Rip to the fallen troops of all our allies past and present.
Without them the world wouldn't be what it is today.

RIP to the fallen, it doesnt matter what side they were on, they were soldiers and they did what alot of people couldnt do..

In spirit of such a day, i will be off in an hour or so to Çanakkale, Gallipoli and visit as many Allied/Turkish graves as possible, ill also take some pictures..

Lest we forget...

THEY SHALL GROW NOT OLD
AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM
NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN,
AND IN THE MORNING:
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM.

If you Germans wouldn't mind telling, do you remember Second World War veterans?  I have always been curious, knowing the touchiness of the subject in Germany.

Well, there are a lot of memorials, at least here, the one I posted is in the city center of the next bigger city, and there's one next to our towns church, and many villages have a little one on the cemetary.
But no, world war veterans are not really remembered in a sense of having a special day to do this or something, neither for ww1 or ww2. On things like "50 wars ending of ww2" you would have in our town the mayor, the priest, the local NATO/US airforce commander and some pressmen and little other people laying down a wreath at the memorial, but actually, their is no public remembering of german veterans in television or anything. And doing so would make you suspicious, usually.

I think it's sad. :(

Happy Poppy Day.  Though that sounds more cheerful than it is.
