Really? From such a country I expected that to be allowed. Any reason why it's not allowed yet? Too many religious folks in the government?

Yeah and biggest party (Central party) doesn't support it. And old people are majority and you know the old ones...

I might just change now, since they got a new leader, the prime minister, and she supports gender-neutral marriage and full adoption rights for everyone. Also, the national coalition party (I think they are the largest ATM) support gender-neutral marriage and minister Alexander Stubb of the same party just announced the he (an the party?) supports equal adoption rights.

Anyway, awesome news indeed. Congratulations once again! :)

Edit: And to contribute to the thread: that political banter I just posted and the awesome news from my friend makes me happy ;D

In fact, Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb is the patron of the Helsinki Pride Festival being held this week.
It's half naked people on boats. That's all.
Here in Finland we call that "summer".

Thanks Tolga ;)
In Germany we have 6 non-NCO enlisted ranks ("Mannschaften"), ranging from Schütze (OR-1) to Oberstabsgefreiter (OR-4).
Schütze is recruit and OR-1, while Gefreiter is OR-2 which is Private in the US Army. Obergefreiter and Hauptgefreiter are both OR-3 (Private First Class) while Stabs- and Oberstabsgefreiter are both OR-4.
But there´s a difference between each rank, especially between Obergefreiter and Hauptgefreiter, since you need to be only 6 months in the army for OG but atleast 1 year in order to become HG. Pretty confusing system, compared to others, right? ^^
I´m doing "extended conscription". When I joined conscription was 9 months but you can extend your time up to 23 months, which I did. In order to become NCO you need to enlist for either 8 or 12 years, which is too much for me ^^

In Finland you have to be in army only a year to be NCO (Corporal) or Officer (2nd Lieutenant) (either of them. You just go in different school (for NCO just NCO school, for officer first NCO then Reserve Officer School.)

well i dont know how it is in other countrys but in german army if you already have a profession like cook, engineer, pretty much anything that can be used for army service and you want to be professional soldier you simply start with a higher ranks.
for example i was in a medic company and we had quite a few girls that had medical profession before joining. so we were all in basic training but we still were "privates" while some of them already were NCO's or even Lieutenant. however they singed up for 8-12 years while the others were just basic conscripts doing their 9 months (i think they just lowered it to 6 months ...)

after basic training they would still have to attend to special NCO schools and stuff but they were higher ranking personal right from start with most of the benefits that come with that.

The problem is, what should I do after I leave the army after a 12 year service...

Here you can become officer, too, after two years, but only a reserve officer. But if you do that you can´t benefit from the things concripts have, like free housing, food or train rides between your barracks and hometown.
Die Happy, yeah, I´ve seen quite some "Neckermann-Stuffze", too, but no "Neckermann-Feldwebel" or even Majors so far. ^^

Hmmmm. Confusing, very confusing :D

Here conscripts can only go up through the rank of Onbaşı or Corporal. If you stay after your mandatory service which is 13 months now I believe you can go on contract and be an Uzman Çavuş (Specialist Sergeant)

In order to be Astsubay (NCO) you have to complete tests for it right after high school. In order to be an Officer you have to start taking tests for it starting 8th grade and go to a military high school. They make it pretty hard, as in if your family has any ties to the Islamic world you'll get rejected or if you have any tattoo's or any suspicious scars on your face you'll get rejected..
