended, but it doesn't feel "immersive". Salerno has too dark player models, yes. I like the sun and the dawn setting, but the it almost looks like as if the players were shadows themselves sometimes. I also noticed some of the buildings weren't lightmapped. Gargiliano on the other hand seems too much bright, it could be the post procesing filter though (if one was applied) as I don't think objects stand too much out of their surroundings.

Biazza has always been a neat map, ever since late 2009 when I first played that map. But the new flag in the north could use some tweaking regarding its "blandness". Currently it's just a couple of buildings thrown onto a flat ground only being there for the sole purpose of having that capture point there. Could certainly use a bit more variety, add some boxes, wheelbarrows, sandbags whatever. And some ground color variation on top of that (some sand spots here and there perhaps like something was transported there...).

My favorite map was definitely Garigliano Crossing. Beautiful, loads of great toys (BMW R71 especially), completely open so it's easy to flank and maneuver, all elements of attack included (land, sea, air) and with plenty of transport (incl. C47 for airdrop). It really felt like the golden days of FH1, which is a plus in my book as I had so much fun with FH1.

On Etna Line I mostly just fought as infantry in the town, as getting out in the open without a tank meant getting killed by mobile AA. Still very much enjoyable.

I can't really comment on Salerno and Biazza Ridge. First one I played once and Biazza Ridge I've yet to try out.

Least favorite at the moment is Operation Diadem, mostly 'cause I'm not a fan of night maps. Also, because to me it just felt like an endless grenade spam fest combined with falling off mountains every now and then.


Overall a very enjoyable event, thanks to F|H and WaW for making it happen. It was also great to see so many players online. At some point the 130 player server was close to full while 762 was almost full, plus a couple of guys on hslan.
