Title: FH2 Zombies beta release! (1-19-13)

After an extended development time, I finally decided to just release what was done as an open beta. It was taking so long that it was starting to stress me out.

Anyhow, this is a beta, so it's lacking a little bit of polish. There are a few minor cosmetic things that I need to change, such as team names and flag icons, but those don't directly affect gameplay so I'll figure out how to change them later. There might be a couple bugs, but I tried to get rid of most of them.

At the moment, I don't want this submitted to any mod news sites. It's a bit too rough for that.

Requirements:
BF2 fully patched
FH2 fully patched

Installation instructions, this is VERY important:


The folder "FH2Zombies" goes into the EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods folder, obviously.

In order to launch the mod, you MUST configure and use the provided shortcut.

Right click the shortcut, and go to properties. Make sure the target location points to your FH2.exe, NOT THE BF2.exe.

Here is what my shortcut looks like. You absolutely must have the +modpath line at the end.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\FH2.exe" +modPath mods/fh2zombies

Once this is done, you can apply the provided FH2Z icon image to the shortcut if you want. Just click the change icon button, and navigate into the FH2 Zombies mod folder and it should show up.


Please read the readme for other important information, such as co-op settings.

Just as a heads up, due to certain problems I had, the default player team is always the zombie side. Just switch to the survivor side and everything will be fine.

It has been a while, and I completely forgot if I included anyone elses content in the mod. I'm pretty sure I made all the textures in this version myself, but if you spot something that you definitely made, let me know and I'll credit you. I also kind of.. forgot to credit myself. lol.

Things I'm aware of:
Zombie and Survivor teams are currently "America and Germany" respectively. Needs renaming.
Flag icons are American and German, instead of survivor and zombie. (I need to find out why I cant save the flag icon dds.)
There might be a crash on Eppeldorf if you play with survivor bots. But it seems to work fine with just zombies. This is probably due to the push mode.

If you find any bugs, let me know.

Things I have planned:
Convert all of the maps.
Add additional "fun" things to the maps. Right now quite a few have a stock selection.
Bring back the old sprinting system. No more infinite sprint.
Make zombies walk faster. (possibly)
Find out why I can't save my custom flag icons.
Rename sides.
More polish all around.

If there are any major bugs, I will fix them as soon as possible and release a patch.

Multiplayer:
Me and Havocide were planning on renting an actual server for this, but there were money problems.

For now, I highly recommend using tunngle (http://www.tunngle.net/). It's far more stable than hamachi. Just set up a "local" server and you and your friends can start playing.

Hopefully everything works right and you guys enjoy what's done so far! There may not be as much unique equipment as I had wanted, but there's still plenty of zombies to bully! And they seem a bit smarter in this version too.

By the way, there's only one easter egg in this version. It's a vehicle. Depending on how much you like Japanese stuff, you may be shocked or delighted. ;)

The uploader couldn't upload it tonight apparently, so I have to upload to a mirror myself. This will take a while because I have really slow DSL.

I played a bit on Vossenack so far. The Zombie AI seems to work well, they try to defend and even attack the crossed out main base. The survivor AI on the other hand bugs around a bit and does not try to cap something nor does it spawn on the SL. I like the new vehicles and it is really good to have FH2 Zombies back. One weapon that you could maybe buff or remove would be the PzB39. Maybe you could modify it to have better or at least the same precision as the K98 because in Zombie mode, it is even worse than versus tanks in Africa.

Yeah, I didn't really test the survivor AI. In order to get the zombies to ignore the flags I had to remove the code for them. Which also makes survivors ignore them.  :P

I added the Pzb to be an analogue to the ptrd, and yeah it could probably use some buffing.

Ah dang, thought I fixed that. This happened after you selected the NCO kit right?

Dang secure python code makes it nearly impossible to fix that.. so I'll have to make the Italian NCO German..

A friend of mine has a non working FH2 shortcut. He just started Vanilla and joined my server so that the games started the mod by itself.

yes, shader were bugged. eveytime you launch mod from the game, shaders went black and white n shit while aiming.

Yeah the normal shortcut works :(
Perhaps I have the shortcut info wrong. Can someone with the steam version of bf2 copy and paste what they inputted into the shortcut?

Does it still mess up the shaders if you start it in the game? I never experienced this since the new version of Forgotten Hope 2; neither does my friend who joined me that way.

No, it's not on Brest.

Wake Island was always fun to play with friends. Two or three take the flags and one is on the arty or strafes with the P47. The new maps you added are fun too :)

The thing that most i laughed at was the Matilda in Vossenack that popped molotovs in the air ;D

Bump. Any chance to get Wake Island working for the new version of the zombie mod? I've heard it is complicated to get an old map into a new version of FH2.

I had to move my bf2 installation somewhere due to running out of space on my drives. The map shouldn't be too hard to convert, but no promise that I can actually get around to it.

Anyhow, I've been too busy lately and haven't been able to work on this. I also ran out of motivation as well.

So from this point on, I consider the mod "open-source" and anyone can continue to mod it and do whatever they want with it. I would recommend renaming it though, to distinguish it from my old version.

I still couldnt find the easteregg tank...  :-[ can I have a hint?

Guess I should've tested ancto more. I didn't have a chance to test with multiple people.

As you can see here, bots dont really get the vehicles out of the base, sometimes they dont even move. I suggest to remake all bot support since this bug is on all maps:

-Please remove the irritating sound that starts to play when the survivors got only 10 tickets.

If you could cooperate with them...  Their 3p zombie animations are so cool, and some sounds etc... might be shared.

If there is a voulenteer mapper, can he make some city maps with tons of Zombies? I've got a concept.

