Individual armour plates didn't even catch on in medieval Europe until the late 13th century, and full suits of plate were not in widespread use until the late 14th - early 15th century. (Yes, that means that most of the Crusades were fought in chainmail, NOT in plate!) But when it rains it pours, so as soon as it started to be possible to produce plate, there was an arms race to produce in it in as large quantities as possible. In the heyday of the plate in the 15th and 16th century, it was common for entire armies to fight in full suits of plate armour, not just the "knights", which didn't even exist anymore as a separate social class because professional armies had already mostly replaced them by that time.

Now, a plate is handy in that it's practically invulnerable to swords. Which is why everyone and their dog started wielding maces, warhammers, and polearms which either caused indirect trauma through armour, penetrated due to heavy weight concentrated on a small point, or simply had enough momentum to not care. Or just used a powerful enough crossbow which did not require the lifelong training of an English longbowman. Of course, the development of firearms soon made full plate obsolete altogheter, so in the late 16th century infantry started getting rid of it, followed by cavalry. By the 17th century mostly only specialized heavy cavalry units used plate (note: professional soldiers, not noblemen playing "knights"), and after 30 Years War had shown light cavalry to be superior, plate armour went the way of the dodo by the 18th century. But in its final death throes, it did become the status symbol of a wealthy individual, without any practical purpose.

But history repeats itself, so nowadays we've got flak jackets, bulletproof vests, etc.

I still have to ask, what was the purpose of changing from full armor to barely none, except iron helmets,if with the beginning of firearms, they were still not very accurate, were very slow and complicated to reload and,for what I've read, didn't replace swords and sabres as primary weapons until early 19th century?

Saw this at another forums some time ago and for the first time I have to say I got interested by something branded "RPG". Even better, one of the devs said it's "Dungeons and no dragons".

BTW,call me an a**hole, but the game is not going to be Assassin's Creed like, right?

And last,I always thought knights indeed used that full solid armo, but only very special classes or high rank noblemen after the 11th century.

Some years ago I've started to try to find all the games I've played a long time ago, mostly Mega Drive and SNES games, but some PC games as well. The list is almost complete. Here are some good old gems from the few bits era:

Binge played this game when as a kid.

Very hard and beautiful game

For years tried to find the name of this one. The image of the generic Berlin Wall being rammed by a tank plus that level music struck in my head since I was a kid!

Played this game at a friend's house once. We both cracked our asses laughing at our players kicking the rival team player's balls. We even managed to get a red card that day,IIRC.

Toilet humour at its best.

Just saw that at the War of Rights forum, haha.

F...me,I'm getting old,I remember playing Finn Wars mod (only SP however,I've found that too late).
Interesting, many former Battlefield mods are now turning into standalone games. Eve of Destruction (EoD Redux),Forgotten Hope (Traction Wars),Project Reality (Squad),and now Finn Wars. Former Trauma Studios members should definitely work on a standalone of the good old Desert Combat...

Just got disappointed with the new UE 4. Expected to be graphically superior to UE 3,but it looks like the same at max. Hope those are very early and not finished models.

I used to play a lot Star Wars Shadows of the Empire. The most characteristic thing of the game were the enemies falling from the cliffs and screaming "AAaaahh!". And the bosses, which were a pain.

Probably BF2 or BF1942. The one I'm 100% sure was Super Smash Bros Melee and Star Wars Rogue Leader.

I was planning to open a thread about the old ones (mid 2005 to late 80s),seems someone was faster than me.  :D

The last cardboard cover game I've had (have, actually),IIRC,was Perfect Dark. I really wish I could have counted the amount of hours I've spent playing it and Goldeneye 007.

Sir,you just dragged me into some very serious nostalgia from 10 years ago, when I frequently asked devs what the hell did happen with a lot of unfinished (and finished) FH vehicles (Me-323,PBY,BMW bike...).

Strange that I've heard shortly before that a bomb was found/suspected to be on the german's team hotel at Paris. I expected the security forces to be ready and aware. Really bad, yesterday Europe looked to be in a good mood, with all those matches happening, now everybody either is mourning their dead or afraid.

But like Torenico said, now everyone can expect a large french reprisal, not on ISIL unfortunately, but rather on argelians, moroccans, tunisians, syrians, maybe senegalese and mosques on Paris.

^ I might have misunderstood you, but doesn't it tell you what the song is in the video description there?
Pop Will Eat Itself - Wise Up Sucker

No,it's not that one. Is the one that plays at the start of the vĂdeo until some 2:45 min.

Well,Argentina lost, and I have no idea why. Also,I expected a match full of kicks...and punches, and grabs, and KOs and red cards. More than Chile x Uruguay, considering the short temper from the argentinian players and the extra-unfairplay the chileans were displaying, specially Vidal.

But at least nuestros hermanos reached the final, instead of losing for Paraguay at the penalties...again.

Not WWII related.

Considering the Roman Empire extended at its peak till the Middle Eastern and heavily influenced many aspects in the western cultures, law and languages, then why at some of its former occupied territories (like Germany and England) the national languages spoken today are not part of the romance-languages family but rather from the germanic family?
