Here is a story I didn't get over yet.

I just finished work at midnight. A co-worker had offered to drive me home and as I felt hungry, we stopped at turkish restaurant for some Doner Kebab. I was just coming out of the restaurant when I was adressed by a couple right in front of the door. I turned my head around and was just about to say 'no' like I'd always do when people adress me there asking for such usual things like a €uro coin or a free ride home.

But then they revealed to be undercover policemen and I was turning around saying 'what?' Meanwhile they came at me holding some piece of official ID into my face and I was saying 'lick my a...a...a' and shut my mouth again before completing the sentence. I looked at my food, looked at the cops, released a sigh and dropped the bag with food into the snow, grabbing for my wallet.

So while he was phoning home checking my ID, I asked her for their reason to check my ID in particular, and she reasoned it with the 'current public security situation'. I was raising my eyebrows looking at her thinking 'current public security situation MY ASS'.

So the current public security situation in Germany requires to check the ID of winterly clothed people coming out of Doner Kebab stores. Sure. Why not? What is next? Police state tomorrow? Racism? Anyone?

At home I looked at my ID. Date of expiry is August 23rd, 2014. Didn't seem to bother them. I'm glad I'm no foreigner. Or applying for asylum. Must be that I'm a good german. One of those true germans who can afford to run around with expired ID-cards without being bothered. Even at the current public security situation. Amazing. I'm just glad that our police isn't racist. No way. Never. ::)

The only privilege you earn is probably slipping "lick my a...a...a" without repercussions.

Slightly lucky with discriminating attitude in the west is East Asians (Orientals), as my experience in Australia suggests. We can get naughty with only mild reaction from the officers. You can even date with white boys/girls and almost no one bats an eye. The only objections probably came from their parents (most probably the Asian side). One South Asian guy got into argument with some stranger just because he is walking with his white girlfriend.

The Africans get worse treatment, even the well-behaving ones. But at certain place, they are put above Asians. E.g. there was a dark-skinned Dutch Moluccas who refused to hang out with people other than her white Europeans. She frowned on one Korean girl trying to join in their groupies. She refused to talk or greet non-whites... yes this is real. On the other hand, African tourists are always suspected as drug dealer or money launderer here. Even if they come from Kenya or Namibia or some rich African countries, which have better system than our own country.

Now, Middle Easterners. A lot of Arab teenagers are unruly, I know, because their parents are rich, which is the same problem with the Chinese "little kings". If their parents are not rich, they instantly become bogan and involved in petty crimes. I don't get it, but why make their own life harsh? This is also applies for Christian middle easterners. Why settle things with violence? One boy was stabbed through his bible over a fight about who got the girlfriend, and died. In another place like here, they are worshiped. Some even openly say that they are "one class" higher than the locals. So we have a lot of new weird mazhab (Islamic school of doctrine) coming from every "fresh" Arab imports. This is not helped at all by the fanatics who settle differences in religious doctrine interpretation with violence.

So in overall, being checked for ID, getting away with expired ones, and laments about potential racism with such profiling, aren't you being easily too political or enjoy too much first world comfort? When another attack happened, nobody should point out to Captain hindsight about what should have been done. Tough luck with profiling, even the police here might find it difficult to differentiate Sarah Palin and Tina Fey.

Turks don't engage in terror activities afaik. Probably checked to see if you're an illegal immigrant or not. It's pretty common here in asia, weird thing is that civilian police engaged in such action.

Of all the vodkas I have tried so far, I enjoy Stolichnya and Russian Standard. Ketel One is ok but doesn't smell like vodka/rubbing alcohol. It is only 80 proof and doesn't seem too strong.

I would agree with this. Apparently all the Stoli shipped to the states is generally out of their factory/brewery in Latvia as opposed to the Russian one.

With less and lesser population of WW2 veterans, I hope the young people nowadays are still aware about the horrors of the war and not easily goaded into war to settle conflicts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolichnaya

Bottled in Latvia for international markets alcohol itself is russian, some other company does it for Russian market. I guess it's far more easier to export from EU country rather than Russia.

What i noticed about the book was that even a single tiger on the battlefield had a huge impact on the russians.

Reading the battle reports in the last part of the book is also crazy. In certain battles 5 tigers tallied up over 1500 infantry kills and many tanks and at guns in a single day with the help of infantry without losing a single tank or crew member due to enemy fire.

Another neat book is sniper on the eastern front, also gives a great soldiers view on the war.
