Gaming Rig update
« on: 21-03-2014, 21:03:09 »
So i have finally decided to upgrade my shit PC which i have since 2007 to something that can hopefully run most games for another 7 years.

Budged allocated will be 600 to 650€ max. So far i am planning on buying:

Theseus black midi case (54.90€)
Intel-Core i5 3340(1155,3.1 GHz/6Mb) (164.40€)
MSI-MB H61M-P32/W8 (1155/H61/DDR3) motherboard (69€ he he)
Crucial-Ram DDR3 8GB kit 1600MHz Ballistix Sport XT RAM (78.90€)
Palit-GTX 650Ti 2GB Graphics card (139.90€)

Along with those a new keyboard, mouse, fans and power supply.

All that for around 589.70€.

So any suggestions or fixes ?

Investigate some more MBs, personally I don't like MSI due to some past experiences.

I guess you could switch up 650Ti for a 750Ti, as they are in the same price range, not much of performance difference but it's always a newer piece of kit. OR you're willing to take the less-sure option you could look for a used card, GTX 570/580 or something like that, maybe even a 670. But that means of course you're getting an used product, price/performance is beautiful though.

What's wrong with being greedy on cooling fans? Or do you mean not to cheap-out on them? :D
Also, If you have some spare budget, you can top the rig off with a Cooler Master hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler (30€), even without overclocking the benefits will be big (quieter operation and lower temps=more reliability)
and It will come in handy if you get an upgraded CPU. Make sure if it will fit though, it SHOULD but never know, especially with tall RAM heat sinks.

Getting more RAM would mean doubling the cost for it. Would it be worthy spending 150€ on ram alone?

Also i've read some reviews that say the 750ti has actually worse performance than the 650ti.

Get yourself a coolermaster fan to replace the one that comes stock with the processor, it gave me less 10C and keeps my computer cooler. It is not expensive and it is very easy to install.

Xigmatek Apache Cpu Cooler I got that one for ~15€

The deal has been sent. 629€

I though about it and chipped in to buy a new HDD with 1TB space. Was running out of room to put games in :P . It will bring me to 1.5 TB of space for.... Stuff. GPU i went for Palit GTX 650Ti 2GB. Finally changed the Motherboard for Gigabyte B75M-D3H which has 4(!) DDR3 slots for RAM.

Finally i canceled the keyboard. I will buy one that suits me when i get to the shop.
