Yes it is. You can also make your own ship designs, which is always a plus! But beware, the campaign is VERY hard. Seriously, the main enemy are the dreaded Dread Lords, who get ships with 100s of damage while you get something like 12 with your best ship... I ended up using transports filled with nothing but weapons to kill them (the transports would still die in the process, as combat is obligatory bi-directional, meaning everyone gets at least one shot)...
This sentence is intentionally left unfinished...

Endless Space

Edit: Warning about Sins of solar empire. While great game too, it's not turn based, if that's what you are looking for.

You want Galactic Civilisations II. It didn't re-invent the wheel, but is the only game that simplified running large conglomerates of planets without causing you to get lost in micromanegement. The game is the only true successor of all turn based 4X strategy games. Note: I haven't checked Endless Space yet.

This is what you need:

Distant Worlds is quite similar. But it's expensive, it's not a good idea to buy it without a special offer (there surely will be one when the next expansion is released, i.e. soon).

All mentioned titles are great.
I'd want to add Stardrive (http://www.stardrivegame.com/), which is still in the beta, but is shaping up to be a real successor to MoO2. :)

Stardrive was released yesterday. I have not played too much of it, but my first impressions seem to indicate that this might be the proper space 4X game that I have been waiting for like... 10 years or so.

In case someone is interested, Distant Worlds: Shadows has been released 2 weeks ago. It's definitively worth playing (even though it still requires some patching for now).

There's a sale on the base game and all its expansions, 70$ the bundle, if I remember well the offer will remain available until early July.

So, I´m looking for one of the mentioned games here as I really need some new games atm. I have just a little experience in those games and propably don´t know the best, so I hope you can recommend me some

Basically, I watched "Wtf is... StarDrivE" and i kinded of liked what I see, my other favorite is the Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity Pack.

I´m looking for:
- lots of possibilities to micromanage (really liked the shipeditor in StarDrive)
- lots of ways the customize my game (be in directly during the game via technology, or as settings at the start of a game, for example the customizable races in StarDrive)
- focus on singleplayer (no interest in multiplayer at all)
- lot of different approaches (be it military, economic or diplomatic power)
- lot of content, I want to play a single match for several weeks (preverably a huge map)
- good mods
- realistic approach (as realistic it can get with space games)

Well, Distant worlds matches almost all this:

- the game is so heavy that every task can be automated (or not) to help the player. Colony taxes, mining stations building, ship design, ground forces recruitment and much more.
The ships can be designed as you like, basically you're piling up the components you want according to what is available with your tech level and what you would like your ship to do.

- you can almost customize everything at game start: size and shape of the galaxy (up to 1400 star systems, REAL star systems, not some arcadish thing with a single planet alone in the dark like in some games), amount of pirates, development level of your opponents, victory conditions, tech levels, tech research speed, availability of colonizable worlds and independant colonies, storylines etc ...

- it is SP only (too complex to really work well in multiplayer anyway)

- about the approaches, well the victory conditions (specific to each race) and the start settings can help having completely different games but IMO there's no real way to win, for exemple with pure diplomacy, without fighting.

- modding isn't very developped for now, it's supposed to be favoured in a forthcoming expansion.

- That's definitively one of the most realistic games I've seen on many subjects. For example the economy is simulated and independent. There's a lot of ressources required for ship/station building, harvested at the colonies or in space using mines, then shipped to where it is needed by private freighters, prices vary according to availability and demand, there can be shortages.
The only things you control about the private sector are the transport ships/mining stations designs and the amounts of taxes.

Well, there's really a lot to say about this game. The best is that you google it and find a few tests, it is very good but it's wise to have a better idea of what it is before investing such price.  ;)

Oh, one more important thing, some Death Stars can be found in this game, you might even build your owns if you're advanced enough and very lucky.  ;D

You are looking for Space Empires V with kind of unofficial patch Captain Kwok's Balance Mod.

It's a complex 4x space game with micromanagement like MOO3 and 3d graphics and low requirements  (game from 2006).
