aka the "EA is evil" thread... ;)

The problem is the top end of the industry is currently run by beancounters.

These are the same sort of people who, in Hollywood, are responsible for "reboots" and pumping out shit like the Transformers sequels or The Expendables 2... ::)

They know that countless hordes of brainless morons will happily shell out money for what is essentially the same product, but with a new feature or coat of paint. Ever seen the "Lisa Lionheart" episode of The Simpsons? Exactly.

Put simply: It's all about the almighty dollar.

On a somewhat related note, PCPowerplay magazine does an annual "Top 100 (Reasons why we're PC gamers)". This years top ten:

1. Deus Ex (2000)

2. Minecraft (2011)

3. Civilization IV (2005)

4. Thief Trilogy (1998)

5. Planescape:Torment (1999)

6. DayZ (2012)

7. Portal (2007)

8. FarCry 2 (2008)

9. TES V: Skyrim (2011)

10. STALKER: Call Of Pripyat (2010)

* BF and COD had only one entry each; BF3 in 13th and COD 4:MW in 99th... ;D

I find it amusing that the highest placed modern game (one that's < 3 years old) is an indie game, and the second highest is a mod... :)

Is the long wait finally over?... :o

Los Angeles – August 1, 2012 – The long-awaited goal of virtual reality (VR) for video games came a step closer today as Oculus, a developer of virtual reality technology, launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new headset—the “Oculus Rift.”...

The links tell the story.

The Kickstarter goal was $250,000, a few days in and it's already raked in almost 5 times that.

Rather than throwing money at the screen, I'm seriously thinking about joining the thousands who've thrown $300 at him for the Early Developer Kit (which incl. a working prototype and a copy of Doom 3 BFG).

If Palmer Luckey pulls this off, his legend status is assured.

Gaming / Ubisoft, are Ukidding?
« on: 02-08-2012, 09:08:56 »
What a pile of crap the Uplay platform is.

Not only does it not let you play a game you've just installed without auto-patching it first, but up until a few days ago, it was a major security risk on any system it was installed on...

Quote
...On Monday, Uplay got Ubisoft into no small amount of trouble. Google security engineer Tavis Ormandy found that Uplay installs a browser plug-in on users’ PCs that can be exploited by malicious individuals to launch other applications on your machine. That is to say, if you have the Uplay plug-in installed, a less savory website or business could exploit it to launch apps like Microsoft Outlook that contain sensitive information. The plug-in was thought to be a rootkit, the kind of sneaky unwanted software typically used by spammers...

They quickly rectified it via a patch a few days ago, and claimed it was caused by "a coding error"... ::)

Ubisoft’s blunders this summer demonstrate two things. One: When you trust monolithic corporations with personal information or agree to use their products when connected to the Internet, you are not guaranteed that that information is secure. No matter what. Two: Ubisoft really needs to get its act together.
Amen.

Are there any vehicles in FH1 that serve as mobile spawnpoints (like the halftracks in FH2)?

It's either that, or the Japs have invaded Greece cleverly disguised as the NZ army...

Singleplayer and Coop / Eppeldorf Problems
« on: 25-07-2011, 10:07:40 »
Just a few problems:

 - Mesh problem:
Bots trying to drive through the camp rather than going around it.

- Bad spawnpoint: Bots spawning (and dying) in the barn.

The other problem is, the US bots only spawn at the two spawnpoints inside the ABC zone and at the Farm, which basically means they get their arses kicked every round because the Germans mostly spawn on the frontline.

The only exception is at the start of the round when maybe a third of the team spawns at the Eppeldorf (N&S) flags. Yet to see any bots spawn at the Hill flag.

Singleplayer and Coop / Lebisey-16 Mesh/OOB problem.
« on: 21-07-2011, 09:07:21 »
I don't think anyone's noticed it before, so I thought I might as well mention it.

The problem is the Brits sometimes take the tank out onto the road (see pic), but it's out-of-bounds, so they only get halfway along it before getting punished.

I haven't added it to the tracker due to the pic.

