Drive 2011
A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.
The first 10 min are EPIC, the soundtrack gives this movie something special, the acting and camerawork are good, i thought the ending sucked because its kinda abupt and it doenst really fit in with the rest but this movie is a great ride!
What a coincidence, just finished watching it myself. The whole movie was EPIC and the ending was not out of place at all. (SPOILERS below for those who have not yet seen this masterpiece, regarding this argument.) My only gripe was that Ron Perlman's jawbones seemed to be from a completely different movie altogether as far as acting was concerned.

The ending fits, because The Driver never cared about the money. See, in the beginning he pulls three jobs: mechanic, stuntman, heist driver, so he has to make a pretty good living, yet he lives in a spartan small rental apartment. He leaves the money, because that way, he can get out, and protect Irene and Benicio (even if Irene dumped him earlier), which was his sole motivation all along - as evident from the scene where Cook tells he will get nothing out of the heist that was supposed to get Standard off the hook.

Of course, this is not the point, the point is that the Driver is not a shy young man who's fallen into bad company, but a sociopath who has trouble managing even day-to-day communication with human beings, much less serious feelings or affection or intimacy. Perhaps a touch of Asperger's or even autism there - shades of Rain Man in there that he's basically a "idiot savant" with all things automotive. Also, there is clearly the intent that The Driver has confused the movies he makes with reality, even down to wearing a "superhero costume" (the scorpion jacket). However, when you try to bring in the modus operandi of action movies into "real life" (or a movie resembling it), it's going to get very messy very soon and people are going to die horribly, and that's what happens.

Also, funny to see Dudes of Internet still arguing about the ending, even after the director and the author of the original book have stated that The Driver survives, intent being the symbolism of the iconic "cowboy of few words" riding into sunset in search of a new adventure after he's defeated the baddies.

Watched Hobo with a Shotgun as well. Best vigilante movie since Death Wish III, and with all that gore and political incorrectness and gratuotous nudity and sick humour and the 80's style you really can't go wrong. Funniest comedy of 2011, and the best action movie of 2011 along with Sucker Punch.

Countdown to Zero

Great documentary about nuclear development, dis-armament, and all sorts of information that has to do with nuclear weapons. 9/10

OK, picture this.

- Go back to 1989

- Get Eric Roberts to play the main character

- Get Sean Penns less famous brother get a supporting role

- Do a Karate Kid movie for an older audience

- Get a good title

- Fix some nice 80's montage scenes

- A wild James Earl Jones appear!

And that's all, now you have this!

It's actually quite, OK even watching the sequel at the moment.

Hobo with a Shotgun

I love these kinds of films. Not because of all the violence, blood and cursing. It's just because this movie never tries to be anything else. It's just what the title says. Just like those old games to Sega Master System. You had 'Golf' and you had 'Bomber Raid' the titles said it all. It's the same with this movie. You know what you get and you can't really be disappointed.

Rutger Hauer as a homeless man who gets sick with all the crime around him.

Add shotgun.

Instant classic.

Watched the trailer, with a smile on my face through it all.

Then when I saw the guy who gets decapitated when stuck in that manhole, oh god I lost it. Long since I laughed that hard.

So I decided to watch... Black Swan

And it was amazing.

Never ever seen anything quite like it. Stunning performance by Natalie Portman.

A dark and evil thriller with an extremely dark tone. I recommend it to anyone.

I just watched Cheyenne - This must be the place. I'll give it a 9/10.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440345/

A great piece of character cinema. The plot was intriguing and Sean Penn was at his best.
Camera movement and visuals are some of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen in a movie. Damn backwater America has such a great character. The dialogues are terrific and challenging, god I love the depressive character of Sean. ^^
Great music (omg it features David Byrne) and a story that unfolds just as life would.

If you're tired of normal action flicks, then watch this!!! (two exclamation marks more for good measure :D)

"Here be dragons"

A wonderful representation of a story of two former friends, who find themselves in the middle of Spanish Civil War. Little or no heroism, just life, as it could be for a rich dude who found himself among the fascists trying to restore his position in the society and for a priest, who is doing his duty of looking for christian souls in Madid in times of war.

What is peculiar about the movie is nice attention to detail (like the T-26 tankers speaking in Russian, although the whole background scene is no more than a few seconds), military equipment, which, luckily for all of us, is becoming a norm rather than something unusual as it used to be a few decades ago.

The final touch why I liked the movie is that the main character, who is on the fascist side, is shown as an utter scum (although some communist militiamen are not much better), while two other charismatic "good" characters are fighting on for other side. Given that I greatly sympathize with the Republicans, it was quite enjoyable :)

Flowers of War 9/10

Another movie where Christian Bale shows his talent, although in this one he almost loses out to the other actors. Ni Ni, Xinyi Zhang and Tong Dawei were great!
Damn this is a depressing movie, but what else can you expect from a story set during the Nanking Massacre.
It has it all, great visuals, a heart braking story arch and gripping scenes.

I 'enjoyed' the movie and it kept me watching for the entire 146 min :)

The Grey - 8/10
( Liam Neeson + Wilderness ) / Wolves = Badassery waiting to happen.
The crash scene was particularly...powerful.
