I know both the beach and the birthday.  I know Josh knows the birthday also - and if you don't you should hang your head in shame.

Is this going to be a memorial type update?

Ah, of course; 1939 – Winter War: The Soviet Union is expelled from the League of Nations for invading Finland. Damn Soviets ;D

December 14 -
Birthday of King George VI & Gen. Jimmy Doolittle - British & American maps?
Anniversary of the Forty-Seven Ronin - reference to Sword Beach?
Anniversary of "Toledo War" between Ohio and Michigan - Ohio, Michigan, Omaha?

Wild guess: ROAD TO FH2 v2.25

Very good stuff, that map was pretty cool on FHT  ;). Good to see, at least, the panzergrau paint camouflage for Panzers  :D.

Will we have speacial features for Kiwis? (victory/loss sound theme ; voices...) I know they did Haka many time in front of german troops (pictures i saw in a WW2 war museum at Auckland).

Soldiers of the Maori Battalion perform a haka in the Middle East during WWII.

I want to thank all the staff that have been making this mod so incredible. I've spent so many countless hours having fun with FH2 and I'm sure I'll spend many more in years to come.

Also that map look awesome as so does Operation Cobra. I can't wait to play new maps. Keep up the good work!

That Panzergrau colour really strikes fear on the opposing side. All it says: "unfriendly machines". Perhaps that's because i associate them with dire wolf's fur colour.

Anyway awesome contents FH2 devs! Happy birthday! Thank you for bringing fascinating stuff all along these years. I am very happy that no front gets left behind, love to see another Mediterranean battle.

Commenwealth Forces, eat hardy, for tonight we dine in hell!
THIS IS NEW ZEALAND!!!
Did the new zealand will have their flag  and their particuliar hat (lemon squeezer)?
eh hem... I asked for this sort of thing a while back here: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=2006.0 (http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=2006.0) My two favourite quotes:
...A pointy hat surely has at least +3 badass factor for it...
I think i might create some sort of signature with that quote in it.
...Find a battle the New Zealander's fought in as the main force, THEN I'll be all over the lemon squeezer.
von Mudra, that day has come...
On a less smug note, I currently work for New Zealands leading historian on New Zealands involvement in both World Wars, so if there is anything the Dev team needs to know then please feel free to ask and i'll relay said questions to him.

Happy birthday Forgotten Hope 2

Love the map too... Simple and sweet, something tells me its going to play something like Sfakia, except uber-Sfakia, with rolling hills, American-German weapons, bigger tanks and planes!...

Love the map too... Simple and sweet, something tells me its going to play something like Sfakia, except uber-Sfakia, with rolling hills, American-German weapons, bigger tanks and planes!...

Ought to be something... Are there Panzer IIs?

Uh... How can something play as something else if it has totally different style and gameplay elements to it? Its like saying El Alamein plays as Operation Goodwood.

American-German weapons?

Bigger tanks...?

Yes, Panzer 2's are in.

Isn't it with common-wealth weapons versus German... It has hilly aireas and alot of fights seem to take place between forces at different heights from each other

And its early war combat... no fausts, shreks or PIATs... Like Sfakia's older brother, more than like Crete

The gameplay of this map is a crossover between Safkia (hell fight in Kafeteria  ::)) and Crete... with stronger armor.

Is there any "Greek Gods" kit? I imagine the power of thunder against bf-109  ;D

Lovely new map. Will this be a uphill struggle like RtR's Monte Cassino ?

It will be at the monastery flag, but all other flags will be fought over differently. CQC in the town, flanking and storming t the outer flags in the north and the south.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Panzergrau increases your penis size by 150%.

Yes, please stop that, it makes me think naughty stuff about you  8)

Will we have speacial features for Kiwis? (victory/loss sound theme ; voices...) I know they did Haka many time in front of german troops.

I'm not sure, don't keep your hopes up too high, I'd say.

well i can say that the map looks great, plays great, and feels great.
This map kinda like Cobra also have somthing for evryone narrow urban city fights for the infantary, open plains/fields/hills/mountins for the tankers and plaines for those that enjoys the sky. And then in a different setting then Normandy or Africa :-)

Happy Birthday, FH2! And very fitting that today's update returns to FH's roots with an early war map featuring Feldgrau tanks. Lovely stuff. If a Feldgrau PzIII were to turn up at some point I think I'd be forced to make good on my promise to some day make a Fall Gelb map with the Brits and Germans on it... though what is currently available (as of this update) is more than enough to get started. We'll see.