FH2 Help / Support / 2.4 Patch Problem ***SOLVED***
« on: 19-07-2011, 11:07:01 »
Just thought I'd post this for anyone else having trouble after applying multiple patches.

After finally getting my hands on the 2.4 patch (it took all weekend and nearly 5 gig of my DL quota  ::)), I installed 2.2 and patched it up to 2.4, then after all that patching, I defragged the HDD.

Started'er up, tried to load a map (offline), and it blue-screened at 62%... ???

Tried it again (same map), CTD this time.

I try 4 more times with a different map each time, all of them CTD at 62%... :P

It was around this point I found myself in need of a break, because even though I was yet to fire a shot in anger, the fun and excitement of 2.4 was beginning to overwhelm me.

Some time later, I started all over again...

Reinstalled 2.2, patched it to 2.26, then defragged the HDD.

Patched it to 2.3, then tested it. Worked just like a bought one.

Patched it to 2.4, then defragged again.

Start 2.4, start loading a SP map...*holds breath*...IT WORKS!!!  :o

I assuming the problem was after patching 2.2 three times, the files were so fragmented that when I applied the 2.4 patch something important got misplaced or whatever.

I noticed when I defragged it the first time that most of the server.zips were in hundreds of pieces, that's why I tried defragging it halfway through the process the second time around.

Bug Reporting / Trapped on Sidi

I found this trap near the southern flag (on the second floor).

If you stand right next to the wall between the table and the vase, you become trapped and there's no way back out... :(

General Discussion / Huge fix for SP/Coop!
« on: 20-11-2010, 09:11:38 »
G'day boys... :)

Firstly, the fix is actually a mini-mod (called ESAI:FH2) that, put simply, stops the AI commander spam and allows the bots to function they way they should (as far as capping flags goes).

It's a huge improvement to the way SP/Coop plays, and I reckon incorporating it into FH should be a no-brainer...

But there's one small problem:

Hello again everybody,

With all due respect to everyone at this forum...

It's been about a week since my last post, and it seems that this thread has gone cold. At the time of this writing, ESAI:FH2 has been downloaded 40 times, and the pre-patched map set about 30 times.

I'm not looking for a pat on the back here. What I would really love to know is if I have any kind of user base, or if people are merely trying this out and then deleting it.

Or in other words, I've finished up for now what I was doing with the other mod I mentioned and am trying to find out if this project warrants further development, now that I have time.

So to all the lurking ESAI:FH2 users out there (if there are any) - please, post your feedback. Good, bad, whatever.... just tell me something people.

Obviously there's not much point in Void sinking his time and effort into taking this any further if it's only for a handful of people.

Only seven levels are ESAI-supported so far, one of which is Mareth (a map considered by most as a lost cause in SP) and it would be a damn shame if it was left unfinished... :(

So you heard the man, download it and tell him what you think, or it'll be:

Game over man, game over!

You can download ESAI:FH2 here: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=6539.0

More info on what ESAI:FH2 is and what it does (see post #11): http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=12114.0

@the moderators: I posted this here rather than in 'Singleplayer' as it probably sees more traffic and I am trying to drum up enough support to convince Void to keep working on ESAI:FH2.

FH2 Help / Support / Respawn timer in SP **SOLVED**
« on: 11-06-2010, 12:06:02 »
I want to get rid of it, but I can't figure out where the line that controls it is... :-\

The only thing I can find is in the gamelogicinit.con file:
Quote
if c_testing == 1
renderer.drawNametags 0
gameLogic.enableVoHelp 0
sv.spawntime 1
sv.mandowntime 2

sv.numPlayersNeededToStart 1
sv.radioBlockedDurationTime 0
sv.radioMaxSpamFlagCount 10000
sv.radioSpamInterval 1
endIf
It's not what I'm looking for though, as it's the same as the 2.25 file.

Could someone be so kind as to gimme a shove in the right direction?

Looks to me like an issue with spawnpoints.

I loaded up Anctoville to make sure it was working, and the first thing I saw after I clicked on Join was this:

Same thing on Falaise:

I quit shortly after loading both maps, so I don't know what problems this may be causing... :-\

The other 4 maps in the "map pack" don't have it.