Its a map where you try to fight while run towards an escape vehicle, just like Escape from Crete. You start in a city, trying to move towards the harbour -where a ship is waiting for you- with limited ammo. There will be zombies waiting around the city, and there are a few ammo boxes scattered around the streets, which is basically a labyrinth kind of thing without the dead ends:

the concept is still rough, can be improved vastly. I cant do it myself because I cant map, but if anyone voulenteers, we could get a diamond out of this. :)

Ehh.. well the problem with that and all some of the other Russian equipment I made early on is because I forgot to specify the textures as Russian with the "_ramelle" tag. So instead of being on some maps they're on all of them. Oops.  :(

I never really tested survivor bots, and I think they're broken because of changes I had to make to get the zombies to work. I was mostly gearing toward CO-OP play.

Pistols have the default ammo partially because I was lazy and partially to make the map harder. I figured situations where you run out of ammo and desperately flee hoping to find a pick up kit would be more fun.  :P

Kit icons?:

The zombie side has no kit icons partially because I was lazy and partially because the zombie side technically isn't intended to be playable.

I think I just used the FH1 textures as a reference for that star. If someone else wants to do it I'm pretty sure I still have the PSD laying around. That star you posted is also an aviation one according to the filename.  :P

Yeah I didn't know if there was any way to prevent that. Zombies aren't really meant to be playable anyhow.

I appreciate them, but I've kind of retired from this mod. I just don't have the time or will to work on it anymore.

Anyone is welcome to take what's already done and make their own version though. Maybe a bunch of you guys could get together and make it better than I ever could.  ;)

There's no survivor faction, I just used pre-existing kits. Except for GW_ZOMBIE UW_ZOMBIE and uh... GW_Lupinkit I think.

I believe (not for sure ;D) you have to do it also on the BF2Editor (edit maps/kits/vehicles).
The same jolly stuff i am working on. 8)

I did absolutely everything in notepad.  :P

Easiest thing to do would be just to look at the maps I edited and copy paste chunks of code.  :P

Only things that are really changed if I recall are init.con (zombies have to be on team 2 or stupid things happen.)


gameLogic.setKit 2 0 "gw_zombie" "GcWhSnow_white"

Is all you really need to get some zombies. If you want to tweak their AI, check out the ai folder in the coop folder.. in the maps folder.


texturemanager.customTextureSuffix "ramelle"
texturemanager.customTextureSuffix "brest" (I think)

and a couple other ones load zombie textures.

I just finished a quick and dirty patch with the wake island map. It also includes a couple mega-minor changes to the rest of the mod, although I can't even remember what they were. I don't even think I fixed any bugs.. Either way, all players will have to have this patch if they want to play wake.

Oh right, I "fixed" some dumb code which would make American survivors look like zombies. In order to use American survivors in your map, add these lines into the appropriate spot:

LevelSettings.CustomTextureSuffix "ORIG"


texturemanager.customTextureSuffix "ORIG"

Hopefully this patch works right, I didn't have a chance to test it with anyone.

Can't fix those. It has something to do with the maps AI pathing or whatever, which is beyond my abilities.

I am trying to add Bardia and Ramelle to this minimod, then I change the kits in the "Init.con" file to the appropriate zombie or survivor kits.
The kits do not show up at the start screen and then bardia or ramelle crashes to desktop before i spawn. :-\

I do realize i probably need to add zombie AI and other stuff?

I am sure i did do that, exported the orig server.zip files onto a temporary folder (changed the kits in the Init.con), zipped it back up, replaced the old server.zip with the new one. Then, finally i packed it with the 2.45 mappacking script.

It doesn't work that way, Roughbeak. You should unpack both server.zip and client.zip straight to the level folder ("Extract Here" option), modify whatever files you need, then run the script, without manually zipping anything. The script  updates some files and creates valid server.zip and client.zip for you.

 ok...so removing the weapons from the German Zombie Army is impossible?

 I never could get this to work. I wish i could help, but modding on BF2 is much different that 42.

 If you could turn this into a survival type scenario, like Day Z, it would be "mucho mejor"

You need to give the zombie team gw_zombie kits. That's technically the only thing that makes them zombies.

There's a sandstorm effect on Supercharge at Tell el Aqqaqir. Maybe you guys can look into how that works by going into the editor files.

Btw this looks great. I just started really following it and those new map atmospheres look AWESOME 8) really gives the map a new post apocalyptic feel. It'd be nice if all maps could have this new feel. I might try and dl it soon keep up the good work guys ;)

We are very close to a release! New lightings for some more maps, flare gun can kill, and also expect some surprises soon! Not sure if it will be in this version, but be sure, it is something I was waiting for a looong time!  :D

It seems that current version of minimod doesn't work with 2.46, so I made a small patch to fix it:

Got newest build to work, added new shotgun from develop013 weapon pack and tweaked it to fit other weapons. Isn't that perfect for custom zombie apocalypse?

Also I might add new reshade for release since it improve visuals.

However, after FH2 update I cannot modify fh2 maps and add zombie kits. Just after I load added new map, kit is invisible. I know it's more hardcoded but help is welcome.

Also I'll try to work on new build as I cannot get zombies to work on any new FH2 maps. Seems kits codding stuff have been changed. So I'd use old FH2 as new FH2z build and link soldiers/statics/weapons from newest one. I would be very happy to get russian maps to work with zombies.

The kits need to be loaded in the tmp.con. For that you need to pack the map using the map packing scripts from the fh2 main folder.

pack-map.py

Run the script, type in the name of your map, press enter. You need python to run the script, you can easily get that for free from their site. IIRC 2.8.2 is the latest version that is guaranteed to run the script.
