General Discussion / Re: A shoutout for the Developers!
« on: 28-02-2016, 01:02:58 »
Third time posting, strange how it keeps disappearing. As I was saying, good release, devs. Finally got what what most of us were waiting for, the Eastern front. I only wish more people were here to enjoy it, I hope standalone is the #1 priority for the next patch.

General Discussion / Re: FH 2.5 First Impressions

So why didn't FH2 go standalone after all? PR has been doing it for a few years now and it did wonders for the accessibility of the mod. I'm trying to get people into FH2 but when they see it requires BF2 they get completely turned off. I can't believe this wasn't made a priority.

I seriously don't know why people make such a drama about the standalone thing. Ofcourse it would be nice, but there are several good reasons why we have not done it. We are well aware of pros and cons.

So the only thing someone has to do to play FH2 is:

1.) Get BF2 from *somewhere allready mentioned* (most up to date version, no patching required) and install it
2.) Get the FH2 launcher, install it and the launcher does the rest for you. No patching no nothing.

I simply don't see a reason why your friends can't do those two steps, when they have a minimum of knowledge of how to use a PC. Over 200 other people had no problem and are enjoying the mod. :)

So that's what this is to you, huh, some drama? Please tell me these several good reasons why it has not been done, other than shortage of time and manpower or some potential conflict with EA that has never arisen and never will.

There are no cons to going standalone. None. It's either standalone, or die. Removing that extra step is what makes the difference between two hundred players and twelve hundred players, as PR found out soon after going standalone. It's not a case of whether someone has the technical knowledge to do both steps, it's a case of why two steps are needed.

It baffles me why going standalone wasn't made a priority when Project Reality has had so much success with it. It's like the devs don't want any new players.

Suggestions / Re: FH2 Standalone (Discussion Only)

I'd say that making FH2 standalone should be the #1 priority for the devs. I'm sure if you asked the PR devs for assistance, they could guide you through the process and we can be on our way to playing with a rejuvenated playerbase.

Agreed with Hendrix. Go the path of PR and go standalone, or die. I'm having lots of fun with the new update.

Seems cute, lots of boom in a small box. I still think most French gear is trash but that's just my opinion, it's a lovely model.

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Windows 10
« on: 03-06-2015, 06:06:59 »
Any older games should work fine with compatibility support. It's basically the same as Windows 8, but with new features like DirectX 12. It also hasn't been released yet, but it's completely free for any Windows 7 and Windows 8 users for a year. I know I'll be upgrading from 7, as I plan to take full advantage of the gaming features it will have.

So a release this Christmas, yes?

BF2's fucked, McCloskey. No more gamespy, no more masterserver, no more logging in without a workaround like PR and FH2.

I was getting worried you wouldn't release in time for the shutdown. That would really kill the mod. Good timing.

762 is a pathetic excuse for a server and I get 200+ ping on there where I'm from (California). As you said, it stays populated for at least two hours, which is not healthy at all. PR servers stay populated all the time.

Of course when I go to sleep after this post, I'll get 20 replies chastising me about how FH2 is not even close to dead and you'll ignore my warnings once again. Quite the shame really.

I would like to chastise you for hijacking this thread.  Please take it elsewhere and don't interfere with our weekly event.
It was a reply to Officer_Dufus's post about "Where is everyone?" Admittedly I took it a bit further but it's also an explanation about why you don't have any players.

FH2 is a completely different game than PR so I don't know how you can just merge the two without completely destroying what each game is about.  FH2 has been "dying" for awhile now.  I see many European players playing the game during the week days and not just limited to weekends.  You can find an active game of FH2 just about any time during the day here in North America as long as you're willing to play with 150+ ping (which is very tolerable)

What would you have the FH2 developers do to get more players besides merging with PR?  In my opinion if there were a way to release as a free to play,  standalone, then there would never be a problem finding people to play.

Sorry buddy, but 150+ ping is not tolerable. I come home from work everyday to find the servers empty. I can't be online at 1PM for the Europeans, it is just not possible.

Like I said on my post on the previous page, you are blind to the evidence that is shown. I've already covered the points you are trying to make, I've heard your argument a million times. Releasing FH2 as free to play is impossible as long as it's a mod for Battlefield 2. You can either merge with PR, or create your own game, which is also what PR is doing, creating PR2.
