Moooaar Springfield!
« on: 18-08-2011, 18:08:16 »
So, I am starting a new thread because of the M1903A3 Springfield rifle. I am a man that LOVES a good bolt action,(kinda sexual) and one of my biggest fears is to be switched to the American side where I have to play with the kind of boring M1 Garand or the derp gun (M1 Carbine  :-X) So when I started PDH after 2.4 I was so happy when I saw the Springfield as scout kit for the Americans! As expected, shooting with it was a joy.

So, gentlemen, what do ye think of having more maps with this splendid rifle as a scout kit?

Hugs and kisses from me <3

I also would like to see the rifle on more other maps - I instantly had a killing spree, when firing with it the first time. The question is, whether it fits in  historical accurate way to other maps. This rifle is also a reason, why I can't wait for the Pacific, although I know, that we are far away from it atm.

10 Springfield rifle lovers - like this

I also love that rifle, same as the No.4.
Never had any love for the Kar98 though.

It was very uncommon in the european theatre. ranger scouts used it, as well as teh 82nd Airborne as a grenadier weapon. Other than that, mostly artillery units, and they already ahve the enfield rifle in FH2.

Every platoon had one grenadier, many of them retained the springfield because it was much easier to fire riflegrenades and more accurate.

Every platoon had one grenadier

Source? Platoons are anything from 16 to 50 men. To represent that it would take a pickup kit on every map instead of the 1/2 rifle grenades per riflemen we currently have. That would be a mayor balance overhaul I don't think the dev team is eager to make.

many of them retained the springfield because it was much easier to fire riflegrenades and more accurate.

Weasel words. Who means "many"? Even the Rangers seem to have used them only ocasionally, not always, according to the mission at hand.

Right now the Springfield distribution seems right, with the only exception being that it could be used for ammo kits instead of the No4. When the Pacific comes, if it ever does, then revisiting this issue would be warranted for the early battles in that particular theather. In Europe the Springlfield was a reserve weapon, not often used for frontline duties.

The ammo kit have the m1917 enfield not the no4 enfield for the american army.
And yeah, if Fh2 reached the pacific (and I hope that), early battle should have m1917 enfield and m1903 rifle for the rifleman. The m1917 enfield should be limited because IRL it was limited, but it was used IIRC by the USMC and the US army.

Go search it for yourself, but it has been a cpmmon fact that grenadiers, one issued per 16 men, often kept there springfield. even in 1945 some still carried the springfield

It wasn''t all that common, especially with units that were formed after 1941.

I don't want to to efresh the debate, but it fits really good to this topic:

How common was the Stg44 ZF? I think it was not more common, than the Springfield. It could be use like the Stg44 ZF pickup kit. Really rare but still on some more maps.

The StG44zf was never used. It was tested once in a sniper school in 1943 and then they decided against it cause it was impractical.

There is no springfield in the ammo kit, it's a M1917 enfield.