Great reskins of planes, too - they'd also suit a Battle of Britain map (at least as placeholders).

Overall one of my favourite updates in months. Keep it up! (after you've finished celebrating)

Me and my big mouth... ;)

But I'm as good as my word. I hereby promise that I, someone with no mapping experience whatsoever, will at the very least attempt to create a playable map featuring units used in Fall Gelb, 1940. I'll start a mapping thread in a couple of days and hopefully get a few tips (I remember the main ones - start small, stay small, statics are the hardest part etc).

i dont think so
we are missing french stuff, specially vehicles for that one.
sure many british stuff can act as placeholders so custom maps might be possible.

Or just have a map that is german biased so you can have correct vehicles for the allied, such as trucks, bren carriers...
Title: Re: Forgotten Hope News Update: 14th December 2009: Birthday at the Beach
Post by: Meadow on 16-12-2009, 15:12:43
From my knowledge of Fall Gelb, the following vehicles in FH2 right now could be used by the Brits:

Bren Carrier (no allied star, though)
Matilda II
A13 (Cruiser on Bardia)
Bedford OYD
2 lber
Bofors

Also, of course, the British Early North Africa kit setup is perfect for Fall Gelb. Think Bardia, again. The only thing I don't have is early playermodels, but I'm not about to request those for the sake of a fan map. If (and this won't happen) I somehow submit the map to FH2 like Olympus was, and it gets accepted, maybe some will get made. But right now I need to learn to map ;)

Given that there were a large number of solely British v German engagements in 1940, I'm sure I can find something to make a map about.

Believe it or not, you're not far off. Although I believe kilt-wearing in combat was forbidden after the First World War, the top half of those uniforms looks about right. The BEF of 1940, while exceptionally well-trained and equipped (the infantry that is, not the tanks), did not have very different uniforms to the Army of the last war.

Funny you say that about the tanks. I vaguely remember some tanks even arrived in France without guns, those where still being shipped  :P

Anyway, this map made me jump into the air when I first saw the new content it brought. There are so many possibilities now for fan mappers and devs alike.

You have my full support Meadow! Early war maps are goodness. We just need someone to create some early war British tanks with proper skins.

Too bad they don't have the Early war Pz3 with the 37mm, internal mantlet, and 2 coax MGs, that's technically more correct.  Hopefully we'll see those someday soon.

Also, on the discussion of uniforms, yes, the New Zealanders should technically be wearing the brown wool uniforms reminiscent of WW1:

Sure, or the result will be as horrible to play as the FH1 map was in version 0.7 (50mm PzIIIs knocking out B1 and mathildas, whereas allies armors were in trouble to even damage them ...)

Simple. Introduce Flak 18's and do what rommel did.

The British where almost victorious back then, only on the last minute did Rommel figured something out to deal with the Matilda's and Char's

No, he's talking about how FH used the later 50mm Panzer 3s which were nearly non-existent in France, the majority of the tanks being Pz1, Pz2, Pz3 with 37mm, and a smattering of Pz4C/D.  Because of the 50mm, the french CharB1 and Soumas on the map were not as powerful as they should have been.  So he's saying that that only way to have a really good tanker map, that's authentic, for 1940 is to have the weaker german tanks.

But I'm pretty sure that the 50mm PzIII were not nearly, but completly non-existent in France, because their production started around July/August 1940. Even with an ultra fast delivery, the battle was already over.  ;D

Rats? RATS? Dare I say it...?

...probably not...

...but Rats over Moscow brings many fond memories of Raid over Moscow. Getting the damned fighter out of the hangar was probably the toughest stage ;)

Apparently, the devs are playing with us. Which other references this might hide? Rats? As in flying rats? SM.81 Pipistrello, "Bat"? Moscow? As in East... but not necessarily Eastern Front? Eastern Mediterranean? An air-only map? Or.... "Operation Herkules", the planned-but-never-realized invasion of Malta? ???

It leads to a page that says:

"The latest version of Forgotten Hope 2 available is 2.2. You will need to have this version installed if you want to play online. Before installing Forgotten Hope 2, make sure your Battlefield 2 installation is up to date. You will need Battlefield 2 patch 1.5. Forgotten Hope may not work on earlier Battlefield 2 versions."

Answering naoko's question.
